Climate change and geopolitical risks call for the rapid transformation of the European electrici... more Climate change and geopolitical risks call for the rapid transformation of the European electricity system. Wind and solar are the lowest cost and risk, and the cleanest energy sources, but their variability poses integration challenges. Combining both technologies and integrating regions with dissimilar generation patterns optimizes the trade-off between maximizing capacity factor and minimizing output variability, which respectively give the lowest levelized cost and lowest integration cost. We apply the Markovitz mean-variance framework to a rich multi-decade dataset of wind and solar productivity to quantify the potential benefits of spatially integrating variable renewable resources across European countries at hourly, daily and monthly timescales. We find that optimizing the shares of wind and solar installed capacities in an integrated EUwide electricity system can increase capacity factor by 21.6% while reducing its hourly variability by 25.6%. This framework could enable policymakers to factor system-wide impliciations into investment roadmaps, rather than solely considering each project in isolation. This would help speed the clean energy transition by reducing the system-wide cost of electricity systems with predominantly variable renewable generation.

The concept of scientific dissemination is based on the conjunction of two objectives, that of spreading or disseminating something among the population and presenting it in a way that is accessible and intelligible to the receiving agent. Sharing the different analyses and proposals based on current events therefore enhances the value of the university's research work and positions it as an entity of knowledge that facilitates the understanding of reality. The proposed experience consists of the valorisation of the line of research in energy economics developed at the UDC through scientific dissemination referring to the war context derived from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Wind power has considerable potential to decarbonise electricity systems due to its low cost and ... more Wind power has considerable potential to decarbonise electricity systems due to its low cost and wide availability. However, wind variability limits its penetration. We propose a simple analytical framework to optimise the trade-off between achieving the maximum possible capacity factor (and thus minimum possible levelised cost) with the minimum possible variability (and thus integration costs). This framework is flexible enough to allow for near-optimal analysis, integration of demand, and consideration of additional decision criteria without additional modelling. We find that the intercontinental interconnection between China, Europe and the US with optimised capacity shares across regions could provide a firm generation profile with a capacity factor within the range 15%-40% for 99% of the time. Smaller-scale configurations corresponding to already existing electricity markets can also provide more certain and reliable generation profiles than individual regions in autarky.

Sen embargo a responsabilidade é compartida, xa que é a/o estudante quen debe demostrar a súa capacitación en competencias propias do saber das disciplinas estudadas. Neste contexto os autores propoñen o emprego da metodoloxía da "Aprendizaxe Baseada en Proxectos (ABPy)" como a máis acaída para desenvolver o TFG titulado Análise de produtos bancarios dende unha perspectiva financeira e ofertado na Facultade de Economía e Empresa (UDC) para un grupo máximo de 4 estudantes no curso 2017-18. O problema dinamizador é propio do mundo real e da práctica profesional dun egresado do Grao en ADE/Economía: analizar o impacto que ten no custo para o cliente dunha entidade financeira os cambios nas variables que afectan ao mesmo dentro do contexto da transparencia das operacións e protección da clientela. Os resultados acadados son moi satisfactorios tanto para o alumnado como para os docentes. A metodoloxía é a acaída para este TFG, co que se ofrece unha entrada titorizada na práctica profesional financeira.

The detection by the teaching staff of the existence of very diverse previous academic realities among the students, allowed to turn this element into a dynamic axis of the teaching-learning process. In order to convey this reality, the active methodology of the case study was used. The subject is planned so that each classroom session has a case study from which to develop the different contents. The case is proposed by a different expert from the different companies in the sector, which are related to the Master from the practices. The teaching-learning context gains in motivation. This study assessess the efficiency of European Energy Policy from a Modern Portfolio Theory perspective. The proposal studies the disaggregated European power portfolio: to make a more exhaustive analysis, focusing individually on each European country along the period 1990-2015. The idea is to put the students in contact with the subjects "Corporal expression and curricular adaptations" of the Degree in Primary Education and "Analysis of Financial Operations" of the Degree in Business Administration and Management. O nivel de atención e de asimilación dos conceptos da materia Análise das Operacións Financeiras ... more O nivel de atención e de asimilación dos conceptos da materia Análise das Operacións Financeiras impartida na Facultade de Economía e Empresa da UDC non son satisfactorios. A proposta reside nun cambio metodolóxico a través da combinación da aula invertida, da aprendizaxe baseada en proxectos (ABPy) e o traballo cooperativo. Búscase unha maior asimilación da materia a través do desenvolvemento de habilidades metacognitivas derivadas das estratexias das metodoloxías activas propostas. O cuadrimestre dividirase en dúas partes: Nas primeiras catro semanas do curso o docente explica e propón exercicios sobre os conceptos básicos da materia (capital financeiro, tipos de xuro, leis de capitalización e desconto, concepto de renda e préstamo). Preténdese provocar a participación activa, motivada e crítica na aula a través do emprego de accións publicitarias (anuncios). Nas seguintes dez semanas procédese a crear cinco grupos cooperativos. Estes deben: (1) afondar nos conceptos teórico-prácticos da materia, (2) elaborar un mapa conceptual e exercicios dixitais, ademais de (3) crear un vídeo didáctico da materia. Cada grupo vai subindo os materias creados ao google classroom, o que permite o control de actividade. A avaliación establécese por competencias. ¿O cambio? Radical, apaixoante e motivador.

