analysis of limits and possibilities of use for the non-specialist teacher". Despite the
indisputable presence of music in the practice of generalist teachers, those responsible for
multidisciplinary teaching in Early Childhood Education and initial series of Elementary
Education have their musical education in pedagogy courses been pointed by researchers as
insufficient or even nonexistent, with very few exceptions. The present work makes a
bibliographical revision regarding the musical training that generalist teachers have received in
courses of Pedagogy in some Brazilian regions. In the Southeast region, the mentioned studies
bring results only from the state of São Paulo. This study presents partial results of the ongoing
research, bringing a survey of data from the states that have not been part of previous studies
in the southeast region of Brazil, especially Rio de Janeiro. The fragility of the music in the
training of teachers in this state could be confirmed through the analysis of the curriculum of
the courses of Pedagogy, in which insufficient workload and musical content are inserted as
part of a single discipline of Arts, among others, as well as absence of music in some of them.
The question of the textbook is still inserted in this context in order to investigate the relation
of the generalist teacher with the material, the limits and possibilities of its use in the classroom
that is going to be concluded later. It is hoped after a detailed and final analysis of the data to
be collected through this research, that it can contribute in different aspects not only to the
musical formation inserted in the academic-professional formation in the courses of Pedagogy
in the state of Rio de Janeiro, but also for the practice of generalists teachers and advances in
research in Music Education in Brazil.
