Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have great potential to promote sustainability and shape future generations’ skills, knowledge, thinking, and actions. Addressing environmental, social, and economic pillars, education for sustainable development (ESD), or education for sustainability (EfS), is a catalyst for quality education towards a sustainable future. This paper aims to analyze the state of the art and prevailing trends in the scientific literature pertaining to ESD/EfS. In this regard, specific objectives were established to identify the following: (1) authors’ productivity over time; (2) countries’ contribution and collaboration; (3) the most relevant keywords; and (4) the most prominent themes—in terms of relevance and degree of development. To fulfill the research objectives, quantitative research employing bibliometric analysis was carried out in...

The purpose of this paper is to examine different aspects and approaches regarding sustainability, sustainable development, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the context of business education. The research is based on a literature review, on the experience gained as a result of our participation in various projects and international activities regarding the above-mentioned concepts, and on the results of several qualitative and quantitative marketing researches developed by the authors. Based on these findings we are underlining the fact that the concepts related to CSR and its components are not well known by managers of companies and public institutions and we also point out the fact that the respondents that have knowledge and skills in this field, have acquired most of them outside the formal education system. Furthermore, the paper contributes to the discussion needed to take place in order to understand that universities should make important steps not only for reorienting curriculum, developing programs, and modules, but also in implementing innovative teaching methods in order to integrate such topics in their educational programs.

These data can be efficiently processed and analyzed by intelligent techniques and algorithms to generate useful insights into the students’ performance, such as to identify the factors impacting the progress of successful students or the performance of the students who are struggling in their courses and are at risk of failing. Such a framework is scarce in the current literature. This study proposes an interpretable framework to generate useful insights from the data produced by e-learning platforms using machine learning algorithms. The proposed framework incorporates predictive models, as well as regression and classification models to analyze multiple factors of student performance. Classification models are used to systematize normal and at-risk students bas...

The need for sudden, unplanned and unprepared changes revealed serious problems related to the phenomenon of digitalization of education. This paper is based on qualitative research, which allowed describing in detail the many aspects related to the quality of the eLearning process in terms of the main stakeholders directly and indirectly involved. Root cause analysis, addressed by the authors in this paper, as part of a larger project that aims to continuously improve online teaching and learning in the "Nicolae B?lcescu" Land Forces Academy in Sibiu, allowed identifying and understanding the causes and sub-causes. In order to visualize them as user-friendly as possible, we used the facilities of the MindManager program. Following the analysis, a more complete picture of what happened in the eLearning process in the context of COVID-19 pandemic was obtained. The information collected through the qualitative research, based on the tools highlighted in the paper, allowed identifying best practices and lessons learned, which would later be shared internally - within the Academy - and externally - with partners. The paper ends with a series of solutions that can contribute to the continuous improvement of eLearning. Consequently, the changes also give rise to concerns for at least an acceptable solution to the management of the main changes that occurred in the situation prior to the occurrence of the disruptive events. In this context, the onset of the pandemic crisis puts organizations in front of a fragile reality (relative to the stability of the normal state of functionality of society), fully characterized by volatility, insecurity, complexity and ambiguity. In the search for ideas to improve resilience, there are no predetermined solutions, any method that has registered results in a certain organizational field becoming a candidate of good practice. In this framework, it is proposed the comparative investigation (civilian-military) of ICT practices, as a macro agent of change, used in the field of organizational management during the current pandemic crisis. The approach is based, for each of the two mentioned organizational categories, both on theoretical aspects with hypothetical value identified or derived from the specialized literature specific or complementary to the field in question, and on identified practices. We considered this approach useful because there are enough arguments that the military organization has been a model of organizational-managerial development, which finds wide applicability for business continuity management situations, applicable to civilian organizations. Final expectations are directed, based on data existing so far, towards the identification of flexible and adaptable solutions, with the value of good practice. 1 Functional coordinates of the ICT field in contemporary society The term ICT is one that knows obvious conceptual dynamic, imposing essential transformations in all fields of society, some ways of definition highlighting different components and characteristic processes as follows:

In times of budget constraints and unprecedented global competitive pressures, the European Union's policies on employment and the competencies that contribute to shaping the transition to a green, intelligent and innovative economy should be a priority. The development of continuous vocational training that meets the requirements of the labour market and of a knowledge-based economy requires relevant information on the evolution of jobs and professions, the labour market's evolution tendencies, the companies' needs for competencies and qualifications, the level of correlation between the demand and offer of labour force and identifying the gaps, the offer from the training programmes providers and their suitability to the applicants' requirements. From this perspective, this paper aims to reflect the opinions ...

The integration of the importance of sustainable development and of how a sustainable society can be built in the process of university education finally leads to the development of the entrepreneurial spirit. Accepting the changes generated by the transformation into “sustainable higher education institutions” in the university environment is influenced by internal and external factors. Because we have to make decisions every day, more important or less important decisions that lead our lives in a certain direction, in both cases being necessary to choose between several courses of action. The decision is part of our lives and making the optimal decision is important, whether it comes from managers or from regular individuals. An organizational environment characterized by insecurity, frequent and sudden changes has a negative impact on the management of an organization. Under these circumstances, the reaction to these changes, instabilities materialize in quick, correct decisions that induce organizational stability. The main objective of the article is to analyze the decision-making process within the organizations that constitute the private environment in Sibiu. The question that the article wants to answer is: the expertise (knowledge, theories, methods) of managers in decision making sufficient or does this new context require an adaptation,...

Nowadays, organisations and their leaders are facing unprecedented pressures from both internal and external forces. Furthermore, there is a growing interest in understanding and managing issues related to sustainability. In these circumstances, organisations, regardless of their field of activity, have to implement responsible ways of doing business. Most CSR research focuses primarily on external areas: marketplace, environment, community, and external stakeholders: customers, suppliers, investors, government. Knowledge and digital economy and the fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) greatly influence human capital. Today, there is fierce competition in attracting and retaining the best employees – as critical stakeholders. Recruiting, developing, utilising and retaining a talented workforce has become a critical success factor. In this context, it is crucial to explore t...

The ability to transform the information technology in a threat or an opportunity, in a challenge or an impediment, greatly depends on the managers ’ professional training in the field of IT. In order to find out the usage level of the tools provided by IT and to point out the managers ’ attitude towards these, a survey was realized. By analyzing the results we can notice that the marks obtained by managers for the knowledge in the computer science field are rather unsatisfactory. Taking into consideration the fact that in the new age the information technology will be available in all industries and in all activities, enterprises should focus more on training the users – managers and employees.
