The expansion of the archaeological investigations carried out in 2016 has eventually made it pos... more The expansion of the archaeological investigations carried out in 2016 has eventually made it possible to clarify function and dating of the controversial “tubs of the Guà” which have turned out to be an extended agricultural recovery system, by means of burying river gravel, of a large oodplain affected by several events of over ow and ood of the Agno-Guà stream, such as a paroxysmal episode probably occurred in the second half of the nineteenth century.

As part of a research project shared since 2011 between the Soprintendenza, the Archaeological Gr... more As part of a research project shared since 2011 between the Soprintendenza, the Archaeological Group ARCA and the Department of Geosciences – University of Padua, three campaigns of archaeological survey and excavations have been conducted from 2012 to 2014 at Le Loppe, in the upper valley of the river Mis-Gosaldo (Belluno), known for the presence of ancient copper and iron mines, where archaeological evidence associated with metallurgical activities of modern age (XV-XVI cent.) has been found: in the " Roggia Est " area, a sequence of at least three mineral roasting pits; in the " Costa Fusina " area, on the left bank of the river Campotorondo, a rectangular building partially built into the hillside, with a main entrance on the south side and the accommodation for a small waterwheel. A short distance away was identified a " calchera " , a circular oven for baking limestone. Parole chiave: miniere, attività metallurgiche, arrostimento, scorie.
The archaeological site of Cesana was accidentally discovered in 2011 as a result of agricultural... more The archaeological site of Cesana was accidentally discovered in 2011 as a result of agricultural works in a private ground near the river Piave. The excavations, in 2013 and 2014, have brought to light a part of a settlement with walls, floors and contexts related to 4 different phases, dating back to the early Medieval age. In particular, the findings consist in a long perimetral wall – supported by a terracing wall – which includes some partitions, sections of limestone paving slabs, and a likely food oven, where most of the ceramic materials have been recovered. According to L. Bosio, at Cesana the Via Claudia Augusta crossed the river Piave, not far from the intersection with the road between Feltre and Belluno. Although there are no elements yet to establish a direct relationship between the structures and the river, it is undeniable that the location has been chosen for its close proximity to the river Piave.
