The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different level of nitrogen and phosphorus... more The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different level of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth and yield of Spinach (Spinacea oleracea L.) cv. All Green" during Rabi season of the year 2019-2020 on experimental farm of Department of Horticulture, AKS University, Satna (M.P.). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design comprising of 12 treatments each replicated three times. Each replication was further divided into plots and a total of 36 plots were laid out. The seeds were sown with a spacing of 20cm x 10 cm. Treatments were randomly arranged in each replication, divided into twelve plots. Application of nitrogen 80 kg/ha and phosphorus 40 kg/ha has shown the significant improvement in growth and yield parameters than other treatments. The treatment recorded the plant height, number of leaves per plant, length of leaves, Leaf width, Leaf area, Root length, Leaf: Root ratio, Fresh weight of leaves with Yield kg /ha in spinach were found to be highest in the treatments soil application with nitrogen 80 kg/ha and phosphorus at a rate of 40 kg/ha is congruent in rabi session.

Consequently, the cultivation of commercial fruit crops is increasingly reliant on inputs to mitigate losses attributed to biotic and a biotic stress. Concurrently, a diverse array of underutilized crops, predominantly cultivated, commercialized and consumed locally, emerges as a viable alternative. These underutilized fruits exhibit notable advantages in terms of cultivation feasibility, resilience to climatic variations and nutritional richness compared to major commercially grown counterparts. Moreover, they boast an abundance of essential phytochemicals and possess medicinal properties. Consequently, integrating these fruits into local diets holds promise for addressing the nutritional deficiencies prevalent among rural populations inhabiting fragile arid and semi-arid regions globally. Additionally, local communities possess profound knowledge regarding the nutritional and medicinal attributes of these crops, emphasizing the imperative for rigorous investigation into their conservation and nutritional profiles. This review delves into the ethno botanical significance, medicinal and nutritional values, biodiversity conservation and utilization strategies of 20 underutilized fruit crops prevalent in Bundelkhand region of India. These include Indian jujube, Indian gooseberry, lasora, bael, kair, karonda, tamarind, wood apple, fig, custard apple, jamun, jharber, mahua, pilu, khejri, mulberry, chironji, manila tamarind, timroo and khirni, collectively enriching the spectrum of available foods with enhanced functional and nutritional attributes.

The comparative studies on compositional changes in value added kinnow – aonla blended beverages ... more The comparative studies on compositional changes in value added kinnow – aonla blended beverages such as RTS and squash revealed that there was increase in level of TSS and acidity with decrease in pH, ascorbic acid and organoleptic parameters was observed during storage period (eight months). The concept of formulation of kinnow and aonla mix beverage with three levels of each cardamom and ginger as herbal additives. All the herbal treatments were found better in respect of TSS, pH, acidity and ascorbic acid content over control. Among the beverages, kinnow – aonla squash recorded significantly the highest TSS, acidity and ascorbic acid. All the sensory parameters except color, texture, taste and overall acceptability declined significantly during storage period (eight months). Based on the overall acceptability kinnow – aonla blended beverages such as RTS and squash the ginger added treatments was the most acceptable, but was slightly costlier as compared to cardamom based treatments.

The experiment was conducted on 15 genetically different genotypes under Allahabad agroclimatic c... more The experiment was conducted on 15 genetically different genotypes under Allahabad agroclimatic condition. It was laid out in Randomized Block Design with 3 replications. It was observed that 9904 genotype was found superior in term of seed yield per plant. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the traits. Heritability in broad sense was noticed high for all the traits except test weight (1000seeds) higher genetic advance was observed for plant height. High genetic advance as percent of mean was found in number of seeds per umbel. The traits like plant height, primary branches per plant, number of umbels per plant, number of umbellates per umbel, umbel diameter, number of seeds per umbel and test weight (1000-seeds) showed positive significant correlation with seed yield per plant at phenotypic and genotypic level. Number of seeds per umbel exhibited the highest positive direct effect at genotypic level.