This paper deals with the problem of defining efficient portfolios of electricity production asse... more This paper deals with the problem of defining efficient portfolios of electricity production assets using the Portfolio Theory, that is to say, by applying the return-risk analysis not to a single asset (e.g. a power station, a wind farm, a combined cycle gas plant), but to the set of technologies operating in a territory at a definite time. First of all, we study to what extent this methodological approach can be implemented to solve the problem of defining efficient sets of power production technologies, considering the fact that the Portfolio Theory was initially proposed in the field of financial investment. We focus on the main concepts of this framework (return, risk and diversification) and its uses in the energy mix context. Second, the evolution of the Spanish generation mix during the ten year period 2001-2010 is analysed according to two different variables: capacity and produced energy. Furthermore, we pay attention to the Spanish Government 2020 energy planning and compare it with several scenarios suggested using different patterns observed during 2001-2010 period. Finally, the most important conclusions are drawn and some lines of future research are proposed.

La Universidad esta llamada a preparar a sus estudiantes para que estos desempenen un papel activ... more La Universidad esta llamada a preparar a sus estudiantes para que estos desempenen un papel activo en la sociedad, mediante el desarrollo de sus capacidades y habilidades. Para ello la Universidad tiene a su alcance la disposicion de multiples recursos (humanos y tecnicos) que pueden facilitar la tarea del desarrollo de aquellas herramientas personales que faciliten la insercion laboral y el desarrollo integral de su alumnado. La transformacion que experimenta el papel de profesor y alumno dentro del Espacio Europeo de Ensenanza Superior (EEES) es sustancial. Sin duda, uno de esos cambios afecta a la funcion tutorial en la universidad. El Plan de Accion Tutorial (PAT) en la Facultad de Economia y Empresa (FEE) de la Universidad de A Coruna (UDC) tiene entre sus objetivos facilitar un aprendizaje activo y cubrir las necesidades de su alumnado mediante un acompanamiento formativo transversal que pueda complementar la formacion oficial y especifica de sus Grados universitarios. Para ello, en nuestra facultad se ha desarrollado un PAT con dos pilares fundamentes. Por un lado, un sistema de mentoria basado en el intercambio interpersonal tutor-alumno (mentoring) orientado a mejorar el proceso de integracion del alumno en la vida universitaria. Por otro lado, un "Servicio de Formacion y Recursos (SFR)" que nace para ofrecer al alumnado cursos y actividades formativas de caracter basico y transversal en habilidades y recursos que facilitan, ademas de su futura insercion laboral, el desarrollo de su formacion academica y personal en la Facultad.

Las asociaciones juveniles no lucrativas tienen como principal factor de produccion el trabajo de... more Las asociaciones juveniles no lucrativas tienen como principal factor de produccion el trabajo de sus voluntarios. La sostenibilidad y permanencia del equipo de voluntarios se ve favorecida por el apoyo social brindado por la asociacion receptora. Sin embargo los recursos de que dispone la entidad son limitados, por lo que se hace necesario establecer un modelo que permita una clasificacion de los voluntarios. Los criterios a tener en cuenta para esta evaluacion responderan a la mision, vision y valores de la asociacion. El AHP -Analytic Hierarchy Process- es un modelo util, simple, comprensible y con el que es posible la jerarquizacion y descomposicion del problema. El proceso de evaluacion gana en objetividad y racionalidad gracias a la puntuacion individual de cada elemento en comparacion con cada uno del resto de elementos. La clasificacion final facilita la toma de decisiones sobre la aplicacion de recursos en materia de apoyo social.
