Usability Evaluation of Digital Libraries in Tehran Public Universities

For a sustainable development and greater success, digital libraries need to be evaluated at diff... more For a sustainable development and greater success, digital libraries need to be evaluated at different time points. Usability study is a type of digital library evaluation.The aim of this study is identifying the usability of digital libraries in Tehran's public universities i.e. Sharif, Amirkabir and Tehran universities. Evaluative Survey methodology was used for the survey applying measures of search, navigation, forms layout, contrast and scan ability, optimization, help, usage of windows and speed and errors through a questionnaire containing 36 questions. The research population included 124,800 undergraduate, Master and PhD students, from three governmental universities of Sharif, Amirkabir and Tehran. Stratified random sampling method was applied to select 378 students as a sample which are 130 people in Tehran, Amirkabir 125 people and Sharif 123 people. For data analysis, SPSS software was used along with descriptive techniques as well as independent test and ANOVA where needed.The findings indicated that the criteria relating to the usability of digital libraries in the three Tehran governmental universities evaluated to be in relatively good condition and there is no significant difference between the digital libraries for the usability criteria. The results of this study suggest that according to the usability of digital library design creates more willingly resort to this type of user to visit the library and the realization of the objectives of the parent organization provides.

Background and aim: Nowadays, research is considered as a basic infrastructure for development of... more Background and aim: Nowadays, research is considered as a basic infrastructure for development of countries. The aim of this study was to determine the contribution of Iranian scientific production in the field of sport sciences in the Middle East, Asia and world. Material and methods: In this scientometric study, data were collected from Scimago and Scopus databases. The research population included all papers indexed in the databases in the field of sport sciences from 1996 to 2015. The extracted data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS. Findings: Results showed from1996 to 2015, Iran indexed 723 scientific degrees in the Scopus, which put Iran at the rank of 32nd, 7th and 3th in the world, Asia and Middle East, respectively. Of all documented papers, there were 6556 articles cited, of which 911 were self-citations. This study aimed at determining the qualitative and quantitative growth of scientific production in the field of sport sciences. Material and methods: This research was a Scientometric study which analyzed the indexed scientific papers in Iran from 1994 to 17 March 2013 in the field of Sport Sciences by using qualitative and quantitative indices of (ISI) database. Data capture source, ISI base and 302 samples of recorded degrees in Iran were investigated in above years. The data were analyzed by Excel software. Findings: Results showed that the Iranian researchers published 302 degrees in this base from 1994 to 17 March 2013, which were referable in 1515 cases up to now and the h index in this scientific field was estimated 20.
