Nanoparticles are often used as the lubricating component in such films. Inorganic fullerene-like (IF) nanoparticles of WS 2 have been used in the past for variety of tribological applications including for self-lubricating polymer and metallic films. IF nanoparticles from MoS 2 with superior tribological behavior were reported in the past. However, such nanoparticles, which are available in minute amounts, were not applied for such self-lubricating coatings in the past. In the current work, inorganic fullerene-like nanoparticles of MoS 2 (IF-MoS 2 ) were co-evaporated with titanium (cobalt) on metal substrates. The films were characterized by different techniques and were shown to have good adhesion to the underlying titanium substrate. Furthermore, tribological tests indicated that such coatings exhibit improved friction coefficient (roughly 0.1) and very small wear under relatively high load.

Conventionally, micromirrors and microprobes have been used for this purpose. The dental operating microscope (DOM) has been implemented to enhance visibility during dental procedures. However, the microscope, a sizable tool, remains between operating field and the dental practitioner, making his ability to manipulate more complicated. Also, the interference of the hands and the handpiece with the visualization of the surgical field and inaccurate observation of the endodontic instruments during the procedure. Endoscopy reportedly provides the dentist with excellent vision and ease of use. It also provides a better intraoperative visualization in comparison with micromirrors. Further development of endoscopy made it possible to combine magnification, light, irrigation/suction and surgical microinstruments in one device. This combination could lead to an advanced root canal treatment technique.

The search for new devices and technologies for endodontic procedures always has been challenging. In the past 2 decades, much experience and knowledge has been gained. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the current and possible future clinical applications of lasers in endodontics, including their use in alleviating dentinal hypersensitivity, modification of the dentin structure, pulp diagnosis, pulp capping and pulpotomy, cleaning and shaping of the root canal system, and endodontic surgery. Endodontic procedures for which conventional treatments cannot provide comparable results or are less effective are emphasized.

The existence of 3 distal root canals was a.ssumcd after careful reading of radiographs. Two of the distal root canals were close to one another atid located buccally to the midline. The 3rd was remote, located lingually. The 2 mesial root canals were found in their normal Iocadons. This case demonstrates a rare anatomical configuration, and joins with recent reports in the emphasis ofthe existence of such configurations in mandibular first molars.

Crowns of human teeth were cut and treated with chloroform, xylene, and halothane. Treatment consisted of exposing the specimens for 5 or 15 minutes to the test solvents. Acid-treated and saline-treated specimens served as controls. After each treatment period, the specimens were rinsed, dried, and prepared for Vicker's microhardness analysis. Vicker's microhardness values for each specimen were recorded before and after treatment, and the differences were statistically compared. A statistically significant decrease in enamel and dentin microhardness was found in most solvent-treated groups; the amount of the decrease was directly related to the exposure time. Chloroform, xylene, and halothane may cause a significant softening effect on both enamel and dentin. This softening is already apparent after 5 minutes of treatment.

Forms of structural racism such as residential segregation have recently been associated with PTB. Segregated communities are often disproportionately exposed to police contact. Little is understood about how simply living in a community that experiences disproportionate police contact may impact PTB.

MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 7500 dentists from Israel and FSU states were invited to fill in an online questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted the SA prescribing for endodontic diagnoses and clinical scenarios (post operative pain, post apical surgery and post avulsion). The international guidelines of the European Society of Endodontology and the American Association of Endodontists were used as the standard of correct practice. RESULTS A total of 1310 dentists (response rate of 17.46%, 498 Israeli and 812 FSU dentists) completed the survey. The rates of prescription SA among the Israeli and the FSU respondents for non-recommended diagnoses and clinical scenarios were 24.75% and 11.42% (P>0.05), 16.57% and 16.17% (P>0.05) respectively. The rates of prescription SA among the Israeli and the FSU respondents for recommended diagnoses and clinical scenarios were 63.39% and 62.9% (P>0.05), 27.2% and 13.9% (P>0.05) respectively. CONCLUSIONS There are gaps between the recommended protocols for prescribing SA for patients with various endodontic diagnoses and clinical scenarios and the actual practices among Israeli and FSU dentists. Continuing education of dentists must be encouraged in order to improve SA prescription practice according to international guidelines. CLINICAL RELEVANCE When not indicated, prescription of systemic antibiotics might lead to antimicrobial resistance, while non-prescription, when required, might have negative repercussions on the patient's health. Knowledge of the prescription habits of dentists in the endodontic practice will help prevent harmful situations.

