Darrell has a community service-minded career that has spanned local, municipal, county, national and international employment. Starting out as an Eagle Scout in the LA area, he has incrementally increased the level of region in each successive effort: San Diego city and then county as an economic research, national service as a management consultant and federal civil service, international service as an analyst in international banks and insurance companies. Darrell has most recently completed a Masters degree in Politics, and is working on his dissertation about different models of foreign assistance and their effect on sovereignty.

The politics of the Trans-Pacific Partnership circled the ambivalent perception by the public of ... more The politics of the Trans-Pacific Partnership circled the ambivalent perception by the public of the impacts of trade on sovereignty. That the deal was not called a trade agreement reinforced this ambiguity. This paper reviews specifically how dispute settlement procedures remove sovereignty from juridical accountability of the state and offers them to international law. How does trade impact sovereignty? Which groups spoke for and against the deal and why? What are the impacts for US foreign policy towards international trade? The paper's thesis is that trade expansion will survive populist movements because current trade agreement structure attempts to reduce government involvement in private market transactions.

Prior to this document, critics of liberalism insisted that liberalism does not comport with all cultures or nationalities and could not be universalized. Yet having passed the United Nation’s General Assembly without a single vote against, the authors of this document seemed to have accomplished the impossible. How did they meet their critics and win them over? This paper reviews arguments made during the drafting process that illuminate both the key struggles and hard fought solutions that answer that question.
