Childbirth education is important for mothers to build up the basic knowledge of newborn care. Learning more knowledge of childbirth would help to reduce postnatal depression in puerperal women. However, few studies have discussed technology-enhanced postnatal childbirth education, especially using mobile technology and effective learning strategies such as gaming in this important educational field. Therefore, in this study, a childbirth educational game was proposed to provide various gaming scenarios and childbirth learning materials. A quasi-experiment will be conducted to verify the effectiveness of the mobile gaming system. Eighty puerperal women will participate in this experiment and be divided into two groups to compare the proposed approach and the conventional childbirth education. It is expected that the proposed approach will enhance the learning achievement, learning perception, and technology acceptance, and reduce the degree of postnatal depression of puerperal women.

Engaging students in constructing their knowledge during real-world observation and inquiry-based... more Engaging students in constructing their knowledge during real-world observation and inquiry-based learning activities has been recognized as an important issue for improving students' learning achievement and motivation. However, researchers have indicated that due to a lack of effectively connection between observation in real-world and inquiry problems, it is a challenge to lead an effective outdoor inquiry-based learning activity. In this study, a progressive inquiry-based approach with augmented reality technology is proposed for improving students' high-level thinking and problem solving abilities by asking students to answer different layer of questions in in-field inquiry learning activities. An experiment will be conducted to evaluate its performance on high school geography courses. A total of 60 first-grade high school students from two classes will participant in this experiment. The students in the experimental group will learn with the progressive inquiry-based augmented reality system, while those in the control group will learn with the conventional AR contextual u-learning approaches. The students' learning achievements, learning attitudes, learning motivation, and problem solving ability will be investigated after the experiment. It is expected that the proposed approach will effectively enhance the students' learning achievement in comparison with the control group.

Neutrophil to lymphocyte platelet ratio (NLPR) was reported to be associated with the outcomes in many diseases. However, its relationship with IVIG resistance has not be explored. Methods The medical data of patients diagnosed with KD in Children’s Hospital of Soochow University between January 2019 and December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. Patients were trisected into three groups based on NLPR. Logistics regression was used to analyze the association between NLPR and IVIG resistance. Restricted cubic spine was used to exhibit the relationship. Sensitivity analysis and subgroup analysis were also carried out. To ensure that students participate in the activities of watching instructional videos at home, it is important to design an efficient learning strategy for students to learn at home and in class. In this study, we integrate the personalization mechanism into a flipped learning "Computer Science" course (n = 138) to improve students' engagement and learning achievements. Moreover, some studies have indicated that concept maps can help students to construct their knowledge. When students learn difficult chapters of Computer Science, they need to understand the structure. Therefore, after they have finished their personalization mechanism flipped learning, they have to draw a concept map of what they have learned on the system. More importantly, the personalization mechanism flipped learning system can record students' learning behavior and analyze it. Using the system records, we can investigate the different behaviors of the experimental group and the control group.

EFL (English as foreign language) students usually learn by rote when they study English grammar.... more EFL (English as foreign language) students usually learn by rote when they study English grammar. Students usually memorize all the grammar rules mechanically instead of learning grammar in a structured way. Researchers have also indicated that English anxiety has important effects on students' learning performance and their willingness to learn English grammar. Therefore, in this study, a two-stage grammar concept mapping-based collaborative English gaming approach has been developed. A quasi-experiment on an English course was carried out in an elementary school to evaluate students' learning achievement and English anxiety. Moreover, the students' learning behavioral patterns were explored by analyzing their interactive logs in the mobile discussion forum. The results indicated that the students using the proposed approach revealed significantly higher English grammar achievements than those who learned with the conventional gaming approach; moreover, the grammar concept mapping strategy can help the students with higher levels of English anxiety to have better learning achievements, and to realize the concept structure of English grammar to internalize their knowledge.

This paper purports to share with the higher education community the global PBL active learning c... more This paper purports to share with the higher education community the global PBL active learning curriculum and the learning environment, which have been collaboratively developed with the universities in Taiwan and Kansai University (KU). The collaborated universities developed an optimal curriculum to enhance and nurture students' "Future Work Skills 2020" defined by the Institute for the Future, such future human skills as Sense Making, Social Intelligence, Novel & Adaptive Thinking, Cross-Cultural Competencies, Computational Thinking, New Media Literacy, Transdisciplinarity, Design Mindset, Cognitive Load Management, and Virtual Collaboration. The curriculum fully employs PBL strategies in global teams, where teams for PBL are organized with students with heterogeneous cultural backgrounds in the virtual learning environment. The basic concept of such curriculum is based on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), originally developed by State University of New York. COIL makes full usage of IT to generate virtual learning environment for students worldwide. In order to go beyond the COIL concept incorporating the future skills defined by IFTF, the allied universities employed PBL in global AGILE teams to deepen insights from various cultural viewpoints in terms of consensus building through team discussions. Due to the spatial and temporal differences, enrolled students conducted their team learning activities in the virtual learning environment asynchronously, making use of IT technologies and cloud services in order to be on "the same page" in the progress of the project throughout the course. Further, the assessment strategies to enhance students' efficacy is the key factor in the course, which is also discussed with examples. This paper reports the global PBL active learning curriculum and environment collaboratively developed with the universities in Taiwan and Kansai University.