Bacterial contamination of the root canal system is considered the principle etiologic factor for the development of pulpal and periapical lesions. Obtaining a root canal system free of irritants is a major goal of root canal therapy. Biomechanical instrumentation of the root canal system has been suggested to achieve this task. However, because of the complexity of the root canal system, it has been shown that the complete elimination of debris and achievement of a sterile root canal system is very difficult and a smear layer, which covers the instrumented walls of the root canal, is formed. The task of cleaning and disinfecting a root canal system which contains microo...

Serial fecal samples were collected from premature infants with birth weight (BW) ≤ 1800 g, estimated gestational age (EGA) ≤ 32 weeks, and <30 days old prior to initiation of enteral feeding. Nine infants that developed Bell’s Stage ≥ II NEC were matched with control infants based on BW, EGA, day of life (DOL) enteral feeding was initiated and DOL of the first sample. From each subject, five samples matched by DOL collected were analyzed for BA levels and composition. Fifteen individual BA species were measured via LC-MS/MS and total BA levels were measured using the Diazyme Total Bile Acid Assay kit. No statistically significant differences in composition were observed between control and NEC at the level of individual species (p = 0.1133) or grouped BAs (p = 0.0742). However, there was a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000012) in the mean coefficient of variation (CV) betwe...

We investigated both the effectiveness of parenteral to oral treprostinil transition and the characteristics associated with transition failure over a duration of two years. The study included 37 Group I functional class I and II patients with PAH on combination therapy. Patients were excluded if cardiac index ≤2.2 L/min/m, right atrial pressure ≥11 mmHg, or 6-min walk distance ≤250 m. Patients were categorized as successful (Transition) or unsuccessful (Transition) transition based on clinical stability, or a parenteral comparator (Parenteral) if they remained on parenteral therapy (no transition). All patients underwent two right heart catheterizations, one at enrollment and a second post transition. Of 24 total transition patients, 46% were classified as Transition. Transition occurred on av...

However there have been inconsistencies reported in the literature due to the use of different nuclear imaging modalities to test this metric. The primary purpose of this meta-analysis was to determine whether SPECT, MUGA and PET scans demonstrate changes in myocardial perfusion between lased and non-lased subjects and whether laser type affects myocardial perfusion. The secondary purpose was to examine the overall effect of laser therapy on clinical outcomes including survival, hospital re-admission and angina reduction. Sixteen studies were included in the primary endpoint analysis after excluding all other non-imaging TMR papers. Standardized mean difference was used as the effect size for all quantitative outcomes and log odds ratio was used as the effect size for all binary outcomes. Statistically significant improvements in myocardial pe...

Awide range of defects was described including white or yellow enamel opacity, enamel hypoplasia, dilaceration of the crown, root angulation, and arrest of root formation (2, 3, 5). It was also foundthat the younger the child is at the time of injury the more severe is the damage in£icted to the permanent tooth (1). Defects to the permanent incisors occur more oftenas a resultof intrusion of their primarypredecessors followedby avulsion and luxation injuries (1). Accelerated dentine apposition with subsequent pulp canal obliteration (PCO) is a well-known complication in permanent teeth following direct trauma (6,9). It usually occurs following mild luxation injuries to the permanent incisors (6, 10). PCO in a yet unerupted permanent incisor following trauma to its primary predecessor is extremely rare and was reported only twice in surveys (5,11). The purpose of the present article is to describe a case in which trauma to a primary incisor resulted in PCO of its unerupted permanent successor.

Avulsion of a pre-eruptive left permanent maxillary incisor in a 6-year-old boy is presented. The immature tooth was replanted after rinsing with saline following 10 min dry extra-oral time. This case report describes treatment and a 2-year follow-up of the tooth. During the follow-up period, continuation of root development, pulp revascularization, and irregular dentin formation were demonstrated. The tooth is vital, functional, and esthetic. To the best of our knowledge, no such case of replantation of a pre-eruptive tooth has been reported previously.
