Methodology WUAs were assessed using questionnaire, direct observation and focus group discussion. Accordingly, WUAs were categorized into very poor, poor, average, good and very good. Findings The results indicate that technically and financially, WUAs in Gash Delta Agricultural Corporation are poor. Administratively, WUAs classified as average. The results also indicated that WUAs located in the upper spate system perform better than that located in the middle system. Originality/value The study was based on an innovative idea of giving stakeholders part in development of the assessment criteria as it is the first study assessing WUAs in Gash spate irrigation systems in Sudan.

Even in times of advanced site-specific genome editing tools, the improvement of DNA transposases... more Even in times of advanced site-specific genome editing tools, the improvement of DNA transposases is still on high demand in the field of transgenesis: especially in emerging model systems where evaluated integrase landing sites have not yet been created and more importantly in non-model organisms such as agricultural pests and disease vectors, in which reliable sequence information and genome annotations are still pending. In fact, random insertional mutagenesis is essential to identify new genomic locations that are not influenced by position effects and thus can serve as future stable transgene integration sites. In this respect, a hyperactive version of the most widely used piggyBac transposase (PBase) has been engineered. The hyperactive version (hyPBase) is currently available with the original insect codon-based coding sequence (hyPBase) as well as in a mammalian codon-optimized (hyPBase) version. Both facilitate significantly higher rates of transposition when expressed in m...

By tailoring the architecture to the algorithm, an efficient realization is achieved that supports two full duplex channels on a single chip in approximately one-half the chip area of the best reported DSP (digital signal processing) processor based solutions. Simulation of the architecture and its microcode passes all of the G.722 test vectors

Randomized complete block design was adopted in the two experimental sites in a factorial combination of 5 Rhizobia x 3 BMP x 4 replications x 2 times of sampling. Four Rhizobium strains were used throughout this study, these are cowpea strain, ENRRI 16A, USDA 5019 and TAL 169. BMP in the form of phosphobacterin and phosphorin were used. Rhizobium and BMP inoculation individually significantly ((P#0.05) increased nodulation, shoot, root and nodule dry weight per plant and phosphorus and nitrogen content of the shoot. In all parameters tested, in the two locations, cowpea strain was superior to other strains followed by strain ENRRI 16A, TAL 169 and USDA 5019 respectively. Phosphobacterin overweighed phosphorin in the two locati...

The information obtained is applied both in the deconvolution of surface seismic data and in the direct delineation of subsurface structure.

We use the embedding to develop a new quadratic lattice whitener with only scalar coefficients. The whitener is shown to be a linear lattice with a modified update equation. We demonstrate that scalar state dependent coefficients can be directly updated in this application, thus providing a very efficient nonlinear lattice structure. We describe lattice joint process estimator structures. For Gaussian inputs, we note that only some kernels of the series expansion describing the nonlinearity contribute to input eigenvalue spread. We suggest a reduced complexity escalator structure that exploits this finding. Finally we provide a simplification to the layered structure presented.

The internet is becoming increasingly heterogeneous with the advent and growth of diverse wireless access networks such as WiFi, 3G Cellular and WiMax. The provision of quality of service (QoS) for multimedia transport such as video traffic over such heterogeneous networks is complex and challenging. The quality of video transport depends on many factors; among the more important are network condition and transport protocol. Traditional transport protocols such as UDP/TCP lack the functional requirements to meet the QoS requirements of today's multimedia applications. Therefore, a number of improved transport protocols are being developed. SCTP and DCCP fall into this category. In this paper, our focus has been on evaluating SCTP and DCCP performance for MPEG4 video transport over heterogeneous (wired cum wireless) networks. The performance metrics used for this evaluation include throughput, delay and jitter. We also evaluated these measures for UDP in order to have a basis for comparison. Extensive simulations have been performed using a network simulator for video downloading and uploading. In this scenario, DCCP achieves higher throughput, with less delay and jitter than SCTP and UDP. Based on the results obtained in this study, we find that DCCP can better meet the QoS requirements for the transport of video streaming traffic.

This paper discusses IP Navigator, a form of IP switching developed specifically for use in core network backbones, such as Internet service provider networks and major corporate backbones. IP Navigator combines the high speed and quality of service capabilities of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) with the scalability and flexibility of IP. This paper presents a brief overview of the techniques that have been developed for operating IP over ATM. We outline the IP Navigator design and compare IP Navigator with other IP switching approaches.

Saturated fatty acids (SFA) constituted 46%. monoenoic acids (MONOENE) 33% and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) accounted for 21 % of total fatty acids. The mean value (1 8.28%) of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid was comparable to the levels reported for well-nourished mothers from industrialised countries. The proportions of fatty acids synthesised de novo in the mammary gland (10:0, 12:0, 14:O) were less than expected from published studies of mothers consuming low fat diet averaging 17.4%. The amount of 22:6 n-3 which is synthesised from 18:3 n-3 and also taken up by consumption of fish were found to be low. The possible nutritional implications of the low n-3 fatty acids for the infants should therefore be investigated. Essential fatty acids of both n-3 and n-6 series are required as precursors for the synthesis of prostaglandins and eicosanoids with important regulatory functions. Moreover, the long chain fatty acid 22:6 n-3 seems to play important nutritional and functional roles in the retina and the brain (Wheeler et al., 1975;

However, with the advent of VLSI, multiplier economics are considerably less formidable than before. The author proposes combining multipliers with these multiplication-free algorithms to construct fast methods of elementary function generation. He demonstrates the idea by combining multipliers with the

This study implemented parametric models new to this field to determine if a more appropriate HR dynamics modeling structure exists. The linear AR and autoregressive-moving average (ARMA) models, and the nonlinear polynomial autoregressive (PAR) and bilinear (BL) models were fit to instantaneous HR time series obtained from nine subjects in the supine position. Model orders were determined by the Akaike Information Criteria (AIC). Model residual variance was used as the primary intermodel comparison criterion, with significance evaluated by a chi 2 distributed statistic. The BL model best represented the HR dynamics, as its residual variance was significantly (p < 0.05) smaller than that of the corresponding AR model for nine out of nine data sets. In all cases, the BL model had a smaller residual variance than either the ARMA or PAR models. The bilinear model was ineffective at data forecasting, however, we show that this cannot reflect BL model validity because poor prediction is inherent to the BL model structure. The apparent superiority of the nonlinear bilinear model suggests that future heart rate dynamics studies should put greater emphasis on nonlinear analyses.
