We present a proposal to physics education by using ham radio as a motivational theme. We adopt the theories of meaningful learning, by David Ausubel, and social interaction, by Lev Vygotsky. The project, the assembling of a ham radio station for educational purposes, particularly in physics, was applied in the second half of 2010, with voluntary participation of high school students from Colégio Militar de Porto Alegre, in the form of extracurricular education at the opposite turn of their regular classes. It is presented a report of the experience and its outcomes, as well as a guide for the teacher interested to replicate a similar educational experience.
