The work highlights the actors of these dramatic events and shows the influence of domestic and foreign factors on the mentioned processes. It is emphasized that the first confrontation between Russian Bolshevism and Western-type democracy took place in the Caucasus, which ended with the defeat of the latter. Based on the critical analysis of rich primary sources, emigrant press, and the records of eyewitnesses, the paper explains the reasons for the victory of Russian Bol-shevism, on the one hand, and, of the defeat of the independent democratic states of the Caucasus, on the other hand, the importance of the unification of the Caucasus to achieve common Caucasian goals is hig...

The research object includes the epistolary legacy of the 19th-century Georgian poet and public figure, the General of the Russian Army, Grigol Orbeliani, and that of the 20thcentury Georgian historian, founder and Rector of Tbilisi State University, Ivane Javakhishvili. They both were members of the Georgian society, on extremely different sides, owing to their beliefs and worldviews: the former was an active participant in the creation of the totalitarian regime and represented the foothold of Russian authority in fulfilling the forcible policy in the Caucasus, and the latter was a victim of the totalitarian regime; by keeping the national values, worldviews, and personal freedom, he opposed authority. As a result, he became an object of persecution and insult. The comparative analysis of t...

It reviews publications such as Chveni Drosha (Our Flag), Tavisuphali Sakartvelo (Free Georgia), Bedi Kartlisa (Destiny of Kartli) and others, which became cultural-intellectual and national islands beyond ideological frontiers. After the occupation of Georgia, the efforts of emigrants focused on generating an information war against the Soviet occupation. The emigrants living in Paris were especially active in this regard. The newspapers and magazines were mainly issued in Georgian, but also in English, French, and German. Special attention is paid to the historical, literary and scientific journal Bedi Kartlisa (Revue de Kartvélologie), founded in Paris, in 1948, by Nino Salia. The journal brought together Kartvelologists living abroad, and played an important role in promoting Georgian history...

As a result of migration Tsovatushs were appeared in Georgian language environment. There were all the conditions for shifting Tsovatush language onto its dominated Georgian one. Just migration became the reason for starting language shift, which was resulted by the fact that at present the mentioned language is considered as endangered. The work names the essence of migration and gives its description due to the parameters such as: place, time, motivation, socio-cultural factors. The issue of migration is described on the bases of archival documents and historical or sociolinguistic literature and the nature of migration is revealed according to the mentioned parameters in case of Tsovatushs. After the research it was found out that we deal with short-distance, internal, long-lasting, massive, compulsory migrations from the village to the village, the linguistic result of which is the shift of Tsovatush language onto dominated Georgian one. The migration of the population from the mountain to the valley was enclosed with the illness caused from foreign climate conditions, which somehow decreased the number of speakers of the language.

The article shows the importance of the Black Sea countries in maintaining overall European stability and in this context the role of historical science. On the backdrop of the ideological confrontation between Georgian historians being inside and outside the Iron Curtain, which began with the foundation of the Soviet Union, the research sheds light on the merit of the Georgian scholars-in-exile for both popularization of the Georgian culture and science...

We witness how the world’s political and economic map is changing and technical-scientific progress is tangible. In the conditions of the accelerated global processes, a general political, economic and cultural area is being formed, and a new world order is being formed with its difficulties, social catastrophes or cataclysms, conflicts, divergence and integration. At this time, it is of utmost importance to analyze historical problems from the past and seek ways to resolve them in the political relations of the South Caucasus, as in their attitude towards the outside world, understanding that unity is a necessary ...
