This paper examines the main influences that have shaped the evolution of psychoanalysis in the United States and their impact on modern orientations, namely relational schools, neuroscientific approaches and attachment theories. The paper also discusses how the questioning “though legitimate” of the phallocentric definition of sexuality in classical psychoanalysis has led American psychoanalysis to a simplification of its object and to a reinforcement of its tendencies towards adaptation.

It first of all summarises the characteristic positions of the intersubjective school and then presents a number of uses of the notions of empathy in American psychoanalysis. It particularly underlines the fact that the concept of empathy refers both to a mode of knowledge and an attitude favouring the analytic relation. It then examines how this concept enters the relational and creativist theories of the intersubjectivists and questions the weakening of the notion of subjectivity resulting from the occultation of the correlative otherness of the unconscious
L’article traite des apports de la psychodynamique du travail a la psychanalyse, plus particulier... more L’article traite des apports de la psychodynamique du travail a la psychanalyse, plus particulierement a la metapsychologie, a la pratique psychanalytique et a la pensee de l’emancipation. Parmi les apports de la pdt a la metapsychologie, l’article souligne les contributions a la theorie du moi et a la topique du clivage. Sur les apports a la pratique psychanalytique, il insiste notamment sur l’usage clinique de l’ecoute du travail et sur la conception de la psychopathologie qui en decoule. Il met aussi l’accent sur la pratique de la psychanalyse en tant qu’activite de travail. Enfin, l’article souligne les apports de la pdt a la pensee de l’emancipation, telle que celle-ci s’inscrit dans la visee de la psychanalyse, en insistant sur la conception du sujet imputable, fondement de toute revendication d’autonomie.
