A basic relaying system comprise of a three node network having a source, a relay and a destination. In this paper we investigate the outage performance of such system when the relay is having multiple receive antennas and operates in decode and forward mode. In particular, we study the outage performance of Switch and Stay Combining (SSC) scheme in the context of a multi-antenna relay and compare its performance with SC and MRC. SSC, because of its simplicity of implementation is an attractive scheme when the destination is a single antenna tiny wireless node. Effect of relay position and number of antennas on the relay have also been investigated.

It concentrates on physical layer issues, with the anticipation that any higher level overhead will be negligible compared to the gains. The type of cooperation focused on , is the cooperation of active users, i.e., users who have information of their own to send and thus do not want to simply be another user's relay. Cooperative relaying is an effective technique to combat multipath fading, improve system capacity and enhance the coverage. Initially, capacity analysis of Gaussian relay channel was comprehensively studied in [6]. For network scenario, capacity has been analyzed in [7]. Coding strategies that exploit node cooperation has been developed in [8] for relay networks. Outage probability of multi-hop amplify and forward relay system has been analyzed in [9]. In [10], closed form expressions of average bit error rate, amount of fading and outage probability have been derived for Rayleighfading channel where relay works in non-regenerative mode and destination performs equal gain combining. An overview of various cooperation schemes and issues related to their implementation has been discussed in [11]. Various power allocation strategies for non-generative relay network have been studied in [12]. In [13], closed form expressions of outage probability and bit error rate (BER) for binary phase shift keying (BPSK) are derived for the case where communication between source and destination is supported by multi antenna relay and both relay and destination perform maximum ratio combining (MRC) of signals in Rayleigh fading channel. Outage probability and average error rate of two-hop multi antenna relay based system for the case when relay performs selection combining (SC) of signals and destination performs MRC of signals are analyzed in [14] and [15], respectively. Closed form expressions of BER have been established in [16] for two-hop multi antenna cooperative relay network in Rayleigh fading channel. Here, destination performs selection combining of signals received from source, relay and relay performs selection or MRC combining of signal. In [17], analytical expressions of average received SNR, outage BER and channel capacity has been established for the case when source and relay are communicating with multi-antenna destination in Rayleigh fading channel. Closed form expression of outage probability has been derived in [18]; here, communication between source and destination is supported by two multi-antenna relay nodes.

Closed form expressions of average capacity and end-to-end received signal-to-noise ratio for such system are derived for Rayleigh fading channels. Here, relay and destination may perform either maximum ratio combining or selection combining of the signals. The effect of relay position and number of relay antennas in various path-loss conditions have been studied for all four combinations of combining schemes. The investigations reported in this study are expected to be useful in design of multi-antenna cooperative relay system.

This is a newly emerged area which has a lot of potential to support high data rate communication. Such wireless network operates in hostile environment where signal quality effected due to the presence of scatters in between communication link and they is responsible for the phenomena of shadowing and path-loss. Besides it, quality of signal also effected from multi-path fading phenomena, here constructive and destructive combining of signals occur at the receiver. It is quite challenging for the receiver to recover the original message correctly in presence of additive and multiplicative noise. Hence, for such type of network, a unified approach is required to attract researchers and resolved various unaddressed issues till now. In this paper, two-hop regenerative parallel relay network is studied and establish a closed form expression of outage probability for Nakagami-m channel. Integrity of derived expression is also crosschecked with the help of Monte Carlo simulation.

In this letter, we investigate the performance of an infrastructure based multi-antenna relay network in the absence of a direct link. A closed form expression of outage probability has been derived, when the cooperating relays and destination coherently combine the received signals. The effect of number of relay antennas and relay placement on the system performance have also been studied. We derive the mathematical expression for detection probability of single cooperative relay system over Rayleigh fading channel. Relay and fusion centre may perform either selection combining or maximal ratio combining of the signals. Effect of number of relay antennas for all four combinations of combining schemes has been analysed and as expected, increase in relay diversity improves the sensing performance. This is because, on installing more number of receiving antennas on the relay, it's participation increases, so the detection performance also improves. In the non-cooperative system also, the performance improves on increasing the diversity order but on the other hand, this increment imposes burden on the fusion centre. Whereas in multi-antenna cooperative relay system, the burden of relay gets transferred on relay node and the fusion centre takes advantage of increased diversity order of relay. For cooperative spectrum sensing, we have used soft decision combining scheme in which secondary users send their test statistics calculated from their local observations.

The diversity can be achieved through user cooperation, where mobile users share their physical resources to create a virtual array of relays, which eliminates the necessity of multiple-antenna on wireless terminal. In this paper outage performance of multi-hop relay link in Rician fading channel has been analyzed. Decode and forward (DF) protocol has been used for serial relay communication. Keywords-Cooperative communication, decode and forward, multi-hop relay, Rician fading, virtual array.

The performance metrics such as outage and bit error rate (BER) of α-μ distribution for maximal ratio combining (MRC), equal gain combining (EGC), selection combining (SC) and switch and stay combining (SSC) is evaluated analytically and by simulation. Analytical and simulation results are discussed in this paper.
