This concept leverages substantially the current Internet model of end-to-end services. It also relies heavily on commodity commercial network and interface standards. This is contrasted with current mindset of point-to-point links that are often accompanied by proprietary access mechanisms and networking protocols. In order to realize the goal end-to-end services, each component of the entire communications architecture must be examined. Each component, or set of components, must be designed or optimized with the entire system in mind, or end-to-end services may not be possible. This presentation is in three parts. The first part describes the requirements for state-of-the-art ISS communications services. The second describes a commodity-based architecture to provide end-to-end services meeting the requirements previously defined. The final part outlines an implementation approach to achieve the goal of state-of-the-art ISS communications services. .
