The relationship between neural social cognition patterns and performance on social cognition tas... more The relationship between neural social cognition patterns and performance on social cognition tasks in daily life is a topic of debate, with key consideration given to the extent to which theory of mind (ToM) brain circuits share properties re ecting the naturalistic context. To test implicit and explicit mentalizing in naturalistic context, we used an experimental fMRI paradigm that provided brain activation within the ToM brain circuits. We conducted the experiment on 42 adults and found that only explicit mentalizing, which involved silent viewing and two-choice answers, elicited activation of ToM neural circuits when animations of everyday social interactions were presented. We also observed that the nature of ToM reasoning, i.e., affective or cognitive, played a signi cant role in activating different neural circuits. By considering the condition (implicit vs explicit) and nature (affective vs cognitive) of social interactions in naturalistic context, we can understand the similarities and differences across ToM brain circuits during social interactions.

The main aim was to test sex-specific differences in frailty syndrome using a multimodal evaluation from clinical and imaging data to deepen the understanding of different underlying mechanisms involved in the two sexes, and thus understand the association with different risk factors. We have developed the EXecutive-functions Innovative Tool 360° (EXIT 360°), a new instrument that exploits 360° technologies to provide an ecologically valid assessment of executive functioning. Aim: This work wanted to evaluate the convergent validity of the EXIT 360°, comparing it with traditional neuropsychological tests (NPS) for executive functioning. Methods: Seventy-seven healthy subjects underwent an evaluation that involved: (1) a paper-and-pencil neuropsychological assessment, (2) an EXIT 360° session, involving seven subtasks delivered by VR headset, and (3) a usability assessment. However, little is known about TR descriptors, components, and efficacy in CHF. Methods: This work systematically reviewed the TR strategies of randomized controlled trials in people with CHF. A meta-analysis was run to test its effect on exercise capacity and quality of life compared to no rehabilitation (NI) and conventional intervention (CI). Results: Out of 6168 studies, 11 were eligible for the systematic review, and 8 for the meta-analysis. TR intervention was individual and multidimensional, with a frequency varying from 2 to 5 times per 8–12 weeks. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a multisystem neurological condition affecting different neurotransmi... more Parkinson's disease (PD) is a multisystem neurological condition affecting different neurotransmitter pathways characterized by aberrant functional connectivity (FC) and perfusion alteration. Since the FC, measuring neuronal activity, and cerebral blood flow (CBF) are closely related through the neurovascular coupling (NVC) mechanism, we aim to assess whether FC changes found in PD mirror perfusion ones. A multimodal MRI study was implemented by acquiring resting state functional MRI (rsfMRI) and arterial spin labeling (ASL) datasets on a group of 26 early PD (66.8 ± 8 years, 22 males, median [interquartile range] Hoehn and Yahr = 1.5 [1]) and 18 age-and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs). In addition, a T1-weighted MPRAGE was also acquired in the same scan session. After a standard preprocessing, resting state networks (RSNs) and CBF maps were extracted from rsfMRI and ASL dataset, respectively. Then, by means of a dual regression algorithm performed on RSNs, a cluster of FC differences between groups was obtained and used to mask CBF maps in the subsequent voxel-wise group comparison. Furthermore, a gray matter (GM) volumetric assessment was performed within the FC cluster in order to exclude tissue atrophy as a source of functional changes. Reduced FC for a PD patient with respect to HC group was found within a sensory-motor network (SMN, p FWE = 0.01) and visual networks (VNs, primary p FWE = 0.022 and lateral p FWE = 0.01). The latter was accompanied by a decreased CBF (primary p FWE = 0.037, lateral p FWE = 0.014 VNs), while no GM atrophy was detected instead. The FC alteration found in the SMN of PD might be likely due to a dopaminergic denervation of the striatal pathways causing a functional disconnection. On the other hand, the changes in connectivity depicted in VNs might be related to an altered non-dopaminergic system, since perfusion was also reduced, revealing a compromised NVC. Finally, the absence of GM volume loss might imply that functional changes may potentially anticipate neurodegeneration. In this framework, FC and CBF might be proposed as early functional biomarkers providing meaningful insights in evaluating both disease progression and therapeutic/rehabilitation treatment outcome.

However, the Yoni task remains a time-demanding tool without normative data. To fill this gap, we explored the convergent and discriminant validity, the inter-item reliability and provided normative data of the Italian version of the Yoni task (98 items), and developed two short versions (48 and 36 items). Background: According to the World Alzheimer Report (Prince, The Global Impact of Dementia: an An... more Background: According to the World Alzheimer Report (Prince, The Global Impact of Dementia: an Analysis of Prevalence, Incidence, Cost and Trends, 2015), 46.8 million people worldwide are nowadays living with dementia. And this number is estimated to approximate 131.5 million by 2050, with an increasing burden on society and families. The lack of medical treatments able to stop or slow down the course of the disease has moved the focus of interest toward the nonpharmacological approach and psychosocial therapies for people with/at risk of dementia, as in the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) condition. The purpose of the present study is to test an individualized home-based multidimensional program aimed at enhancing the continuum of care for MCI and outpatients with dementia in early stage using technology. Methods: The proposed study is a single blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving 30 subjects with MCI and Alzheimer's disease (AD) randomly assigned to the intervention group (Ability group), who will receive the "Ability Program", or to the active control group (ACG), who will receive "Treatment As Usual" (TAU). The protocol provides for three steps of assessment: at the baseline (T_0), after treatment, (T_1) and at follow-up (T_2) with a multidimensional evaluation battery including cognitive functioning, behavioral, functional, and quality of life measures. The Ability Program lasts 6 weeks, comprises tablet-delivered cognitive (5 days/week) and physical activities (7 days/week) combined with a set of devices for the measurement and monitoring from remote of vital and physical health parameters. The TAU equally lasts 6 weeks and includes paper and pencil cognitive activities (5 days/ week), with clinician's prescription to perform physical exercise every day and to monitor selected vital parameters.
