The list will provide teachers with a reference list that has been checked by the faculty of teacher preparation programs for validity and reliability. This will allow teachers to write their learning objectives and prepare their lesson plans with convenience and uniformity, using the right action verb for the corresponding cognitive level with the correct contextualized translation of the action verbs. Overall, we expect this will contribute to improving the teachers' Arabic literacy in the appropriate use of Bloom's taxonomy action verbs. Bloom's taxonomy is a widely used hierarchy that aligns both curriculum and assessment goals as it describes learning objectives in terms of explicit and implicit cognitive skills and abilities . The Taxonomy was originally developed by Benjamin Bloom in 1956 (Bloom et al., 1956) and went through a major revision in 2001 by . The taxonomy claims that human thinking can be classified into six different levels:

We report a 4-year longitudinal study of sleep patterns of cadets at the United States Military Academy and the consequences of an extension of sleep from 6 to 8 hr per night at the United States Navy ' s Recruit Training Command. These studies provide an opportunity to observe sleep in a college-age population and also to record sleep patterns over an entire 4-year college experience, adding to our understanding of the changes in sleep patterns over the life span.

For this case study, 32 undergraduate female students attending a private university in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia were surveyed and 15 were interviewed. The students were selected following a convenience sampling method. The research design was non-experimental case study; the method of data collection was concurrent explanatory mixed methods approach. The analysis of the data followed a thematic analysis approach. The results of the study indicated that the major reason students chose to transfer from a public university to a private university were: flexibility in their ability to choose a major, smaller classroom sizes, and overall better university environment. Moreover, students indicated that if private universities would lower their tuition, they would be able to attract more students. The implications of the study informs both public ...

The case study design was non-experimental using a mixed methods approach. The data was collected from surveys, interviews, and classroom observations of monolingual and bilingual instructors (n=120) at a private university in Saudi Arabia. The survey and interview results showed bilingual instructors in favor of the bilingual method while monolingual instructors were not. Classroom observational data showed more incidents of student engagement recorded in the bilingual instruction compared to the classrooms where monolingual instruction took place. The implications of the study demonstrate the need for a policy change to allow bilingual instruction in the classroom and for preference given to the hiring of bilingual instructors as a means to facilitate student understanding of concepts in the classroom and in empowering second language acquisition of...

Vygotsky’s (1987) theory of concept development was used as a framework to categorize concepts and misconceptions resulting from evidences of preservice teacher knowledge including pre/post concept maps, writing artifacts, pre/post face-to-face interviews, examination results, and drawings. Statistical significances were found for pre- and post-concept map scores for dissolving (t = -5.773, p < 0.001) and density (t = -2.948, p = 0.005). As measured using Cohen’s d values, increases in mean scores showed a medium-large effect size for (dissolving) and a small effect size for density. The triangulated results using all data types revealed that preservice teachers held several robust misconceptions about dissolving including the explanation that dissolving is a breakdown of substances, a formation of mixtures, and/or involves chemical chang...

This concept paper highlights the problem of the lack of a unified Arab list of Bloom’s taxonomy ... more This concept paper highlights the problem of the lack of a unified Arab list of Bloom’s taxonomy to be used in teacher-preparation programs across Arab universities. The paper illustrates the current problem and offers steps needed for completing a project that would produce a unified list. The unified list would have both the required validity and reliability to be utilized by faculty across Arab teacher training colleges.
