The discourse on the concept of evil has developed throughout centuries of rigorous theological and philosophical debates. An attempt to understand and address the problem of evil has shaped the historical development of both moral and political theory. Addressing and identifying common themes throughout the history of ideas, both in the East and the West, may facilitate contemporary theorists in tackling new and arising threats to peace. The inherently conflictual nature of evil, the duality of good versus evil, and our inability to peacefully coexist, are unfortunate consequences of our collective diversity. Thus, an understanding of conflict and its resolution should begin with an attempt to understand the universally recognized concept of evil.

Despite the strides gained by the landmark decision of Brown v. Board of Education, the small rural community of Prince Edward County refused to integrate its public schools and eventually closed all public schools from 1959 until 1964. American Dogwood is the simple and tragic story of one boy, Nicholas Ordell Williams, Knick-Knack, robbed of his education during his most formative years. His story is told as a series of flashbacks to Marta Rodriguez, a young graduate student from New Jersey, collecting stories from the victims of America s segregated past. We follow Knick-Knack and four of his closest friends, Peanut, Milk, Glass-Face, and Petticoat through a deeply segregated south. The summer of 1959 would prove to be their last days of innocence, and their last taste of happiness before all possibility of hope was stripped from their lives.

The protest against HR 4437 culminated on May 1, 2006 (International Worker's Day) when nearly one million people peacefully protested within the streets. This book is a philosophical investigation of that protest and an account of a politics of discrimination.
