Dr. Fabio Thá works as psychoanalyst in private practice for more than 30 years, now in Balneario Camboriu, SC - Brazil. Qualified as psychologist in 1978 at PUC-PR, received his Ph.D. in Linguistics at UFPR in 2004. Since 1980 he has been an active member of the psychoanalytic community in Brazil. He participated in the activities of “Campo Freudiano no Brasil” and collaborated with the foundation of “Escola Brasileira de Psicanálise - Escola do Campo Freudiano” in April 1995 by “Associação Mundial de Psicanálise (AMP)” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For many years has taught Psychoanalysis for Psychology and Psychoanalysis students in several regions of Brazil and was Director of the Psychology Faculty at Faculdades Dom Bosco in Curitiba, PR - Brasil. Author of the books: ‘Uma semântica para o ato falho’ (‘A semantics for parapraxis’) and ‘Categorias conceituais da subjetividade’ (‘Conceptual categories of subjectivity’), Ed. Annablume, Sao Paulo.He currently coordinates the Camboriu Neuropsychanalysis Group.

ABSTRACT The Freudian theory of the hysterical symptom conceives it as a form of symbolic solutio... more ABSTRACT The Freudian theory of the hysterical symptom conceives it as a form of symbolic solution to an unresolved psychic conflict that has been repressed. A large section of Freud's early psychological writings is dedicated to the theoretical discussion of how a part of the body can be used as a symbol. This theory establishes a correlation between bodily experience and the experience of psychic conflict. This correlation can be contingent or metaphoric, and makes the bodily experience the symbol of the conflict. This theory fits the proposal of the Bayesian brain approach to the conversion symptoms (or Functional Motor and Sensory Symptom, FMSS). The precision of prior beliefs and prediction errors in the generation of what we perceive is modulated by attention. The cause of the FMSS can be considered as produced by abnormal priors to which excessive precision is given, thus leading to false perceptual inferences to explain the emergence of belief at the intermediate level. In the psychic conflict, too much precision is given to the sensory evidence coming from the desire, increasing uncertainty. As this fact results in the impossibility of experiencing the conflict and managing the affective overload, the attention is directed to the organic symptom that was available concomitantly to which the excessive precision is transferred. This paper intends to approximate the Freudian view of the conversion symptom and the Bayesian approach, showing that the articulation between symbolic reading and neuroscientific reading complement and clarify each other.

Apresentam-se algumas considerações preliminares para uma abordagem cognitiva da doutrina psicoló... more Apresentam-se algumas considerações preliminares para uma abordagem cognitiva da doutrina psicológica presente na obra de Freud. Analisam-se as teorias freudianas da representação, do pensamento e da linguagem, com a finalidade de mostrar a coerência de seus conceitos com modelos que estão sendo debatidos atualmente nas ciências cognitivas. Correlacionando aspectos relevantes da teoria freudiana e alguns conceitos contemporâneos sobre o assunto, procura-se mostrar como os modelos atuais e o modelo freudiano concebem o pensamento como originário da experiência do sujeito, argumentando-se que não há dois processos de pensamento distintos mas diferentes padrões de conexão entre representações.
