The findings are: the samples were smaller than the recommended standard; from the variables compared, only the thickness and strength parameters were significant in influencing the price of the commodity being studied; the strength of the samples were lower than the minimum specified strength of 2.07MPa; no significant difference between and among the sizes, strengths and distance of the quarry site from the place of production exist; CHBs are more frequently sold on delivery mode; and strength and price have significant relationship. A linear mathematical model, Y =3.836+0.748fc’+0.92t was developed to calculate the price of concrete hollow blocks resulting from a regression analysis, where: Y is the delivery price of the CHB, fc’ is the compres...

It aimed to characterize the area, pedestrians and level of service of intersections; analyze the perceptions of respondents on the necessity, acceptability and impact of the one-way scheme and test the relationships between perceptions and attributes of the respondents. It is recommended that the city government of Vigan should enact a “No loading ” policy and minimal time for unloading of passengers and a “Give way to Pedestrians ” policy for maximum safety. It is suggested that the traffic enforcers should strictly implement traffic rules, laws, and regulations found in the Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the Philippines. The City government should adopt some environmentally sustainable transport strategies in the pursuit of a sustainable development of the city of Vigan without sacrificing its legacy as a world heritage site.

It further tried to discover the socio-economic benefits they provided to the residents of adjacent and nearby barangays within the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, and Pangasinan; and solicited their perceptions on the pressing effect(s) of the industry. Four types of quarrying were found in Ilocos Sur, namely: clay extraction at Bulala, Vigan City; gravel quarrying at Banaoang, Bantay, and at Bio Tagudin; sand quarrying at Namruangan, Cabugao and at Libtong, Tagudin; and mountain quarrying at Nalvo, Sta. Maria. The quarry sites mentioned were described to be from excessive to highly excessive. In Ilocos Norte, the researchers noted three types of quarrying: clay extraction at Sta. Monica, San Nicolas; sand quarrying at Paoay; and gravel extractions at Bengcag, Barangays IV and XV, Laoag City, as wel...

There were three samples for each of the source of aggregates for the mechanical tests using the Universal Testing Machine. The compressive strength of cylinder concrete is below the allowable compressive ultimate strength set by the ASTM which is 3252 psi for 41- day old sample and 3186 psi for 37 days specimen. For the concrete hollow block samples, the compressive strength was above the allowable value set by the Philippine Trade Standard Specification of 350 psi. The flexural stress was above the 15 percent of 3000 psi which is 525 psi. Based on the findings the F-value of the different mechanical test is very much below the tabular F-value of 7.71 at 5 percent level of significance. With these findings, the researcher recommends that the physical test should be conducted to determine the cleanliness of the earth material and the other physical properti...

This was established as an alternative to motorized transportation among Bigueños. This paper focuses on the characterization of the traffic condition of the city and it reveals findings of the explorative study conducted relative to the linkages and trips of pedestrians (origin-destination). A user perception survey was administered to street users to determine their personal and travel characteristics. The level of acceptance of safety rules in crossing a street or intersection was found to be Very High; the impression of the residents of Vigan City towards pedestrianization is High. The findings of this study suggest that walking practices in a city declared as a world heritage site are meaningful in the context of preserving the culture and values of Bigueños. The city government of Vigan should encourage the use of non-motorized vehicles and eliminate conflict among pedestr...

Current traffic conditions are characterized and the Vigan Master Plan’s transportation and traffic components are discussed thoroughly. Schemes consistent with the preservation of the city’s heritage were examined, and suitable programs were recommended for implementation. The public transportation system is assessed in the light of environmental concerns pertaining to emissions and noise. The role of institutions like the local government and the academe (i.e., University of Northern Philippines) is also discussed especially in the formulation and implementation of traffic management schemes. Such is required to come up with effective traffic programs that would ensure sustainability of growth for Vigan without sacrificing its

It aimed to characterize the technical and financial aspects of the project utilizing the Ilocano traditional construction materials that are available in the locality. The utilization of tropical Bamboo as a sustainable source encourages industrialization and increases employment opportunities within the locality. The research design is descriptive and qualitative. The researchers formulated a textual presentation of the engineering and architectural designs of the project. The project is an elementary school building with a dimension of seven by nine meters. The project was designed using raw materials available within the locality. The estimated project cost which is P185, 018.62 is lesser than a seven by nine meters reinforced concrete building with an estimated cost amounting to P945, 000.00. The project promotes and supports research and development with the view of improving ef...

The information revealed in this research is based on the perspectives of the local officials of the 23 cities or 23.46 % of the 98 cities in the Philippines excluding the 14 cities of Metro Manila. Most of the city respondents are thickly populated. Majority of them are first class cities wherein there is a yearly increase in the number of registered motor vehicles. The level of necessity and level of attainment of objectives for traffic signalization are Very High and High, respectively. Some of the LGUs have not installed traffic signals because of budget constraints. They tap the expertise of the Traffic Engineering Center (TEC), Traffic Engineering and Management (TEAM), and the academe (e.g. National Center for Transportation Studies) for the conduct of traffic engineering studies. TEC warrant is the most frequently used criterion considering...
