In this view, the depoliticization of recent history is a top priority. The present study aims to highlight the way in which the schoolbooks in Romania bring into the memory of the young generation a strictly secret episode in recent (pre-1990) history: anti-communist dissent. Two categories of methods were used: researching the data and information contained in history textbooks and other bibliographic sources on anti-communist dissent in Romania in the overall socio-political context of that era; and assessing—with the help of a set of surveys—the degree of assimilation by young people in Romania of the knowledge about communism conveyed through textbooks. Research points to the conclusion that the Romanian cu...

According to the realities of the geographical space, the focus of the present study rivets on differentiating certain typologies and principles of tourism development in an area strongly affected by the economic streamlining following the effects that the tourism development has had upon the social and economic reality of the area. Apart from the analysis of the development of the Straja resort, the author realized a diagnostic analysis of the territory underlining the favourable agents for tourism activities, and in the same time the necessary steps that need to be taken in order to ensure the optimal development of the area. The detailed analysis included a series of parameters among which we name a few: number of sky slop...

At the same time, this experience may contribute to enhancing inter-human exchanges. Tourism may put to account the natural potential (which cannot be exported but may become an important export source at local level), historical and cultural availabilities, on condition that sustainable development principles are promoted and observed. As society is obviously evolving, tourism has been recording both a national and an international upsurge. Basic tourism resources are the natural environment, its quality and aesthetic attributes. Their sustainable development may contribute towards harmonising and pushing forward some regions by way of stimulating and balancing economic growth at national, regional and local levels (Candea, Bran. 2001...

Which coincide with the state frontiers: cross-border zones and Euroregions. This kind of cooperation should take into consideration the fact that between the two crossborder zones there is a strip of frontier and, most of the times, there are different legislations that induce differ ent requests regarding the cooperation framework. Consequently, the braking up process represents the main threat to the crossborder regions; if this process is not properly coordinated at the central level, there is the risk of loosing control, the cross border region gravitating towards one of the co participant states. The issues that fuel the dynamic of the cross border zones are part of the level of harmonization of the policy for the development of the two cross border zones that come in contact. The areas sit uated on each side of the border have, or have not the tendency to evolve in the same way, as a result of central and local policy, but also the local specif ic situations, which impose the crossborder zone type. Cross-border zones. Types of cross-border zones Largely speaking, the crossborder zone stands for the space situated on each side of the frontier, with breadths varying between 30 and 60 km, charac terized by a clear variation of human and mate

The economic territorial disparities are shaped by the action of such factors as local resources, geographical position, regional development background, the infrastructure of transport and telecommunications, labour potential, investments, local, regional and international partnership, the capacity of the local/regional administration to obtain European funding, etc. In the economy of Arad County, agriculture and forestry, which have a significant potential for development, are dependent on the biological, soil and climatic conditions of the relief steps; agriculture and related services (210 firms) are better developed in the lowlands, especially at Cermei, Horia, Iratoşu, Olari, Sânleani, and Şiria, while forestry is specific to the mountainous area (Dezna, Moneasa, Buteni, Avram Iancu, and Săvârşin); industrial activities are wide-ranging mostly in...

Support system for urban water management decisions. Elaboration of a database module structure. ... more Support system for urban water management decisions. Elaboration of a database module structure. This was the first step in analysing the impact of the types and domains of the urban ecosystem on the structure of the periurban space by distinctive levels of space organisation (macro-territorial, mezzo-territorial and micro-territorial). The size of these levels is determined in terms of the complexity of the whole. Furthermore, the particular traits of various types of town-periurban space biunivocal impact were identified in relation to the relief potential by taking into account the distribution of towns by big relief units and hypsometric steps, as well as their position against the waterways. The purpose was to assess territorial expansion and the limits of the suburban systems to be studied in the future stages of research. While physiognomy often poses no other problems but the explanation of the succession of major sequences, unveiling the character of energy, substance and information fluxes was particularly challanging. Assessment of environmental potential. The next step was to assess the environmental potential as a premiss for defining the extent of town vulnerability to various types of flooding. Assessing environmental potential is a very complex undertaking based in principal on the knowledge of the resources and present condition of towns. Micro-territorial assessments proceed from a detailed analysis of major components in the light of the particularities of the analysed geosystem. Evaluating geological, geomorphological, topoclimatic, biogeographical, hydrological and other resources raises no technical or methodological difficulties. Assessment of human impact on the geosystem. This is a basic aspect in detecting critical areas / points, that is, the thresholds of those geosystems in which the imbalance between consumption of resources and available resorces is so great that the whole territorial system risks to be degraded.

This economic policy was not in any way new or specific to Romania alone. It was the haulmark of economic development for all the former East-European communist countries. The setting up of industrial units within urban structures, insufficiently developed to assimilate them effectively, engendered severe dysfunctionalities in the industrialised towns themselves and throughout the urban system. The work discusses a few consequences of planting some mammoth steel industries in three towns with a different demographic pattern: Galaţi, Târgovişte and Oţelu Roşu.

The analysis of the causes that generate the extreme hydrologic events in Romania within the last three years leads us to the identification of five categories of towns related to floods vulnerability. There are conditioned on one hand by the geographical position in relation to morphology and hydrography and on the other hand to human impact (transport infrastructure, upstream hydrotehnic arrangements and especially to sewage systems). On this base, we were able to identify towns vulnerable to floods having as mainspring: the misfit sewerage systems, the accumulation of waters from the proximate slopes, the feckless drainage system, the overflowing of the neighbouring rivers and the consequence of giving away the upstream hydrotehnic works. All these typologies were synthesized and transposed into cartographic display.
