The spread of counterfeit products in the market adds to information asymmetry. The study aims to examine factors influencing purchase intention of traditional handloom apparel that have Geographical Indication (GI) certification, which follows the certification procedure specified by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Design/methodology/approach A survey was conducted among 202 traditional handloom apparel consumers in India and the data was analysed using structural equation modelling. The purchase intention of GI certified handloom apparels was examined as the dependent variable, whereas quality consciousness, product diagnosticity, perceived information asymmetry were placed as independent variables. The mediating role of perceived quality and prod...

Presently, participation of women in fisheries related livelihood options is limited but there exists enormous potential for enhancing their participation. However, the attitude of women in self help groups (SHG) to initiate the entrepreneurial activity by investing their savings corpus or institutional finance utilising labour resources from among themselves is important. Location-specific and need-based training programmes for fisherwomen can enhance their level of awareness and technical know-how to start gainful employment ventures. These ventures can be taken up by fisherwomen SHGs taking advantage of participatory action to ensure earnings and sustainability. Micro-enterprises by women should not be seen only as a means for economic empowerment, but also can prove to be an important tool for social and political empowerment...

The cost of implementation of HACCP should be realized from the market price of products, which usuallyhappens in the case of export oriented units. Domestic fish marketing in India is constrained by inadequate infrastructurelimiting consumption to areas in the vicinity of landing centres. Even though the consumer is quality conscious, the low percapita income restricts access to high quality food items. This paper looks into the essential elements of implementation ofHACCP plan and its cost applicability in the seafood industry. Domestic quality control in seafood can be achieved byeconomic measures, rather than by adopting high cost international quality infrastructure. To achieve quality, measuresshould be adopted right from capture of fish to consumption stage.

The study identifies entrepreneurial training and microcredit as the contextual triggers that can be effective in creating entrepreneurial intentions and behaviour, respectively. Acquired learning helps to develop capability in an individual to identify the business opportunities around him, which help in creating entrepreneurial intention that can promote action. Microenterprises among low-income clients are usually formed by the support mechanism of triggering events. Shapero’s entrepreneurial event (SEE) model is used to capture the effects of microenterprise trainings that create entrepreneurial learning, leading to entrepreneurial intention and behaviour. The study also extends to capture the effect of microcredit as a moderator in effecting entrepreneurial behaviour among microfinance clients. The study finds that learning outcomes are capable of generating...

As the spread of Covid-19 is expected to continue for long, the continued usage of mobile-based payment services as a strategy to maintain social distancing has to prevail. Hence, this study aims to propose an integrated framework of mobile payments adoption and its continuance intention by integrating health belief model (HBM) and expectation confirmation model (ECM) of information system continuance. Design/methodology/approach The subject of the study constitutes new adopters of mobile payments. A total of 654 respondents participated in the survey. The conceptual model was empirically validated using structural equation modeling and serial mediation analysis. Findings The study found that the HBM constructs, namely, perceived severity, perceived susceptibility and self-efficacy significan...

The issue of women's limited control over resources has been discussed widely and there is need to develop micro-level interventions together with macro-level advocacy as a strategy to strengthen women's role in post-harvest activities and in preparing and marketing of value-added fish products. In marine fisheries, while high value species are mostly processed for export, most of the medium and low value species, which form bulk of the landings, are marketed fresh or processed for the domestic market. Women perform their tasks either at home or as labourers in commercial processing units. However, they fail to realise the benefits to support themselves as well as family. Location-specific and need-based training programmes for fisherwomen can enhance their technical know-how and awareness enabling them to start gainful employment ventures. The economic feasibility of fish based value added items by self help group (SHG) group micro-enterprises is discussed in this paper.
