Energy consumption of buildings is one of the keys for saving energy in a society. Buildings have great potential for energy savings, and in this sense, the European Union (EU) is trying to regulate the rules of its member states. In 2010, a new directive was published, which will help reduce EU buildings energy consumption in the long run. A requirement that all new buildings must be net zero energy consumers by 2020 has received the most attention. The directive further sets a framework for creating an integrated methodology for measuring energy performance, establishing minimum performance standards for new and certain existing buildings, and conducting regular inspections of critical buildings system. In this paper, we try to sign some fundamental aspects to achieve the proposed objectives.

In this context, several degrees must reduce the hours for classroom and this affects in a higher way to some subjects. Some of them can see reduced their teaching hours even to the half. So, it is necessary to adopt some measures in order to maintain the level of the degree (it would be very difficult to increase this level in such situation of reducing a lot of teaching hours) and to take advantage of the change and adapt the subjects to the new century and technologies. In Wi-Fi networks it always exists, as a basic structure, a communication manager and a number of... more In Wi-Fi networks it always exists, as a basic structure, a communication manager and a number of clients. Clients will always listen for the presence of one or more managers who tell them, among other information, the name of the network that they manage, the channel to use, the security and available authentication algorithms, etc. Based on this information and settings of the device in question, the client will be able to join the appropriate network. In our project, where we develop a communication system among students and teacher into a classroom, we use ZigBee protocol based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Different topologies can be used with this purpose and in this paper several of them are analyzed. Among them, we have selected the nonbeacon-enabled cluster tree.

For a good performance in the capture of the wind energy, one of the most important parts are the blades of the wind turbine. From simple designs for domestic wind turbines to the application of the last technology of aerodynamics for big aero-generators, research in blades (physical design, profile, materials, structure, etc.) is one of the major research fields in electric generation. Blades should be studied primarily from two points of view: the aerodynamic and structural one. Blade element momentum theory is normally used in the optimization process of blade design. In this paper, we present an introduction to the design of blades of a wind turbine for using in a low power and low cost wind generator.

But this year, an economic crisis of unprecedented scale started. Lower economic growth has effectively reduced the stringency of the 20% targets and the achievement of renewable energy targets and efficiency measures reduce emissions further. At the same time, renewable energies have created job opportunities but also energy security needs. This energy situation implies important changes, particularly in the energy system and the distribution of the different types of energy generation. At the end of the paper, some scenarios are analyzed to understand future ways for research and markets.

Traction applications in automotive have traditionally used lead acid batteries. However, the sit... more Traction applications in automotive have traditionally used lead acid batteries. However, the situation is changing as new battery chemistries and supporting technologies have brought with them new technical and economic benefits, making battery power viable and more accessible for traction applications that were previously uneconomic or impractical. So, traction applications, and particularly electric vehicles, are being increasing their popularity with new type of batteries. In this case, electric cars use the energy stored in a battery (or series of batteries) for vehicle propulsion. Electric motors provide a clean and safe alternative to the internal combustion engine. Obviously, with the new technology for batteries some systems to improve them are arising. At the present, systems for monitoring and managing these batteries are common. In this article we summarize the Battery Management Systems and present some choices for some of the parts of these systems: communication protocols, microcontrollers, and the batteries.

It is a prototype of BMS that optimizes the use of batteries and provides an adequate power for an electric vehicle. It manages loading and unloading processes, and it can be used to ensure the safety of the battery and prolong its life. It has been developed a tracking system for the batteries by measuring the most important parameters in battery charging / discharging. This system will allow to match the cells in an efficient way and will provide detailed information about the battery and its operation over time. It has a system that accurately measures the voltages, so you can check the performance and lifetime of the cells.
