Le mouvement touche des pentecotistes, reformes, baptistes, lutheriens, "independants" et aussi des catholiques. Par consequent, sa dimension oecumenique prend une certaine ampleur. Mais le depassement des protestants par les catholiques en nombre et organisation suscite un declin de l'oecumenisme et le renforcement des caracteristiques protestantes a partir de 1974. Le mouvement se stabilise pendant les annees 1980. Il compte environ 12 000 personnes en 1988 et un certain nombre d'eglises sont de tendance charismatique. Aucune structure formelle n'assure la coordination generale des divers courants qui se developpement separement. Bien que marginal en apparence, le renouveau charismatique protestant a son importance, apportant un certain renouveau au protestantisme francais.
