Food insecurity is a critical global problem with social and public health consequences. In Brazi... more Food insecurity is a critical global problem with social and public health consequences. In Brazil, access to adequate food is a fundamental human right guaranteed under the country's Constitution since 2010. As such, the State assumes the distinct and complementary obligations to respect, protect, promote and provide the Right to Adequate Food. The aim of this study is to present actions related to the "provision" dimension that have been developed as part of a network of public infrastructure strategies for food and nutrition security in Brazil. Through an exploratory, analytical literature review, the paper focuses on the operational designs and logistics of three main strategies: Food Banks, Community Kitchens, and Popular Restaurants. The Brazilian experience indicates that public actions are necessary, especially considering the urgency for those groups living with hunger and poverty. While similar programs can be found in other countries in South and North America, they are mostly offered by civil society organizations, and have not advanced toward public institutionalization. In fact, private programs are criticized for negating governments' obligation and responsibility in this area. Brazil's experience sheds light on public initiatives in meeting the State's obligations towards the Right to Adequate Food.

A relação entre o consumo de produtos ultraprocessados e o aumento da obesidade e do risco de doe... more A relação entre o consumo de produtos ultraprocessados e o aumento da obesidade e do risco de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis (DCNT) impulsionou organismos internacionais a mobilizarem os governos para regular a redução dos teores de açúcares, gorduras e sódio nesses produtos. O artigo analisa a compreensão de diferentes sujeitos estratégicos sobre os riscos à saúde associados aos produtos ultraprocessados, e a intervenção pública adotada para modificar a sua composição, em atendimento à Política Nacional de Alimentação e Nutrição (PNAN). Trata-se de uma investigação empírica qualitativa em que foram entrevistados representantes de 12 instituições. Nesse contexto, o nutricionista atua com protagonismo na agenda de Alimentacao e Nutricao, e em consonância com outros atores do Sistema Unico de Saude (SUS). O presente artigo apresenta a experiencia de duas redes virtuais do Observatorio de Politicas de Seguranca Alimentar e Nutricao (OPSAN/UnB), e descreve os recursos para educacao permanente empregados em cada uma delas. O acumulo das duas redes virtuais evidencia a relevância de cyberespacos que possibilitem o ensino a distância de maneira interdisciplinar, e que ampliem o acesso a recursos educativos para promocao da saude de forma permanente e atualizada.

The increase of the availability of foodstuff, through the consolidation of local production and ... more The increase of the availability of foodstuff, through the consolidation of local production and consumption circuits, strengthens the scenario of a decentralized agri-food system of family origin capable of promote Food and Nutrition Security (SAN). Aiming to verify the tendency of insertion of this model of production in institutional purchases of public equipment of Food and Nutrition Security in the Federal District, Brazil, five social actors have been interviewed: public managers, local family farmers representative, non-governmental organization that receives donation from Food Bank and meal supplier to community restaurants. Results were analyzed based on the discourse of the collective subject (DSC) using the Qualiquantisoft® version 1.3c Build (2) software. Dietary changes in Western society highlight the need for individual and collective health provid... more Dietary changes in Western society highlight the need for individual and collective health providers to use their strategic positions to actively promote healthy eating habits. Using the research-action methodology in various clinics in the Federal District of Brazil, the present study aimed to identify what these professionals consider a healthy diet. The results indicate an apparent conceptual dichotomy: on the one hand, an idealized version of eating for good health based on the scientific literature; on the other, a concept derived from the ideal, but based on people's day-to-day reality. In their pursuit of the latter concept, people in social situations make connections between various pieces of information, and what emerges are the eating habits most closely associated with a particular lifestyle. A oportunidade de debater as caracteristicas do Sistema Alimentar hegemonico e suas inter-relacoe... more A oportunidade de debater as caracteristicas do Sistema Alimentar hegemonico e suas inter-relacoes com a Seguranca Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN) e preciosa e necessaria diante das ainda inumeras violacoes ao Direito Humano a Alimentacao Adequada (DHAA). Tendo como referencia as diferentes expressoes de violacoes a esse direito, no Brasil, atualmente, 67% da populacao adulta sofrem algum tipo de inseguranca alimentar e nutricional, considerando tanto os casos de desnutricao (2,7%), como os de sobrepeso (49%) e obesidade (14,8%).1 O Sistema Nacional de Informacoes Toxico-Farmacologicas (Sinitox) da Fundacao Oswaldo Cruz revela outro exemplo de violacao ao DHAA. It is presented a review of the guidelines implementation of the National Food and Nutrition Poli... more It is presented a review of the guidelines implementation of the National Food and Nutrition Policy (PNAN) contextualizing the actions in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) scenario. At ten years of its publication, PNAN faces challenges both to expand and qualify the shares of food and nutrition on health. It is challenging to stand as interlocutor and legitimate representative of the area of health, political and institutional context of food security and nutrition. Issues related to the articulation of PNAN and future National Policy on Food and Nutrition Security will be analyzed to demonstrate the convergence of agendas among the priorities for the guarantee of the SAN. The authors identify the potential of this field of action, from the current institutional setting, and the need for comprehensive solutions that address the complexity of food and nutrition in health.

Despite this dynamism, the policy processes of the UN Food System Summit were not able to—or might not even have tried to—break the mechanisms that make such initiatives politically invisible.

A intenção da equipe de educadoras/pesquisadoras era compreender o contexto e as dinâmicas da alimentação na perspectiva de gênero e realizar uma ação de EAN que fosse planejada e realizada com a participação ativa das pessoas envolvidas, à luz do Marco de Referência de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional para as Políticas Públicas. Assim, por meio de um conjunto de oficinas, as diferentes dimensões do espaço social alimentar foram abordadas, discutidas e registradas em imagens, sons e documentação cartográfica. Essa jornada transformadora, registrada em livro e vídeo, foi norteada pelo princípio "se você quer conversar comigo sobre o que eu como, vamos antes conversar sobre como eu vivo...", envolvendo mulheres, mães, filhas, donas de casa, bordadeiras e costureiras, estudantes e educadoras/pesquisadoras.
O presente livro, fruto de dois anos de trabalho, divide-se em
cinco momentos: introdução; diálogos teóricos; relatos da experiência;
destaques das qualidades do processo de ensino-aprendizagem
e considerações finais. Apresenta-se, inicialmente, um
breve relato dos caminhos teórico-metodológicos delineados
para a condução da ação de EAN. A finalidade desta seção é revelar
a trajetória percorrida para a realização do projeto, justificando
os recortes e as escolhas efetuadas. A segunda parte expõe as
discussões teóricas relacionadas à alimentação no contexto contemporâneo.
Nela, são abordadas noções do território e espaço
social alimentar, bem como, a questão de gênero. O terceiro momento
detalha as dinâmicas utilizadas nas ações e apresenta os
relatos das oficinas. O quarto, revela o que chamamos de “qualidades
do processo de ensino-aprendizagem”, onde destacamos
aspectos considerados importantes para a realização de estratégias educativas e participativas em alimentação e nutrição. São
elas: “escuta e a ação presente”; “afeto e cuidado”; “diálogo de
saberes” e “capacidade de diálogo”. Por fim, as considerações
finais apresentam uma síntese do que vivemos e aprendemos.
O vídeo exibe alguns registros audiovisuais coletados durante
as oficinas, assim como depoimentos sobre o significado da
experiência para os grupos de mulheres do Recanto das Emas e
para as educadoras/pesquisadoras.
Por fim, disponibilizamos, no apêndice, os roteiros das oficinas,
algumas receitas compartilhadas com os grupos e outros
materiais utilizados no projeto.
