Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most important leguminous crop widely grown from Terai... more Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most important leguminous crop widely grown from Terai to high hills of Nepal covering 10,529 hectare land producing 15550 mt with the productivity of 1477 kgha-1 and Jumla occupies almost 21% of the total bean cultivated area of the country. For the experiment, twelve genotypes of common bean were collected from different locations of Nepal. The experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station Vijayanagar, Jumla Nepal from July, 2016 to October, 2016 in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications and twelve treatments. Economics of production and marketing of fish in Dang district of Nepal

A study was carried out to analyze the economics of fish production and marketing in Dang distric... more A study was carried out to analyze the economics of fish production and marketing in Dang district of Nepal. Structured survey was done with 75 respondents (45 producers, 5 wholesalers, 10 retailers, and 15 consumers) in three different sites of Dang district (viz: Lamahi Municipality, Rapti Rural Municipality and Gadhawa Rural Municipality). The initial investment, cost of production and returns, production function, price spread, and marketing margin, and ranking of production and marketing problems of fish were done by index ranking techniques. Financial analysis showed that the total initial investment per hectare of fish pond was found to be NRs. 968,394 with the annual production cost of NRs. 693,483. The total return was found to be NRs. 932,088 and net profit realized per hectare was NRs. 238,604. Out of total cost, about 73.70% was variable cost and the remaining 26.30% was fixed cost. Of the total variable cost, the cost of feed (58.63%) was significantly higher followed by the cost of fingerlings (12.94%), labor (11.37%), manure and fertilizer cost (8.33%) fuel/ energy (4.46%) and maintenance cost (4.27%), respectively. The benefit cost ratio (B/C ratio) was found to be 1.82 which implies that the fish enterprise was found to be profitable in the study area. The research also revealed that the producer's share was 78.17% with price spread of 71.57 and marketing efficiency of 90.81%. The value sum of the estimated parameters associated with all the inputs was 0.52 which indicates the decreasing return to scale. Lack of technological know-how and unavailability of inputs on time are the major production problems. Inefficient price information system and competition with the Indian fish are the major marketing problems. Thus, for sustainable production and marketing of fish government should focus primarily on technological dissemination and better pricing policy.

25 accessions of finger millet, 20 from Parbat and 5 from Khotang, were experimented at nursery s... more 25 accessions of finger millet, 20 from Parbat and 5 from Khotang, were experimented at nursery stage in randomized complete block design at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS), Rampur, Chitwan from July 2015 to September 2015 to identify the resistance response against seedling blast. Inoculation was done by piling up of diseased leaves in trenches between the beds. Ten plants from each plot were tagged randomly and disease severity was assessed by scoring on a 0-9 scale for 4 times at 6 days interval from 22 days after sowing (DAS) onwards. Dry root and shoot weights of the tagged plants were measured on 43 DAS to access plant biomass. Three accessions failed to geminate. Final disease severity was found to be highest in NGRC05161 (58.5%) and lowest in NGRC05146 (39.3%). Based on total AUDPC, NGRC05143 (664) was found to be least susceptible to seedling blast while NGRC05164 (895) was most susceptible.
