The problem in this research was lack of students' confidence to play the role and the lack o... more The problem in this research was lack of students' confidence to play the role and the lack of experience of students in the experience of literature which resulted in the ability to appreciate the role play was still not satisfied. One way to tackle the problem was using the role playing method. The research method used was experiment. The population of this research was the fourth semester students of Bahasa Indonesia and Literature Education Program. Research data were obtained through practice test technique. The results showed that there was influence of role playing method on role playing ability in accordance with drama script written by students.

The background of this research was curriculum policy on the essence of integrating character val... more The background of this research was curriculum policy on the essence of integrating character values into instruction, teacher's difficulties in character education, and the results of previous research in instructional materials in using character values on receiving and responding stages. There is still lack of varieties of instructional materials applied in English instruction. The purpose of the studies was to develop reading materials integrating character values on English subject matter which were valid, practical, and effective. This developmental research used ADDIE procedures consisting of five stages; analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The data were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative approach. The results showed that; (1) the reading materials developed were very valid, in terms of content, constructs, and language. (2) the reading materials developed were very practically used by teachers and learners as well, (3) the reading materials developed were effective in improving the learners activity and achievement. Besides, they are also effective in implanting the character values: honest, disciplinary, cooperative, hardworking, responsible, and caring.

This study was a descriptive study. There were observation sheet, questioner, and interview guide used in this study. The finding showed that first the English teachers at State Islamic Secondary School 1 Malang use visual media in their instructional process. Second, the English teachers use flash cards, charts, pictures, and real objects because they were easily available. Third, those visual media used by the English teachers as means for attracting the students’ attentions, giving the students spirit to ask questions, and helping the teachers explain the materials. Fourth, all the students have positive attitudes towards the used of visual media in the instructional process because they can understand the materials better and were not bored during the instructional process. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam menulis descriptive text, masalah... more Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam menulis descriptive text, masalah-masalah lexicogrammar yang dihadapi siswa dalam menulis descriptive text dan penyebab masalah tersebut. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA SMA N 1 Batipuh. Instrumen yang digunakan sebagai alat pengumpul data adalah tes menulis dan wawancara. Data kuantitatif diperoleh dari tes menulis yang dilaksanakan di kelas. Data kualitatif diperoleh dari wawancara yang dilakukan terhadap siswa dan guru bahasa Inggris. Data kuantitatif dan kualitatif tersebut dikelompokkan berdasarkan indikatornya masing-masing. Hasil dari analisis data kuantitatif dan kualitatif diinterpretasikan dan menjadi temuan penelitian.
