Methods: Two studies were conducted. A literature review of studies reporting democratic culture instruments was undertaken. Six databases were used within the timeframe of between 2015 and 2020. Four specialists rated the derived items on clarity, relevance, and translation via the content validity coefficient (CVC). An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed with 225 individuals and the internal consistency was evaluated by Cronbach's alpha. Results: A set of 2,049 articles were obtained in the literature review. The content validity coefficient allowed us to gather 96 items. The EFA achieved a final multidimensional solution formed of 58 items in 6 correlated factors: Citizen Participation, Tolerance and Openness, Organizational Citizenship, Traditionalist Dogmatism, Individualism and Rebellion, and Punitive Authoritarianism. Cronbach's alpha ranged from .59 to .78. Conclusion: This article presented several procedures used to develop a new measure of democratic culture in organizations.

We start with the observation that we live in a time in which the themes of happiness or subjective well-being are politically projected with the help of statistics. Then, we propose an analysis of the rise of statistical research on subjective well-being departing from an historical scrutiny of the initiatives that sought to quantitatively investigate this issue. Methodologically, such an examination is done through a review of existing literature on the matter as well as an analysis of the materials provided by the institutions involved in our inquiry. Finally, we highlight the role of the OECD in the rise of statistical research on subjective well-being as an example of an epistemic community that exercises influence on the formation of the agenda of statistical production and political demand for indicators by mobilizing actors and networks of experts.

Our study starts with a thorough review of the theoretical and historical literature addressing the origins of these concepts to demonstrate that innovation barriers are intimately related to both the theoretical development of the innovation concept and its measurement as well as the policy-driven interest on innovation debates. The absence of a dominant epistemological paradigm in the field of Innovation Studies is arguably an important explanatory factor for the underuse of innovation indicators in policy decision-making which is in antithesis to the significant developments in the innovation measurement enterprise during

Therefore, the Sivis Institute developed the Local Democracy Index (LDI) project with the objective of measuring the quality of democracy in Brazilian cities in its various dimensions, but with special emphasis on culture and political participation. Based on this initiative, efforts were made to give new impetus to studies of local democracy in Brazil, which could offer new ways to overcome current democratic challenges. This paper presents the special issue based on the results of the application of the LDI in the city of São Paulo in 2019, exploring its implications for the state of participation and political culture in this municipality.

However, we do not know to what extent this is true in young democracies with an authoritarian tradition. Hence, this article aims to examine whether politically engaged Brazilians are more democratic. To do so, we analyzed whether there is any association between political participation, support for democracy, and democracy relativization through multivariate regression models. Our database comprises a representative sample of 2417 interviews with the electorate of São Paulo in 2019. The results show a statistically significant association between unconventional political participation and support for democracy. General political participation is associated with non-relativization of democracy only, showing a limited relationship between support for democracy and participation. Other variables, such as political interest, political knowledge, and interpersonal trust, are also associated with higher support for democracy.

In this context, one of the main concepts social scientists should consider to help tackling this crisis is vulnerability. This paper proposes a methodology to study vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic in the city of Curitiba, one of the main Brazilian metropolises. The proposed methodology encompasses three different strategies, in a mixed-methods approach: i. In-depth telephone interviews with vulnerable people and community leaders who work with them; ii. Online surveys with the city's general population; iii. Focus groups coupled with alternative scenarios methods involving key actors in the community life of the city. In addition to the research findings themselves, our methodology also envisages fostering initiatives by public authorities and civil society to mitigate the effects of the pandemic over vulnerable populations.
