Background Timely initiation of breastfeeding is feeding of breast milk within one hour of birth,... more Background Timely initiation of breastfeeding is feeding of breast milk within one hour of birth, however, three in five babies were not breastfed in the first hour of birth globally. There is evidence that cesarean section is the major constraint for this low prevalence, but the impact of cesarean section on timely initiation of breastfeeding in Ethiopia is limited. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to provide evidence for policy makers, health professionals and program implementers. Methods This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. Electronic bibliographic databases such as PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINHAL, Scopus, Google Scholar, Science Direct and Cochrane Library were used to search relevant studies and was conducted up to February 2021. Random effects model meta-analysis was applied to estimate the pooled impact of cesarean section on timely initiation of breastfeeding with 95% confidence interv...

Predicting how land use/cover (LUC) changes affect regions and the society requires a good understanding of the dynamic human-environment interactions associated with land use change. This article addresses the future spatial distribution of land use and the impacts that ongoing LUC change have on the ecosystems of Gedeo-Abaya landscape. The actual LUC maps of 2000 and 2015 reference years together with natural and socioeconomic indicators were used in a combined Markov–CA model with GIS technology to simulate and forecast the changes in 2025 and 2035. Our prediction processes shows among the indicators used, distance to the nearest road and slope have more significant effects on the transition potential maps followed by elevation. Area based prediction change generally shows significant increase in agroforestry, cultivation land, and wetland/marshes LUC classes, while most natural vegetation classes, particularly woodland/shrubland (−29.8%), and grazing land (−5.7%) show significant reduction from 2015 to 2035. The present and forecasted trend of LUC changes has visible environmental and socioeconomic impacts, particularly on woodland ecosystems and on the well-being of (agro)pastoral communities in the downstream. Whilst, the betterment of the upstream study region strongly depends on the continuity with the current government landscape restoration policy as well as on the permanence of farmers current environmental friendly land management practices. Forecasting LUC changes in the study landscape offers the possibility that unwanted changes are prevented through proper and timely interventions.

Rainwater harvesting could be an optional water source to fulfill or support the emergency water demand in areas where there is abundant rainfall. The study aimed to assess the rainwater harvesting potential and storage requirements for households and selected institutions and to determine its adequacy to satisfy the emergency water demand for the prevention of COVID-19 in Dilla town, Southern Ethiopia. Rainwater harvesting potential for households and selected institutions were quantified using 17 years’ worth of rainfall data from the Ethiopian Meteorology Agency. To address the rainfall variability, we computed the confidence limits of monthly harvest-able rainwater potential using confidence intervals about the mean as well as confidence intervals using Coefficient of Variation (COV) of monthly rainfall. The storage requirements were also estimated by considering the driest and west seasons and months. The average annual rainfall in Dilla town was 1464 mm. Households with a roof area of 40 m2 and 100 m2 have the potential to harvest 7.2-39.66 m3 and 19.11-105.35 m3 of rainwater respectively. Similarly, the rainwater harvesting potential for the selected institutions was in the range of 34524.5-190374.5m3, 4070.8-14964.8 m3, 1140.4-6288.6 m3, 4561.7-25154.3 m3, 5605.8-14152.8 m3, and 402.4-2219.1 m3 of rainwater for colleges, vocational schools, secondary schools, primary schools, Dilla University Referral Hospital and health centers respectively. These institutional rainwater harvesting potentials can address, 24-132.2, 222.4 -817.8, 59.4-327.3, 34.6-190.9, 94.5-238.5, and 28.2-155.7 % of the colleges, vocational schools, secondary schools, primary schools, Dilla University referral hospital, and Rainwater can be an alternative water source for the town in the fight against COVID-19. Further applied researches must be conducted that can address the rainwater quality and treatment for ease of use.

However, there is no concrete evidence about the impact of being of the female gender for household head on the prevalence of food insecurity at the national level, the authors' intention being to fill this gap. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol (PRISMA-P) guideline was followed. All major databases such as PubMed/ MEDLINE, WHOLIS, Cochrane Library, Embase, PsycINFO, ScienceDirect, Web of science, and reference lists were used to identify published articles, whereas shelves, author contact, Google, and Google Scholar were also searched to identify unpublished studies. Joanna Briggs Institute Meta-Analysis of Statistical Assessment and Review Instrument (JBI-MAStARI) was used for critical appraisal of studies. Metaanalysis was conducted using the STATA software version 14. The random effect model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of food insecurity at 95% confidence level, while subgroup analysis and meta-regression were employed to identify the possible source of heterogeneity and the associated factors respectively. Moreover, Begg's test was used to check publication bias. Results: A total of 143 articles were identified, of which 15 studies were included in the final model with a total sample size of 2084 female-headed households. The pooled estimate of food insecurity among female-headed households was 66.11% (95% confidence level (CL) 54.61, 77.60). Female-headed households had 1.94 (95% CL 1.26, 3.01) times the odds of developing food insecurity as compared with maleheaded households in Ethiopia. However, considerable heterogeneity across studies was also exhibited (I 2 = 92.5%, p value < 0.001).
