It is shown that Balinese possesses simple and complex reflexives. Only complex reflexives participate in the logophoric environment. Importantly it is claimed that the logophoric use of the reflexive anaphor occurs in a clausal complement of the verbs of communication and other verbs denoting a general state of consciousness. The logophor can appear in the subject or object position of the embedded clause while the reflexive use of the anaphor is only limited to occurring in a single clause and is restricted to occupying the object position, either the object of a verb or the object of a preposition. The characteristic differences in the distribution between the two are reflected in a syntactic domain having to do with passivization in that logophoric constructions allow it while reflexive constructions completely ban it. In addition, logophoricity may characterize ...

It is aimed at finding out the types of inflectional affixes and explaining how the inflected words found in The Jakarta Post are represented in tree diagram. The data of this study were taken from 31 articles related to business in The Jakarta Post printed edition published on 14th, 15th, and 16th of June 2017. Observation method was applied in this study for collecting data. Firstly, Articles about business were chosen. Secondly, the articles were read intensively one by one in order to find out the affixes occurring on the articles. Thirdly, every affix was marked and noted down. Lastly, those affixes were classified into inflectional affixes. The data were analyzed descriptively based on the theories of inflectional affixes proposed by Francis Katamba (1993) in his book entitled Morphology as the main theory and the theory of tree diagram by Quirk at al. The word one in english has catagorized different part namely with singular by one , with plural by ones , modified with article- the, and determiner -that or -this. The catagorized of one could be found in the nominal substitution as cohesive device. The translation one in the English into Indonesian has correspodence equivalent in the text. Molina and Albier (2002:509) stated that translation techniques have five basic characteristics: they affect the result of the translation, they are classified by the comparison with the original, they affect micro-units of text, they are by nature discursive and contextual, and they are functional. The result of translation is made the equivalent between source language and target language. Based on equivalent Halliday (1976: 38) stated one as substitution is as ...

In order to transfer the meaning of the Indonesian idiomatic noun phrase into English, the translator should be able to transfer the meaning or message of every single word or the combination of words in the phrase from the source language into the target language. Related to the phenomena, the current research was conducted. It was a descriptive qualitative study. The data were taken from an Indonesian novel entitled “Bumi Manusia” by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, and its translation product in English by Max Lane entitled “This Earth of Mankind”. In analyzing the translation techniques used in the translation of Indonesian idiomatic noun phrases, the authors used the theory proposed by Molina and Albir (2002). From the analysis, it can be concluded that the techniques used in the translation of Indonesia...

Typology study of Ciacia language (CL) in various linguistic aspects has not been conducted yet. ... more Typology study of Ciacia language (CL) in various linguistic aspects has not been conducted yet. It is the first study that focuses on syntactic typology. Ciacia language is one of the local languages in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study focuses on verbal clause construction of CL. This construction covers several subject and aspect markers, intransitive and transitive verb, and argument as consequence of verb valencies in the clause construction. The study used written and oral data. The oral data of this study is obtained through recording and elicitation techniques. Written data is obtained from the previous studies. The study also used synthetic data which is verified by the informants. It was analyzed by using distributional and match methods with change and loss techniques. Based on the result of this study, it found that verbal clause construction of Ciacia language is always filled by subject and aspect markers (S/AM) that are affixed to PRED verb. The ba...

Thus, applicative constructs include the creation of new objects and the advancement of peripheral arguments occupying the core argument. Each language has a strategy in getting around the applicative construction. Agglutinative languages for example, deal with morphological applicative construction. Unlike Lamalera dialect of Lamaholot language(LDLL) which is not an agglutinative language. Lamalera dialect of Lamaholot language has a morphophonogical strategy such as sound alternation or internal modification and syntactic strategy of word order. Both LDLL applicative construction strategies will be presented in this article.

It is the first study that focus on syntactic typology. Ciacia language is one of local languages in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study focuses on five main problems, they are (1) How is the base construction of verbal clause in CL? (2) How are the predicate and structure argument constructions of verbal clause in CL, (3) How are the simple predicate and complex predicate constructions of verbal clause in CL? (4) How are valency and valency change mechanism of verbal clause construction in CL? (5) How are complex sentence construction and grammatical alliance system?. The oral data of this study is obtained through recording and elicitation techniques. Written data is obtained through the previous studies. The study also used synthetic data which is verrified by the informants. The data was analyzed by apportion (distributional) method. The investigation o...

The data were analyzed qualitatively in accordance with some relative theories. The theories used for this study are the theories of English yes-no questions taken from “Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language” by Quirk (1985) and “A Practical English Grammar” by Thomson A.J and A.V Martinet (1986). Then the data were presented descriptively by explaning the process and the result of discussion.Based on the findings there are five forms of English yes-no questions found in the data belonging to the Major classes of questions. Those English yes-no questions found in the data were possitive yes-no questions, negative yes-no questions, declarative questions, tag questions, yes-no questions with modal auxiliaries. The data were analyzed and so...
