Curriculum Design within a Semantic Information System

In this way, data transformation in a semantic consistent way is supported and query formulation is facilitated in the process; an ontology-based description model is also proposed to give expression and organisation of curriculum information.

An evaluation of accessibility of e-learning for dyslexic students

As a result of the widespread, and accelerating, dissemination of digital technologies, there has been a profound effect on how people learn. In particular, the rapid spread of the Internet and infusion of reasonably priced personal computers into homes and schools have brought the learner with direct access to multi-media content and communication. Since these technologies are continually and rapidly evolving, their use has become a challenge both to the teacher and the learner. This also has brought forward a need to measure their effects in the educational process in a more systematic way. This research will focus on the use of technology on education and how technology impacts the educational process especially for students with dyslexia.

Representing time in a support environment for the management ofhospital patients

A central component of the system is a knowledge base containing static knowledge, medical and organisational, and dynamical knowledge of patient records. The event calculus is considered as a way of reasoning about the time-dependent aspects of this knowledge. The event calculus represents change by adding the descriptions of new events (occurring at particular though not necessarily specified times) to the knowledge base which, therefore, comprises an historical record of changes in the domain model. This contrasts with an approach to updating which keeps the contents of a database in conformity with the current state of the domain model, reference to time being implicit through the time of the updates. Such databases may store temporal information and extract or impose specialised temporal relations, but cannot provide general temporal reasoning. The m...

General methods attempt to describe the managerial activities which surround the modelling itself. Specific methods, on the other hand, tend to concentrate on the details of a particular notational approach. This paper attempts to address the needs of the modeller at the detailed level without prescribing a specific notation. This is achieved by describing categories of modelling activities which we believe the modeller should undertake within process modelling, and suggesting how notations may be used within these categories.

ITs have helped businesses to look for new competing ways in persuading their customers. Social media (SM) are considered one of these technologies and there have been successful existing practical examples in the literature about its effectiveness in business. SM have given SMEs an opportunity to create a global customer base in a cost effective manner which was not possible in other business model. The main aim of this research was to investigate how SMEs can benefit from SM. Although there are many IT adoption models but there are very few which focuses on SM alone. According to our knowledge there is none which focuses on SM adoption by SMEs until the Before, Process and After (BPA) framework has been proposed (Abeysinghe & Alsobhi 2013). This research also aimed to critically review of existing frameworks.

One way in which they do this is by adopting and using Information Technology. Information Technology is always evolving and as a result newer tools and concepts continually spring up promising to provide value to organizations. Social media is one of these technologies and there has been extensive coverage of its usefulness in the literature. However, despite the success stories shared, many organizations still fail to reap its benefits after they adopt it. One of the reasons for this is that some organizations might just be unprepared for social media. This paper looks into how organizations can assess their readiness to adopt social media by looking at the factors organizations need to consider prior to adopting social media. Based on these factors a framework was developed to assess the readiness of organizations to adopt social media for competitive...
