In this regard, we propose an INS/Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) navigation system that is based on a FUZZY adaptive Extended Kalman filtering estimation. We have tested our proposed scheme using real experimental data that are obtained from low-cost instruments. Our results showed that the proposed scheme has achieved a better accuracy when compared with the state-of-art extended Kalman filter (EKF) navigation.

Flexible distribution of energy and storage resources (FDERS) is a proposed new framework for reliably regulating the quickly varying loads supplied by a network of multiple smaller-rated distributed energy resources (DERs), especially when power from the main grid is not available. In this experiment, the PAMA system has a structure that mimics the antagonistic muscles in the human body. The hysteresis loop is characterized using various magnitudes of applied voltage while considering an external load force. The experimental results show that increasing the load force causes a shift in the hysteresis loop and a decrease in maximum displacement. Finally, to model the measured hysteresis loop under different loads, the Hyperbolic-based Prandtl-Ishlinskii model (HPI) with a force-dependent weight function is proposed. The modeling results demonstrate the proposed HPI's ability to characterize the hysteresis loop of the PAMA systems under load effect.

Although this pandemic has placed a technical and financial burden on academic institutions to facilitate the successful transition to online learning, it provides opportunities to understand the impacts of adopting new policies and strategies to improve the efficient utilization of resources and thus reduce operational costs. The detailed analyses of the changes in energy consumption can support assessing the potential savings in electricity bills with the wide-scale adoption of online learning methods in the future as a business as usual to improve and modernize the education systems. This paper provides a detailed analysis of the electrical energy consumption of the buildings within the campus of the University of Jordan. The diversity of bui...

Three types of wind generators, namely Types 1, 3, and 4, along with a microgrid are simulated in both islanded and grid-connected modes using MATLAB/Simulink software. The fault current contribution and voltage at the PCC during the fault have been recorded for each type of the generators. The simulations results demonstrate that the characteristics of the fault current contribution of each type of wind generators vary from one type to another. The variation in fault current characteristics reveal that a careful design of the protection schemes that protect the system should be considered, and special requirements on fault ride through capabilities should be taken into account. Adequate protection techniques and schemes that suits each type of wind generator in both islanded and grid-connected modes must be proposed.

Three types of wind generators are simulated within a microgrid that has the ability to connect and disconnect to a main grid. Types 1, 3, and 4 wind generators are simulated in both connected and islanded modes using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. The attributes of the current and voltage waveforms for each type at the time of the fault are detected. The simulation results show that each type of the wind generators contribute to the fault current in a way differs from the other type due to its configuration. The attributes of the fault characteristics reveals that careful design of the protection schemes that protect the system should be considered and special requirements on fault ride through capabilities are needed. Adequate protection scheme that suit the three types of the wind generators are proposed for islanded and gridconnected modes.

Most Li-ion batteries for motive, vehicular, backup power and utility energy storage applications are fitted with a microprocessor-controlled thermal management system including an array of temperature and voltage sensors and an active cooling system. However, as the complexity of the thermal management system increases, so does its weight, volume and parasitic power consumption, all factors that adversely affect the vehicle’s performance. In this sense, an improved thermal management system based on including passive solutions such as phase change materials or heat spreading technologies could decrease the load on active components and ultimately the weight and costs of the system. This paper describes an experimental and simulation study aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of flexible graphite materials for heat spreaders in battery thermal management systems. A comme...

This monitoring can be frequent (several times per week) or continuous. Recent studies showed that such monitoring can reduce residential energy consumption by as much as 15%. The development of energy management systems in the monitoring systems and intelligent energy meters have been going for a while. In this paper, we will present a new electricity monitoring device called “E-ring”. E-ring is a non-invasive tool mainly made from a current transformer clamp meter that clamps to the main electricity cables of the user’s home and measures the electrical consumption and sends the measured data to an online server and then makes it accessible from the user’s mobile phone using a specially-developed mobile application. It has many advantages such as low data rate, low price, and real-time access to the consumption data and simultaneously calculate the estimated price for the household/industrial electricity bill with a tolerance of around 2%.

The control system is based on the parameterization of lead compensator using the genetic algorithm (GA) optimization method. A performance criterion including the information of overshoot, rise time, settling time, and steady-state error is proposed as the objective function. The linear DC motor is modeled using Simscape toolbox in MATLAB/Simulink platform. The simulation shows that the results successfully demonstrate the effectiveness and good dynamic performance of the proposed two-loop control system under specific constraints and various test conditions. In addition, the results show that the adopted method can perform an efficient search for the optimal parameters of the used controller.

Reducing environmental impacts and getting economic benefits, based on the waste utilization, and... more Reducing environmental impacts and getting economic benefits, based on the waste utilization, and on the reduction of both energy consumption and organic load, was the driver of the implementation of cleaner production assessment in a poultry industry and its related processes. The main objective of this study is to examine the feasibility of using poultry litter as a source of energy to cover the heating demand of Poultry Company’s slaughterhouse. Poultry litter enters the cooking stage to produce the fat-oil for the fuel burning stage. The results showed that the critical price of poultry litter is 46.7 JOD per ton, below which it becomes feasible to utilize this waste as a source of energy. However, the daily monetary saving was found to be strongly affected by the prices of both poultry litter and diesel. Another revenue can be generated from the fertilizer value of the poultry waste-to-energy ash. However, this depends on several technical and market factors that need further c...

The strength of the ANFIS-based controller lies in the fact that it integrates the principles of neural networks and fuzzy logic, and hence, it has the potential of capturing the benefits of both in a single framework. The ANFIS-based controller is kinematic-based, and thus a forward kinematic model of the mobile robot is constructed. The effectiveness of the proposed ANFIS-based controller is evaluated in a nonlinear simulation environment. Simulation results showed that the ANFIS-based controller indeed outperformed a well-tuned nonlinear sliding mode controller.

This limitation will form an obstacle in expanding towards full dependence on the clean available resource of electricity in Jordan. Battery electricity storage system (BESS) can be a solution for this limitation, and which has been studied to allow storing more electricity from new renewable energy sources, such as PV, to be supplied on demand. This paper evaluates different battery technologies using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Modelling Software) simulation software, which allows comparing different available battery technologies to different technical specifications from an economic point of view. The essential primary outcome of the simulation is the cost of the electricity stored in each battery technology that can be used to optimize the battery storage system size for each type of battery. When designing a lead compensator, the parameters of the compensator are considered as an optimization problem which aims at getting the required time and frequency specifications. This paper presents a comparison between lead compensators designed by nature-inspired algorithms against those designed by conventional algorithms for various types of systems. The nature-inspired algorithms considered in this paper are the genetic algorithm (GA), which is built on the concept of natural selection process which imitates biological evolution, and the particle swarm optimization (PSO), which is stimulated by social behavior of fish schooling or bird flocking. In this paper, two different examples are considered to demonstrate the comparison between the design methods. The simulation results of these examples show that the nature-inspired algorithms provided better trans...

ABSTRACT A novel control strategy to intelligently regulate load sharing in vehicle-to-grid (V2G)... more ABSTRACT A novel control strategy to intelligently regulate load sharing in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems is proposed in this paper. It is based on sharing the load demand between the vehicles based on the state-of-health (SoH) of their batteries. The strategy employs an on-board smart device that computes the battery aging, and this device communicates with the smart grid controller when the vehicle is connected to the microgrid. This paper also presents the algorithm for determining the share factor, and the implementation details of the control strategy.
