Davide Bruni
Mi chiamo Davide e sono nato a Milano. Ho sempre amato il passato. All’inizio furono i dinosauri e il Medio Evo, poi a nove anni vidi un film di Indiana Jones e decisi che avrei fatto l’archeologo. Da allora non ho più cambiato idea.
Nel corso di una vacanza archeologica all’età di dieci anni, ricordo che passai un intero pomeriggio a “lavorare” assieme all’archeologa del campo alla stesura di un articolo sulle varie fasi di scavo per il giornalino che sarebbe stato distribuito a tutti i partecipanti. Tutti gli altri bambini lo trascorsero invece a giocare.
Mi sono diplomato al Liceo Classico Statale G. Berchet di Milano. All’Università degli Studi di Milano ho conseguito una laurea triennale in Scienze dei Beni Culturali con indirizzo Archeologico e successivamente una laurea magistrale in Archeologia. In quegli stessi anni ho partecipato ad alcune campagne di scavo in Italia e in Grecia.
Sono profondamente interessato a tutti gli aspetti storici, archeologici, numismatici, epigrafici, culturali, militari, letterari… insomma a ogni cosa che riguardi l’antichità e in particolare il mondo greco-romano.

As correctly stated by Imhoof-Blumer the monogram of these coins (NEA-) has to refer to a polis or a ruler.
In the first case, maybe more likely than the second, I believe that the most appropriate Cretan situation not in Crete for the Hellenistic period can be found in a military colony with a strong presence of Cretan mercenaries or, at most, in a pre-existing city in which, due to political upheavals, they were imposed for a certain period.
In the second case, the only identifiable person and, moreover perfectly adherent to the elements of the coinage, is the famous Nearchus of Crete, even if after his last known presence on the stage of Great History .
They had previously been published between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, but quickly and without a precise attribution.
Through the analysis of all available data (including those that can be obtained from specimens recently sold in auctions - where has also appeared a new type), mainly iconographic but not only, I tried to identify spatial and temporal contexts and the issuing authority of these fascinating coins, which have a very close relationship with the island of Crete.
