St. John's Wort has been widely used for treatment of several biological ailments, including depression. This paper focuses solely on the relationship between medicinal properties of St. John's Wort and its effectiveness as a treatment for depression. There have been many studies in US and Europe aimed at establishing the effectiveness of St. John's Wort as a natural remedy for depression. The results of these studies are mixed. While some individuals may experience relief from depression by taking St. John' Wort many do not.

Despite all advances in the science and art of anesthesia and surgery, Pos-Anesthesia Nausea and ... more Despite all advances in the science and art of anesthesia and surgery, Pos-Anesthesia Nausea and Vomiting (PANV) continues to be a common problem with an average incidence rate of 20-30%. 1 Most patients express concern about PANV and are more worried about it than they are about postoperative pain. These patients readily are willing to pay more for their anesthesia care in order to avoid this discomforting experience. PANV has a very low morbidity rate, however, it has been linked to aspiration pneumonitis, suture wound dehiscence, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and hematoma formation in the surgical sites. Additionally, patients may experience delayed discharge from the surgical facility, prolonged nursing care, and unanticipated hospital admission leading to significant increase in health care costs.2-4The dentist anesthesiologist is at the forefront of ambulatory anesthesia care and must be familiar with the pathophysiology, pharmacological, non-pharmacological management, and preventive measures pertaining to PANV.

General practitioners working in emergency departments often face unique challenges when caring for patients presenting with sign and symptoms of obscure or rare medical conditions. In this case report, I discuss specific strategies for early recognition and management of one such rare neurological condition-- Opsoclonus-myoclonus Ataxia Syndrome.

There are about three-dozen BZD derivatives that are also available on the market. These drugs have been implicated in sudden and unexplained deaths especially when co-ingested with alcohol. Interpretation of forensic postmortem toxicological data can be very difficult and should be done with a thorough knowledge of the case history, including autopsy results, reports from the scene, and available medical history. Experienced forensic toxicologists rely on their own case experience as well as the unique circumstances of each case under examination. Even armed with detailed toxicological data, it is still difficult to pinpoint the cause of death when multiple agents are ingested at the same time.

In cases where hospitals adopted a bar code tracking system to ensure proper identification of specimens moving from bedside to the laboratory, the error rates were reduced from 108 to just 8. It is therefore concluded that adoption of bar code tracking system is an effective strategy for reducing error rate when sample specimen are collected at the bedside and transmitted to the laboratory. In this literature review, we propose to explore the use of bar code technology as and alternative method to reduce mislabeling of patients' specimen. Although the focus group assembled to explored the risk assessment issues surrounding the mislabeled labeled specimen did not, we believe based on the review of the existing literature that bar code technology is the only method that provide the most patient safety.
