However, IR per se is already present in some patients scheduled for elective surgery. Data on the safety of preoperative oral carbohydrate loading in patients with IR undergoing surgery is lacking. We aimed to evaluate the effects of preoperative carbohydrate loading on the glucometabolic state and gastric content of patients with and without IR. Methods: Thirty-four non-diabetics received 800 mL of a special carbohydrate-containing drink on the evening before the operation and then 400 mL 2 h before surgery. Blood samples for glucose, insulin, and cortisol levels were taken immediately before the second dose, at 40 and 90 min after intake of the drink, and at the onset of surgery. Patients with a homeostasis model assessment IR score Ͼ2.5 were considered to have IR. The differences between patients with and without IR were then evaluated. Results: Eight of the 34 patients had IR and the remaining 26 did not. Glucose levels in the IR group were higher than those in the non-IR group, but the differences did not reach significance. The initially elevated insulin concentrations then tended to decrease to the corresponding levels detected in the non-IR group. The cortisol concentrations were similar in both groups. Conclusion: Patients with IR receiving a carbohydrate-rich drink before surgery appear not to be affected adversely by the beverage. Furthermore, they also obtain the probable beneficial effects related to these drinks and, like patients without IR, can undergo surgery safely.

MNA was done in two ways: first exclusively with the help of the residents (MNAr), then in cooperation with the nursing staff (MNAn). In addition a blood sample was drawn. Results: The residents showed the following characteristics: 147 female, 53 male, age 85.6±7.8 years, BMI 26.2±5.3 kg/m 2 (mean value ± SD), serum-albumin <3.5 g/dl in 69.9%, >3.5 g/dl in 30.1%. Applicability was 69.0% for MNAr, 93.5% for MNAn, 98.5% for MUST and 99% for NRS. With regard to the most relevant category the following results were shown: "Malnourished" by MNAr in 15.2%, by MNAn in 15.5%, "high risk" by MUST in 8.6% and "risk of malnutrition" by NRS in 8.6% of the residents. Analysis by contingency table showed that 16 residents who were identified as "malnourished" by MNAn were categorized as "low risk" by MUST and six from the MNA "malnourished" group were assigned to the "no risk" by NRS. When comparing the results of MNAr with those of MNAn a close match was found for the individual subject. Conclusion: The evaluation of nutritional status in nursing home residents by MNA, MUST and NRS showed significant differences. The NRS may not be appropriate in this setting as it was originally developed in hospital patients and as acute morbidity is mostly absent in nursing home residents. The same argument applies to the MUST with regard to its component "acutely ill/no intake". At present the MNA has to be regarded as the most valuable screening tool in nursing homes.

Conclusion: These results imply that functional effects of disturbances in body composition are not only dependent on the FFMI but also on other body compartments.

Frequently, the patients ask to diet related to their diseases and want to do nutrition regulation. Indeed, in some of dermatological diseases, the dietary treatment causes a substantial improvement in symptoms of the disease, while sometimes certain foods can cause exacerbations of the symptoms of the diseases. Especially to avoid its side effects, it is necessary to make diet arrangements about some of the drugs commonly used in dermatology. In this review, the dietary treatment for common diseases in dermatology practice and for frequently used drugs will be discussed.

Bireyler ve Yöntem: Araştırma Türkiye Diyetisyenler Derneği üyesi diyetisyenler ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katılımcılara gönderilen elektronik anket formu ile Sağlık Anksiyetesi Ölçeği (SAÖ), Koronavirüs Anksiyetesi Ölçeği Kısa Formu (KAÖ) ve Sağlıklı Beslenmeye Duyulan Aşırı Duyarlı Tutum Ölçeği (ORTO-15) uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya 451’i kadın ve 65’i erkek toplam 516 diyetisyen katılmıştır. Kadın ve erkek diyetisyenlerde SAÖ medyan puanları sırasıyla 33 ve 31’dir (p=0.038).
