Ten seedlings of each genotype were further evaluated to detect seminal root number, average coleoptiles length, total seminal root length. Coleoptile length is related to maximum seeding depth. Significant differences in coleoptile length were noted between cultivars, most wheat landraces had a coleoptile length between Hourani 27 and Hourani Nawawi, 8.5 cm and 6.8 cm, respectively. Two cultivars (Deir Alla 6 and Ammon) had a coleoptile length shorter than 6 cm. Significant differences in the total roots length were noted between wheat landraces and cultivars. Both Hourani 27 landraces and Cham1 showed the highest values of total roots length, 78cm and 66.3cm, respectively. Differences in coleoptiles length, seminal roots number and total roots length observed should be exploited by breeders to improve tolerance of wheat to deep seeding to avoid drought periods.

Peganum harmala is an essential medicinal plant with high value of phytochemicals as well it has fertility potential in sheep. It is considered as an indicator for climate change particularly at the arid regions. This research was carried out to investigate the plant species diversity of desert area at four sites representing different habitats within Ma'an governorate southern part of Jordan via comparison biodiversity indices. Quadrat-transect method was randomly used to determine the density, richness, dominance and evenness indices under selected sites. Results of plant species list showed 23 taxa recorded. Peganum harmala registered the high density value (0.667) during the year 2013 at Adruh site, while high frequency value (0.800) was found at Ma'an site. The year 2013 showed high plant diversity compared to 2014. During 2013 and 2014 Wadimusa recorded the high Shannon's index 1.998 and 1.488, respectively compared to the other sites. Two medicinal plants were recorded during this study namely Achillea fragrantissima and Artemisia herba alba used as antidiabetic disease in the folk medicine. Studying the desert biodiversity is a crucial for evaluate the health of rangeland ecosystems.

Genetic variations and chemical compositions among and within the population of Artemisia herba-alba Asso. were studied in Jordan using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Four regions, namely Al-Shoubak, Al-Tafileh, Madaba and Al-Mafraq, were selected to study the variability among collected populations. Based on the presence of Artemisia herba-alba species, three monitoring areas were selected within the four regions in 2009. For RAPD molecular analysis purposes, five DNA samples were used per each population to study the genetic variability among and within A. herba-alba populations. Four primers were used based on the RAPD technique, which revealed a total number of 930 bands among which 117 are polymorphic. High polymorphism among studied popula...

The activation effects of heavy metals Co 2+ , Fe 3+ and Pb 2+ have performed a noncompetitive inhibition on the enzyme activity in the crude extract of Eruca sativa. In contrast, Cd 2+ , Ni + and Cu 2+ have an uncompetitive inhibition for the two selected plants. Furthermore, Fe 3+ , Al 3+ , Pb 2+ and Mo 2+ were found to be acted as noncompetitive inhibitors on the enzyme activity in the crude extract of Rosmarinus officinalis. Presence of heavy metals altered the enzyme activity by acting as uncompetitive or noncompetitive inhibitors depending on the type of heavy metals.