The investigation was laid out in RBD with three replications. There were 20 genotypes wide variation was observed among the genotypes for all traits. Results revealed that the genotype cv. Agrifound Dark Red resulted in higher yield, better size of Bulb and stand promising for cultivation under agro-economic condition of Uttar Pradesh. The maximum heritability percent was reported for Length of Leaves and Diameter of Bulb (0.96) followed by Plant Height (0.96). High genetic advance was reported for Dry Weight of Bulb (22.77) followed by Fresh Weight of Bulb (22.65), however the maximum genetic advance as percent of mean was reported for Diameter of Bulb (49.87) and Dry Weight of Bulb (40.50). High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for fresh weight and dry weight. Bulb have positive significant correlation with fresh weight and dry weight both phenotypic and genotypic level. There for these characters should be given priority cheekily during selection for genetic improvement of onion. Maximum yield of onion, gross return, net return and cost: benefit ratio (1:10.76) were obtained in the Agri Found Light Red.

There were ten post har vest treat ments—Bavistin (0%), (0.1%) and (2%) and Wax (0%), (6%) and (8%), and one stor age con di tion i.e (Room tem per a ture). Name of chem i cal use – Their ef fects were ac cessed by com plete ran dom ized de sign with three rep li ca tions. The treated fruits of guava were stored at room tem per a ture. There was de crease in vi ta min C (mg) and acid ity dur ing stor age pe riod of guava fruit un der room tem per a ture. The in crease in TSS and juice pH and phys i o log i cal loss in weight of fruit was noticed in stor age pe riod ir re spec tive of post har vest treat ment and room tem per a ture. All the treat ments were found better in re spect of TSS & ascor bic acid con tent over con trol. On the ba sis of re sults ob tained the treat ment com bi na tion T4 (Waxol 6% + Bavistin 0.2%) proved to be the best in terms of fruit qual ity and better shelf life at room tem per a ture.

This study aimed at formulation of Kinnow and aonla mix beverage with three levels of each cardamom and ginger as herbal additives. All the herbal treatments were found better in respect of TSS, pH, acidity and ascorbic acid content over control. Highest mean TSS (15.13°Brix), pH (3.50) and ascorbic acid content (19.4%) were observed in T5 (ginger extract 1%), all the sensory parameters were as based on the overall acceptability based on colour, texture and taste were recorded highest (7.78 score) in T5. Precisely, on the basis of results obtained it may be concluded that treatment T5 can be used in commercialization of Kinnow-aonla RTS. The studies on compositional changes in value-added Kinnow-aonla RTS revealed that there was increase in the level of TSS and pH during the storage period (six months).

To estimate the combining ability, fourteen tomato genotypes were crossed in Line ×Tester fashion... more To estimate the combining ability, fourteen tomato genotypes were crossed in Line ×Tester fashion to develop 33 hybrids, which along with their parents and check were evaluated for earliness, fruit yield and quality of tomato to know extent of combining ability for the same. The lines P-7 (-4.990) and P-8 (-2.990) were found to be the best general combiner with significant highest GCA (General Combining Ability) in desirable direction for days to 50% flowering while P-4, for days to first ripening (-6.47) and P-6 (170.80) for number of fruits per plant was best general combiner. Line P-3 exhibited significant GCA in desirable positive direction for average ten fruit weight (11.08), total soluble solid (0.60) and fruit texture (0.76). In case of yield per plant the lines P-10 (0.61) and P-11 (0.43) showed positive significant GCA while, P-5 for flesh thickness and to be consider as good general combiner. The tester P-13 (mutant) was a best general combiner for traits like days to first ripening (-4.77), numbers of fruits per plant (127.60) and Total soluble solid (0.27), whereas, P-12 was found best general combiner for numbers of fruits per plant (126.15) and fruit texture (0.14). Among the crosses, cross P3 x P12 (-5.10) showed the maximum desired negative SCA followed by P1 x P14 (-4.01) for days to 50% flowering. In the respect of days to first ripening the cross P4 x P13 was noted as desired negative significant SCA (-3.32). The crosses viz., P-4 × P-14 (9.74), P-1 × P-14 (6.71) and P-7 × P-12 (6.52) were found to be superior specific combiners for fruit yield per plant. Cross P-8 × P-14 was a superior specific combiner for fruit quality traits like flesh thickness (0.75), total soluble solid (1.06) and texture (0.28). On the basis of superior GCA and SCA for earliness, yield and quality of the crop, suitable genotypes may be identified which can be used in further breeding programs.

