Focusing on the different ways in which Pavese and Calvino address themes that interested them bo... more Focusing on the different ways in which Pavese and Calvino address themes that interested them both – the motif of the primitive, narrations of origins, the ways in which the merger/distance dialectics can be handled affectively in human relations – this article shows how both writers intuitively engaged with issues concerning mental functioning and development - issues that in the context of psychoanalysis were to be conceptualised only long after Freud, and by analysts neither Pavese nor Calvino were familiar with (Racamier, Bion, and Klein in particular). Through a series of textual comparisons, I will also show how Calvino kept reflecting about Pavese's suicide for decades after the event. In this connection, I will also show that Calvino implicitly associated Pavese's suicide with problems involving a key function of the mind: the dispositif that Racamier was to call subsequently «primal mourning».

Abstract L’articolo mostra come il progressivo emergere della città nell’opera del primo Palazzes... more Abstract L’articolo mostra come il progressivo emergere della città nell’opera del primo Palazzeschi sia interessante non solo in virtù del suo intrinseco legame con temi tradizionalmente urbani — in primis l’affermazione del capitalismo industriale e della società di massa — ma anche e soprattutto per la sua profonda implicazione nel graduale definirsi di due cardini della poetica palazzeschiana: la rappresentazione della soggettività e la riflessione sul valore e sul ruolo della poesia. Alle diverse tappe di un avvicinamento a dir poco timido alla città corrispondono infatti non solo il lento e laborioso appropriarsi di una soggettività poetica inizialmente irreperibile (e il conseguente suo insediamento all’interno di uno spazio fisico), ma anche l’affiorare di riflessioni sempre più esplicite e consapevoli sulla poesia intesa come tramite tra l’io e la socialità.

Then the authors exemplify an analytic attitude and possible interventions. This illustrates the attitude of the authors: ''According to our opinion it is the quality of the psychoanalytic space that is decisive for whether the initiated process can be called psychoanalytic' ' (p. 69). The suggested definition of the psychoanalytic space is as follows: ''The psychoanalytic space is constituted by the sum of the psychological qualities that activate, focus, enlarge and maintain the patient's transference to the therapist'' (p. 86). In the chapter about the therapist's interventions there is a short passage about interpretation of dreams. The authors clearly state that they do not give dreams a special place when listening and see the material in the same way as anything else, where the meaning and importance are decided by the actual clinical situation. Then follow two clinical examples. Part Three, 'Theory about Change' describes curative factors in a psychoanalytic tradition and in a short chapter how to validate psychoanalytic processes by the narrative of the patient and by an in-depth interview. The Epilogue ends with the following dictum: ''The narrative of life is inscribed in the form' ' (p. 233). The whole book is rooted in clinical work, the daily relation to the patient, to the analyst and the relation between them. Underteksten can be recommended for the experienced therapist who wants to be challenged by new ways of thinking about classical psychoanalytic thought as well as for the student who wants to understand and experience the spirit of psychoanalytic therapy and how long-term treatment in depth works. The book is written in nuanced and accurate language and is well supplied with a table of contents, references, name index and index. Since its publication the book has been translated into Danish and has found a place in the curriculum in different psychotherapeutic trainings.

1979) si colloca agli estremi di una parabola creativa durata quasi settant'anni: 1 tra gli esord... more 1979) si colloca agli estremi di una parabola creativa durata quasi settant'anni: 1 tra gli esordi giovanili e il ritorno ai versi della vecchiaia Moretti fu infatti per lungo tempo impegnato, al sorprendente ritmo di quasi un libro all'anno, a dar corso a una sterminata produzione narrativa di varia ispirazione ed esiti diseguali. In questo articolo verrà presa in esame la fase iniziale e certo più nota della carriera di Moretti, quella di poeta legato al gruppo dei crepuscolari: in particolare si analizzerà, nelle diverse raccolte pubblicate fino alla vigilia della prima guerra mondiale, la complessa rete di implicazioni che lega la rappresentazione della città a quella della madre, un rapporto che si carica di significati ulteriori se osservato nella più ampia prospettiva della rappresentazione dello spazio e dell'ideologia poetica. L'indagine metterà in luce la natura contrastiva della relazione tra madre e città, elementi che simbolizzano l'opposizione tra due ordini di associazioni. Il primo, di marca femminile e materna, comprende tra gli altri lo spazio domestico, la sicurezza, l'infanzia e le fantasie onnipotenti ad essa connaturate; il secondo si concentra invece su una mascolinità interpretata prevalentemente in chiave negativa, e collega lo spazio urbano a contesti caratterizzati da esposizione al pericolo, violenza, e sostanziale incapacità comunicativa ed emotiva. Le scelte e la struttura di questo intervento sono determinate da una particolare idea del campo, degli oggetti di studio, e delle potenzialità della critica tematica: il rapporto di un autore con una particolare rappresentazione, o con una famiglia di rappresentazioni, offre anzitutto un utile punto d'appoggio per procedere ad una più completa mappatura del suo sistema di rapporti con altri oggetti letterari e con i processi di simbolizzazione ad essi riferiti. In questa ricerca, ad esempio, la scelta iniziale dell'immagine della città come oggetto di analisi ha reso necessaria, per evitare esiti descrittivi epistemologicamente infruttuosi, una più ampia indagine sulla poetica dello spazio di Moretti, sui rapporti di quest'ultima con il tema della madre e infine sulla stessa metarappresentazione dell'attività letteraria. La seconda considerazione riguarda il ruolo della storia: l'accusa più spesso e talora giustamente rivolta alla critica tematica, quella di vincolare opere e autori
