This paper undertakes a study of repetition in order to highlight its stylistic and communicative potentials. The aim basically is to extract, interpret and analyse repetitions using Hallidayan Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) given that it is a function-based theory for interpreting texts, and modelling performance, which is bordered with meaning, function and language in use. Six Yoruba literary texts: two prose works-Delano's Loio Ojoun and Olabimtan's Kekere Ekun\ two drama texts-Faleti's Basorun Gaa and Owolabi's Lisabi Agbongbo Akala; and two poetry texts-Abimbola's Oju Odu Mereerindinldgun and Olabimtan's Akojopo Ewi Abalaye dti Ewi Apilekp. Findings reveal that full repetition intensifies the idea of the repeated sentences, thereby establishing the fact that same idea is repeated as often as the sentences are repeated, partial repetition projects elegant variation of semantically correspondent items, lexical repetition creates cohesive link and obviates ambiguity, it also involves preponderance of a particular word. Semantic repetition symbolizes intensification and reduplication of structure with a variation of meaning, thereby giving room to deviation which spices a work of art, while phonetic repetition focuses and intensifies vowel and consonant sounds. The paper concludes that stylistically, repetitions contribute to aesthetics and poetic elegance of literary texts.

The outbreak of the virus in question has been considered a pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO) around December 2019. The outbreak of corona virus has in no doubt constituted acute global challenges to government, medical personnel, scientists and global health bodies that have been searching for the accurate cure for the menace. In spite of enormous attention and research put in place to contain the pandemic disease, the research has not proven any substantial cure for the corona virus. It is pertinent to note here that such a dreadful and life-threatening pandemic will generate global outcries and responses to sooth people' s mind in dire need of consolation, adaptive and receptive senses. The attempt to make the emotion of people about the pandemic and the need for publicity bv individuals, agencies and governments at various level are culminates into songs which is considered as one of the best ways through which Africans air thoughts. On the premise that people's opinions are surveyed through songs, this study therefore using Daniel Goleman's psychological perspective of emotional intelligence, analyzed the musical skits released by five artists: Jubal. Remilekun, Labaeka. Saote Arewa and Cobhams to discern the paramount tones of people which are supplicatory, satirical, sermonic, helplessness and optimism, which run through almost all the songs of the artists. The study establishes songs as one of the pivotal tools of awareness and the awareness during pandemic like corona virus is a necessity. It further established that tones from such songs represent people's voice and reception of corona virus pandemic.

They constitute rhetorical strategies employed to embellish everyday conversation, and also add glamour and beauty to discourse whether spoken or written in any given circumstance. To this end, this study takes a look at proverbs which encapsulate a community's cultures, histories, indigenous cosmologies, traditions, world views and philosophies of a social group. Ten Yoruba proverbs were purposively selected and analyzed within the purview of Systemic Functional Theory' (SFT) as promulgated by Michael Halliday. The contextual and sociocultural aspect of SFT is a useful tool for the analyses of this paper. This paper brings to the fore a rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba cultural group. The paper provides useful insights into the contemporary necessity for the study of the social significance of Yoruba proverbs. The study thus reveals and exposes the pattern of behavior, and beliefs of the Yoruba people. It is a veritable mine of materials on African proverbs.

This study explores, from a stylistic point of view, the various structures of proverbs found in some selected Yoruba written literature. The intention is to identify, describe, and interpret the different patterns of structure and the communicative functions they signal in the proverbs. The study is anchored on Michael Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar. Twelve texts from the works of Olu-Owolabi, Adebayo Faleti, Qladejo Okediji, Akinwumi I §ola, and Kola Akinlade having rich repertoire of proverbs with thematic and stylistic similarities were selected; and the proverbs were subjected to stylistic analysis. Findings reveal that simple sentence proverbs facilitate clear

The Yoruba indigenous music as repertoire of cultural norms and values is set to make corrections to social vices, societal ills and imported culture emanatingfrom such crisis that poses threat to the Yoruba race. This article examines music as a tool of social change among women, by using musical track of selected artistes, with a view to correcting the behavioural decadence in women as a means of conflict resolution. The Data for the study were drawn from recorded music of three indigenous Yoruba artistes: Ayinla Omowura, Odolaye Aremu and Ogundare Foyanmu who unfairly single out women for attack in their music. Employing the Mirror-Image Approach of Sociology of Literature, the paper identified five roles of women in domestic violence: adultery & infidelity, jealousy, pugnacity, unkempt attitude and imprudence. The paper concludes that women are agents of domestic conflict in the society, while the indigenous musicians are like orators that mediate into such conflicts, so as to create sanity and achieve a better and peaceful society.
