The work focuses on types of waste recycled and methods of recycling waste. This study examines the factors that might influence recycling behavior of the households in Chwele, Bungoma County. The work was undertaken by administering questionnaires, interviews and observation. Reference will be drawn from case studies in other parts of the country.
Information on recycling activity, socio-economic characteristics, and attitudes of the households towards recycling will be obtained from interviews with 50 households in Chwele. The dominant factors for recycling behavior of households will be determined by Logistic regression analysis. Establishment of a recycling program could be an effective strategy in implementing sustainable waste management in Kenya. For this strategy to succeed, however, active partnership between households and the waste management service department is required.
The households' attitudes toward recycling should, therefore, be taken into consideration as should the results of this study, which are important indicators of households' positive attitudes toward sustainable waste management in Chwele. The purpose of the study is to understand the motivation of consumer participation in recycling activities and to show the reason why some residents cannot participate in recycling behavior. This study is devoted to examining the critical factors surrounding the recycling behavior. Qualitative data was collected, analyzed and has been presented in form of tables, graphs and statements.
