Many people accompanied me in my workspace in a variety of ways. My dissertation chair and co-chair, Gretchen Murphy and Julie Avril Minich, shaped this project from the very beginning, asked the right questions, and provided the most helpful resources-all of which allowed me to complete this dissertation under some pressing circumstances. The additional work of the committee-Alison Kafer, Phil Barrish, Allen MacDuffie, and Alex Wettlaufer, continue to mold the future iterations of the project. Having learned as much as I have from each of these scholars' work, I feel honored to receive their commentary on a project that means so much to me.
