students in the subjects of dance and theater creation (performing arts), in the University of the Arts (Guayaquil, Ecuador) during the second academic period of 2019. The undertaking and processing of semi-structured interviews allowed us to demonstrate the presence of four fundamental elements in the social construction of the artist in this sociocultural context: 1) The determining vocation of the student, 2) The presence of stereotypes associated with art and artists, 3) The family with its fears and hopes, support and opposition, and 4) Society with its specific training opportunities and uncertain possibilities for professional development. In all the students interviewed, the construction of the artist’s “persona” is (or remains) distant from egomaniacal representations, to highlight their selflessness.

This process is beyond the traditional defense of the right to cultural diversity to set a new ethnopolitical discourse aimed at the decolonization of the state and nation project under the Bolivarian revolutionary process. Our paper attempts to make an approach to the analysis of the main factors which have influenced in the identitary construction of "African descent" in the period 1998-2008 in Venezuela. It is based on interviews with leaders and members of Afro Venezuelan organizations, and reviewing literature and various documents which were produced and disseminated by their activists.

Results show the use of this metaphor and that of the Iberian Lion to split the population into Americans and Spaniards and give the war for independence the character of an international war, when the American nation (Gran Colombia) did not yet exist. The metaphor of the centaur of the plains combined the foundational myths of western culture with the symbolic codes of the plainsmen and converted it into a foundational symbol for the Venezuelan nation.

The defense of these constitutional rights has produced great tension: the governments of Latin American countries confront the need to exploit all material and humans resources (indigenous and otherwise) in their countries, in order to insert themselves competitively into the new international market structures. From the Venezuelan experience, we analyze: 1. The impossibility of the State to guarantee the control of its own ethno-cidal mechanism; 2. The negation of the rights that sanction on a practical level the condition of human being in the case of indigenous people , turning them into the mute personage typically found in drama and pantomime; 3. The possibilities that indigenous people have to exert their right to give voice to their plight politically on the national and international scene.
