A MANET as used in the research is a physicsbased as well as a socio-technical system. As a socio-technical system (or human-machine system), multiple humans and multiple radios interact through some digital information connectivity. Thus, it is important to consider human behaviors in modeling and simulation of MANET systems in order to obtain useful performance metrics. It is observed that behavioral models are useful as MANETs seek to discover their neighbors through interconnection 1. REPORT DATE (DD-MM-YYYY

TCs, which are focused on life-saving and resuscitative actions in the treatment of trauma patients, engage many individuals in the solving of multifaceted and on-going ill-structured problems. The solutions to these problems are comprised of multiple human experts" resources that must collaborate to be effective in reducing complexity and providing information for systemic approaches to acute injury care. Understanding an emergency situation requires interdisciplinary and collaborative judgments, surgical decision-making in complex scenarios, hands on practical experience, and insight into difficult trauma situations. This paper addressed the application of collaborative sensemaking (CS) techniques to improve the decision making processes in TCs complex environments.

Since failures, repairs, and replacements are major contributors to life cycle costs, it has become apparent that Reliability, Availability, and Maintalnability (RAM) modeling techniques should be incorporated into LCC modeling. A variety of approaches to combining these techniques have appeared in the technical literature. This paper is a state-of-the art review of the literature pertaining to availabillty-based life cycle cost analysis.

Given F(/) , we can generate a random variate that is governed by the probability density function, f(l). The inverse transformation method offers a simpie, straightforward approach to this problem. We demonstrate the efficacies of an agent-based modeling and the need for developing formal methods for multi-agent simulations from a system of systems (SoS) perspective. The development of our model framework informs the need to describe behaviors and relationships of actors and objects in the context of a mission space, and 2) to provide a foundation for modeling agent behaviors in a way that is plausible with respect to human behavior, a specially from the standpoint of human-system interactions.

Not only will this data be more accurate, it will be collected and transmitted in near real-time. Advanced displays must be developed that allow commanders to efficiently deal with large volumes of data so that effective decisions can be made in a timely manner. This paper describes an experiment comparing three methods of displaying battlefield resources and unit mobility: (1) a combination of alphanumerics and standard Army decision graphics, (2) a configural display (CD) representation, and (3) an associative configural display representation (ACD). Results indicate that performance benefits are realized from both the CD and ACD representations, but the CD proved to be the best overall.

Abstract : Capturing information for performance modeling of the human aspect of C2 performance c... more Abstract : Capturing information for performance modeling of the human aspect of C2 performance can be difficult and time consuming. Usually, a parametric approach is favored, but overall, technology performance is used to calibrate performance. It is difficult to determine or assess the aspects of human performance in the technologically driven C2 systems. This paper presents a novel approach using a qualitative evaluation metric based on fundamental matrix algebra. It is assumed that the performance of C2 to be achieved can be speculated by the commanders based on units to be commissioned and technological capabilities of the units. The ACAD software which allows commanders to simulate courses of action planning based on battle assets is used to demonstrate the model efficacy. The model illustrates the composite measure of C2 based on mission, as well as unit effectiveness based on the expectations of the higher command.

One of the many problems associated with this is the determination of the shape parameter. In this short note, a heuristic approximation is used to derive the value of gamma shape parameter for a general case (integer or real).

The architecture is conceptualized for real-time environment with command and control (C2) tasks operating synchronously. We demonstrate the application in a mining teleoperation domain.

The principal intend of this section is to present ideas, concerns, and frameworks for the design... more The principal intend of this section is to present ideas, concerns, and frameworks for the design of effective systems with which the human can interact. The issue of complexity—both in artificial and human systems is well known. For example, take a human and consider the fact that his or her behaviors, moods, attitudes, perception, and habits are constantly changing. According to Skinner (1965), all those aforementioned are elemental characteristics of the human behavior, often operating unconsciously, and, although they may appear simple, when summed together can be formidably complex. It can be said that in general human designers conceive artificial systems from a simple physical model of a molar object; and so, a) a simple structure of the object is built; b) some functions are added; and c) operational intelligence is conceived and added to the object. Often, by the time the design is completed, the object becomes so gigantic that even the designer may become ignorant of how to interact with the object—at least, to interact in “a friendly manner”.

From cognitive engineering perspective, methods for decomposing complex maintenance problems are developed. The "methods" are represented as intelligent diagnostic agents for use in a system level maintenance reasoning. Sample simulation results show that cognitive engineering driven diagnostic reasoning has higher performance reliability than the traditional rule-based (simulation) diagnostic systems.

These systems are conceptualized, and designed for specialized domain applications. They are inherently populated with well defined and articulated goals, and their reasoning strategies are formulated around intentions of the human experts. Like their human counter parts, they can “err”. This paper takes the first step to summarize the sources of errors in these systems.

The dynamic action theory utilizes the constructive concepts of Recognition-Primed Decision (RPD) making, mental simulation and introspection to develop a computational framework for decision aiding in a dynamic system. The theory incorporates methodologies for belief disposition and rehearsals during problem solving. Planning and goalattainment are based on a structured, heterocyclical means-ends paradigm. This concept supports the non-linear behavior of human mental processes.

Change, in some aspect, involves a learning process. To understand this phenomenon, it is proposed that for a change to take place, the value content knowledge base, the loci of value dimensions, and the characteristics of the organization must be perceived as a positive congruence along the trajectory of the organization goal and the shareholder's aspirations. Using a value-based questionnaire, we examined these attributes. The result showed that the FUTURE-based higher education management paradigm typifies all the attributes of a learning organization. The stakeholders showed positive agreement with the notional value system with the willingness to embrace the organization values.
