Situe sur l'A31, le viaduc de Richemont franchissant la Moselle est, pour le sens sud-nord, u... more Situe sur l'A31, le viaduc de Richemont franchissant la Moselle est, pour le sens sud-nord, une structure de type dalle orthotrope. Cette dalle a rapidement presente une fissuration pathologique au niveau des soudures auget-piece de pont, trop sensibles au phenomene de fatigue. De nombreuses solutions de reparation seront etudiees puis mises en oeuvre mais les fissurations de fatigue se generalisent et s'accelerent dans cette dalle sous-dimensionnee. Devant l'impasse technique, une etude preliminaire puis un projet de remplacement sont engages. Les pistes de solutions sont exposees dans cet article. Compte tenu des nombreuses contraintes, le projet et les travaux de reconstruction se caracterisent, pour minimiser la duree de coupure de l'A31, par l'utilisation performante d'engins speciaux : bigue fluviale et grues de tres fortes capacites.

The bridge carries an 11 m wide highway comprising a 1 m wide footway, a two-lane carriageway 6.5 m wide and a 2.5 m wide cattle track , resulting in eccentric traffic loadings. The total length is 86 m between abutments. The main bridge structure consists of a steel tubular arch with a 56 m span between supports. The parabolic elevation has an approximate radius of 59 m.

The roads represent an important heritage owned by the French Ministry of Transports. Even more t... more The roads represent an important heritage owned by the French Ministry of Transports. Even more than corrosion, the fatigue is the principal aging process that affects the durability of steel bridges. Several examples illustrate in the article the importance of affecting a right consideration to the fatigue design of bridges. Details that may appear as accessory to most of the usual bridge designers may be in fact of a crucial importance. It is in particular the case of the welded joints. The fillet joints are much more sensible to the fatigue stresses and should be avoided when there is a doubt, because their evaluation is very complicated. If the designer of a bridge uses such attachment, he has to verify the relevance regarding fatigue before calling for tender because the time for such studies is generally not available during the execution studies. Calculation FEM techniques are used to evaluate the stress concentration factor that has to be taken into account for the fatigue design. For bridges, many fatigue details are classified in the Eurocode 3 (part 9) from tests. But some details that cannot be found in the Eurocode, and can however be studied and evaluated by computation. Several examples of tied arch bridges are presented. The article presents also an example where the fatigue class of the detail regarding longitudinal stresses is evaluated thanks to a FE-modelization according to the 2008 IIW Fatigue Recommendations at the location of the attachment of a hanger. Crack in a similar fillet weld of the attachment of the stiffener of a box girder bridge is presented to illustrate that fatigue may really cause severe trouble. Le SÉTRA a développé deux solutions économiques pour atteindre l'objectif d'éviter la pile centrale. La solution mise en œuvre à Ko Wé Kara en Nouvelle-Calédonie est l'arc autoancré métalliques avec des dispositions constructives innovantes et économiques. Un autre solution possible est le portique en ossature mixte acier-béton. Le programme de recherche européen PRECOBEAM a permis de réaliser des projets pilotes et mettre au point un nouveau système de connexion qui abaisse le coût de ce type de structure. Plusieurs projets exemplaires, tant en Nouvelle-Calédonie qu'en Europe sont décrits en détails. Ce type de pont fait partie des ponts intégrés et l'article délivre des recommandations pour la conception et la réalisation de ce type de pont.

Un T découpé au milieu de l'âme d'un profilé d'acier en H est par exemple mis en œuvre dans la membrure inférieure d'une poutre en béton. Ce T peut aussi être obtenu en assemblant des tôles soudées. La membrure supérieure de la poutre reste en béton armé préfabriqué. La géométrie particulière de la découpe qui pénètre dans le béton armé assure la connexion. La forme de la découpe a été testée à l'état limite de service, et aux états limites de résistance et de fatigue en vue d'une application dans le domaine des ponts. Ce concept s'est avéré très compétitif pour les petits ponts. Différentes solutions sont présentées : réalisées au cours des dernières années dans plusieurs pays européens, elles démontrent l'intérêt du procédé.

They are characterized by a high initial stiffness, bearing capacity and ductility. With their use, new and economic constructions have been invented, e.g. the VFT-WIB construction. This construction method is based on a rolled steel beam cut longitudinally, with a special shape, in two T-sections and a concrete top chord is concreted. The shape of the cut hereby allows for the shear transmission in the shear joint. In general prefabricated bridge elements are produced which are finalized on site. They are placed on the abutments and the residual superstructure is supplemented. This paper introduces the static and fatigue design of continuous shear connections used for the VFT-WIB construction method; however the focus is on the steel design.
