Calculation of the following values, Asymmetric number (Ka), Flow Magnitude (Ku), and Swirl in th... more Calculation of the following values, Asymmetric number (Ka), Flow Magnitude (Ku), and Swirl in the flow (Kw) in a single bended pipe, we can understand how the flow is effected after the bend. This thesis’ aim is to calculate how those numbers change and how accurate the results can get with different simulation technics. Simulation of these experiments needs a lot of time and effort, especially if there is not a specific source of information since this is one of its kind. My secondary objective was to determine which kind of simulation method was more efficient and which one was more accurate. Unfortunately, more accuracy comes with disadvantages. Which, some of them can take long time to finish the simulation, the others needs very fine meshes. As it will be explained later, it has been found semi-fast and very accurate method to do all the flow simulations in the future. Fluid in the pipe with low velocity (2 m/s) and high velocity (6 m/s) have been tested, compared by velocity-wise and afterwards compared by method-wise. At the end effectiveness/accuracy results were presented and non-dimensional results are given for different velocities.

The mixture fraction and it's dissipation rate of an impulsively started jet is directly computed... more The mixture fraction and it's dissipation rate of an impulsively started jet is directly computed, and the results are validated with the experimental data. Sensitive simulation parameters that affect the numerical results are studied. In order to resolve sub-grid scales in LES, a simple sub-grid model for SDR is developed. The samples taken from a relatively coarser LES are used for the statistical analysis of this highly transient phenomenon.
