The sample used consisted of 10 leading-energy-sector companies traded in the NYSE, most of which rank among the largest companies in the world by market capitalization, while the US-based ones are also Fortune 500 companies. Over the eleven-year period examined, from 2009 to 2019, a sampling frame of 110 data series was gathered and analyzed using panel data methodologies. The impact of the key parameters of capital structure, corporate governance, and equity ownership was tested using regression analysis (panel data method) on firm performance, measured by profitability. Our results support a significant relation among major capital structure and corporate governance parameters and firm performance, whereas no evidence was found to support a significant impact of equity ownership on the dependent variable found ascertained. Further...

With the above in mind both traditional linear and the nonlinear variants of the Granger causality test are conducted. An extensive sample of yields on 10-year sovereign bonds issued by 12 EMU countries and USA over the period running from January 2000 to June of 2014 is employed. Our findings reveal interesting causality patterns both at first and second order moment of sovereign yields. In particular, a bi-directional causality in mean and variance within the group of the southern Europe countries and a weak evidence of causality both in mean and variance running from southern to northern Europe sovereign yields is observed. Our results entail significant policy implications for market regulators and bond portfolio inv...

Our empirical investigation has a dual objective, to record the dividend policy of the Greek firms and to compare their dividend choices to other, more financially mature, markets. We sent to all Athens Exchange listed firms a detailed questionnaire concerning their dividend choices. Our findings proved to be very interesting since the average listed Greek firm shares the same opinion with the average firm of the compared studies in the following areas: Price affection, risk bearing, past dividends’ pattern and agency costs. Some of our findings proved to be quite close with some of the results of the compared studies in the following subjects: The sector of the company, the target payout ratio, the financing ability and the information content of dividends. Finally, some of our findings are in ...

We hypothesize that in a weak economic environment, with negative perspectives, the earnings of the companies traded in the economy are affected by both corporate parameters and the general country’s economic trend. Our findings support this hypothesis, since the earnings of the firm are affected by the firm’s efficient income – expenditures management and by the country’s economic environment. Furthermore, our analysis shows that the gap between operating income and operating expenditure acts as a pillow when economy shrinks. In the Greek case it seems that this gap was not enough to absorb the negative effect of the Greek economic crisis on the construction sector, which now faces negative results.

Among a plethora of regulatory initiatives and collaborations, the 2030 Agenda, and incorporated 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), represent United Nations recent remarkable development toward this direction. The International Maritime Organization (IMO), as the United Nations (UNs) specialized Agency to deal with safety at sea and protection of the marine environment has been, actively, engaged and harmonized its strategy with global sustainability mandates. Similarly, a great deal of research and motivation has been placed on corporate social responsibility (CSR), as a business operating model that goes beyond regulatory compliance and integrates sustainability challenges. In view of the limited amount of related research in the tanker and dry bulk sector, the purpose of this paper is to investigate and provide...

The originality of this study lies in that it tests these relationships by employing sub-regional panels based on the geographical distribution of EU countries and by clustering EU member states in Eurozone and non-Euro countries. Results support the stock market-led growth hypothesis only for the case of the full sample panel. Furthermore, both the full panel results and Eurozone panel results fail to support the bank credit-led growth hypothesis. These results are inconsistent with other studies, which however employ only full regional panels.