Although computer-supported collaborative learning has been successfully applied in educational s... more Although computer-supported collaborative learning has been successfully applied in educational settings to improve group learning performance, most such systems still lack effective strategies for knowledge representation which could help reduce discussion time. In this study, concept mapping, already applied as a tool to help visualize and organize existing or newly learned knowledge, is incorporated to address this problem in a newly developed concept map and computersupported collaborative learning system (CMCLS). It was designed as a quasi-experiment study and was carried out with 77 university students. The system was first used by the groups of students to illustrate their knowledge and achieve consensus during a learning activity, after which their performance and feelings of satisfaction with this innovative approach were evaluated. Patterns of learning within the proposed framework were explored. The learning behaviors, including the actions and interactions with peers of the participants during the learning activity were recorded. Finally, lag-sequential analysis was used to compare the interactions and the differences in the behavior patterns of the two groups, one using the newly developed CMCLS consensus mapembedded approach and a control group which did not use this approach. The results showed significant improvement in the learning achievement of students using the novel approach, as well as a higher degree of perceived usefulness and satisfaction. The novel consensus map-embedded approach was useful for knowledge construction and for assisting with integration of the team members' results to produce the final ER diagram.

In this study, an online formative peer-tutoring approach was proposed to cope with this problem, and an online learning system was developed accordingly. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, an experiment was conducted to explore its effects on students’ learning behaviors as well as their learning performance and perceptions of the mathematics course. The experimental results showed that both the formative and conventional peer-tutoring approaches significantly improved the students’ learning achievement as well as reduced their cognitive load in comparison with conventional online collaborative learning approaches. In addition, the learning behavior analysis results showed that the students playing the role of tutor in the formative peer-tutoring group revealed more appropriate behaviors of assisting their tutees via discussing with them and providing hints to them as well as guiding them to solve the mathematics problems, while the tutees were more willing to ask questions than those learning with the conventional peer-tutoring approach. This implies that the proposed approach could motivate both the tutors and tutees to become active learners with good learning conceptions.

Although we often approach gases in daily life, they are not observable with the naked eye. Thus, students may have numerous misperceptions when learning the properties and phenomena of gases. In this study, an augmented reality technique will be used to establish an interactive visualization Mind tools learning model that enables students to adjust the parameters of pressure and temperature, then they can observe the diversification inside the gases accordingly, thereby improving their learning performance. The experiment will be conducted in association with the teaching unit progress of gases in the 11th grade chemistry course. Two classes of students will be randomly assigned to the experimental and the control group. After conducting the experiment, an in-depth exploration of whether the learning model can effectively improve students' problem solving abilities and learning achievement will be measured.

Teachers encourage students to participate in the process of searching for knowledge, reorganizing the information they have found and evaluating their performance on different topics in web-based learning environment. In addition, self-regulation issue is always the crucial key to a successful WebQuest learning activity. In this study, we aimed to investigate that students' self-regulation ability will be encouraged in context-aware ubiquitous learning environment by situating the students and helping them to learn in the real world. WebQuest has seldom been applied to second-language course. Therefore, this study will conduct a WebQuest context-aware ubiquitous leaning activity for English course on the campus. Three language learning tasks will be conducted in the playground, resource recycling dump and library. The students in the experimental group will be asked to find knowledge of English teaching content and use this information to finish WebQuest learning task in the real environment, while the students in the control group will learn through general mobile English learning system. After finishing the learning activity, the students' learning performance will be evaluated accordingly.
With the popularity of the Internet, online searching is becoming an important part of learning. ... more With the popularity of the Internet, online searching is becoming an important part of learning. In this paper, based on the "Learning by Searching" theory, a learning environment is developed, which includes a search engine to assist students in recognizing the progression of trends and keyword transitions for specific domains. To efficiently support research trend surveys, an automatic data accumulation and classification approach is proposed to construct the database excerpts instead of manual keyword registration or any other heuristic preprocesses. With an associative search module, the search engine dynamically searches for relevant words that are frequently used in the targeted academic field, and provides learners with effective visualizations to understand the trend transitions. An experiment has been conducted on a college information management course to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The experiment results show that the students who learned with the new approach had significantly better learning performance in terms of recognizing the trend transitions of the targeted issues than those who learned with conventional search engines.

Teachers encourage students to participate in the process of searching for knowledge, reorganizing the information they have found and evaluating their performance on different topics in web-based learning environment. In addition, self-regulation issue is always the crucial key to a successful WebQuest learning activity. In this study, we aimed to investigate that students' self-regulation ability will be encouraged in context-aware ubiquitous learning environment by situating the students and helping them to learn in the real world. WebQuest has seldom been applied to second-language course. Therefore, this study will conduct a WebQuest context-aware ubiquitous leaning activity for English course on the campus. Three language learning tasks will be conducted in the playground, resource recycling dump and library. The students in the experimental group will be asked to find knowledge of English teaching content and use this information to finish WebQuest learning task in the real environment, while the students in the control group will learn through general mobile English learning system. After finishing the learning activity, the students' learning performance will be evaluated accordingly.
With the popularity of the Internet, online searching is becoming an important part of learning. ... more With the popularity of the Internet, online searching is becoming an important part of learning. In this paper, based on the "Learning by Searching" theory, a learning environment is developed, which includes a search engine to assist students in recognizing the progression of trends and keyword transitions for specific domains. To efficiently support research trend surveys, an automatic data accumulation and classification approach is proposed to construct the database excerpts instead of manual keyword registration or any other heuristic preprocesses. With an associative search module, the search engine dynamically searches for relevant words that are frequently used in the targeted academic field, and provides learners with effective visualizations to understand the trend transitions. An experiment has been conducted on a college information management course to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The experiment results show that the students who learned with the new approach had significantly better learning performance in terms of recognizing the trend transitions of the targeted issues than those who learned with conventional search engines.
