One of the goals in learning Mathematics is that students have the ability to solve problems including the ability to understand problems, design mathematical models, solve the problem and interpret the solutions obtained. This study aimed to describe the process students solve mathematical problems based on the Polya model presented in word problems and picture illustrations. This study was qualitative research with a phenomenological design. The Data were collected by using test, interview, and observations. The participants of this study were 29 junior high school students in Indonesia. The participants were selected refer to the Mathematics teacher's recommendations and the suitability between the research objectives and the topics they had learned. The result of this study indicated that students had difficulty in solving on word problem, especially on the stage of understanding the problem and devisin...

One cause is teacher did not give chance to accustom solving mathematic problem yet because some reason. So that, reserchers try to apply problem solving strategy that developed by G. Polya for increas problem solving ability. Kind of this research is The Static Group Comparison Study. Instrument for this researche is learning tools and the collect data instrument is probelm solving ability test. This research collected by test and analyze by statistic inferential, Mann-Withney. Outcomes from this research is applying of problem solving strategy give positive influence to problem solving ability in mathematics learning for VII grade student in SMP Negeri 1 Kandis Education Year 2015/2016.

The change in learning methods from face-to-face into learning through the network certainly raises various teachers, particularly mathematics teachers. This study aims to reveal the mathematics teacher's perception of online mathematics learning challenges and possibilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used a purposive-survey method. The researchers give online questionnaires to mathematics teachers who teach in Indonesia. Forty-eight respondents with various educational backgrounds, including bachelor degree, professional teacher education program, and master degree. This survey results indicate that educational experience is one of the things that will vary the ability of teachers in presenting online learning. The analysis of survey results reveals that mathematics teachers had a positive perception of online learning implementat...

One of these components is the process of using algebra as a tool for doing mathematical modelling. This study aims to reveal how the students’ competency in making mathematical modelling for solving an algebraic problem. The descriptive qualitative study design was used to obtain an overview of the mathematical modelling competencies of nine students (15-16 years old) in Pekanbaru, Riau Province. Each participant received a test that contains an algebraic problem. The results of this study show that when students do mathematical modelling there are several errors as follows: (1) failure in making suppositions for the problem and simplifying the given situation; (2) failure in recognizing quantities that influence the given situation, to identify the key variable; (3) failure in construct relation between variable; and (4) failure in solving question within mathematical modelling.

During the assessment phase, teachers are required to be able to provide effective feedback and its follow-up in order to get student learning goal. This study aims to present the facts that related to how forms of feedback and follow-up carried out by mathematics teachers in a one of public high school in Cimahi, West Java. Qualitative descriptive research method is equipped with observation, interview and questionnaire used to collect the research data. Through the data collection technique, it was found that the feedback that teacher presented from the entire learning process and the assessment process was still very insufficient. Students only get information about the scores obtained from the assessment in the form of a written test. There is no descriptive feedback and appropriate follow-up that makes students still feel difficulties in implementing mathematics learning. At the end of t...

The result of this study indicated that students had difficulty in solving on word problem, especially on the stage of understanding the problem and devising the plan. Furthermore, students faced obstacles in devising the plan and looking a back stage in illustrated problems which affect the outcome of the problem completion.

At the end of this article, it is also presented a recommendation for providing effective feedback based on theoretical studies of the results on previous studies.