The parameters like TSS, acidity, pH, ascorbic acid and optical density were analyzed before the segment impregnation into sugar, so that after product preparation the values may be evaluated as the impact of variety, honey and storage duration. Cultivars yielded significant results with the parameters studied. This was further influenced when prepared aonla candy were coated with honey. Amongst varieties NA-6 proved much better with respect quality parameter studied. There was increase in the level of total soluble solids, acidity and browning and decrease in pH, ascorbic acid, and organoleptic taste during storage. The highest TSS was recorded in NA-6 (76.7%) and the lowest value was (75.9%) in Kanchan at 90 days of storage. Acidity was recorded highest in Kanchan (0.68%) and the lowest (0.58%) in NA-6 after 90 days of candy storage. The maximum pH (4.28) was observed in Krishna, while the minimum (4.23) was NA-6. The highest ascorbic acid (102.15 mg/100 g) was recorded in NA-6 and the lowest was (90.10 mg/100 g) with Kanchan. The highest browning was found (0.14 OD) in Kanchan and the same OD value (0.13 OD) was recorded in NA-6, NA-7 and Krishna. The organoleptic quality was best (7.19 score) in NA-6 at 90 days of storage. All the qualitative parameters were significantly superior with honey coated candy as compared to cane sugar prepared candy.

The studies on compositional changes in value-added aonla products such as aonla jam revealed that there was increase in the level of TSS and ascorbic acid during the storage period (eight months). The design was used CRD with ten treatment combations. The NA-7 cultivar was purposively selected for the study because it has higher recovery with ease in availability of commerce. Fully developed sound aonla fruits were selected. Small pieces of cashew at 100 gram were mix in aonla jam. Three levels each of tulsi, cardamom and ginger were used as herbal additives. All the herbal treatments were found to be better in respect of TSS and ascorbic acid content over control. Highest mean TSS (69.26%) and ascorbic acid content (102.65%) were observed in T 9 (ginger powder a 150 gram). All the sensory parameters were based on the overall acceptability which was depended on color, texture, flavor and taste was recorded highest (8.33 score) in T 8 (ginger powder at 100 gram), Precisely, on the basis of results obtained it may be concluded that treatment T 8 (ginger powder at 100 gram) can be used in commercialization of aonla herbal jam with granulated particles of cashew preparation. This recipe may also be advocated for safe storage at ambient temperature upto 8 months.

Consequently, integrating these fruits into local diets holds promise for addressing the nutritional deficiencies prevalent among rural populations inhabiting fragile arid and semi-arid regions globally. Additionally, local communities possess profound knowledge regarding the nutritional and medicinal attributes of these crops, emphasizing the imperative for rigorous investigation into their conservation and nutritional profiles. This review delves into the ethno botanical significance, medicinal and nutritional values, biodiversity conservation and utilization strategies of 20 underutilized fruit crops prevalent in Bundelkhand region of India. These include Indian jujube, Indian gooseberry, lasora, bael, kair, karonda, tamarind, wood apple, fig, custard apple, jamun, jharber, mahua, pilu, khejri, mulberry, chironji, manila tamarind, timroo and khirni, collectively enriching the spectrum of available foods with enhanced functional and nutritional attributes.

The concept of formulation of kinnow and aonla mix beverage with three levels of each cardamom and ginger as herbal additives. All the herbal treatments were found better in respect of TSS, pH, acidity and ascorbic acid content over control. Among the beverages, kinnow – aonla squash recorded significantly the highest TSS, acidity and ascorbic acid. All the sensory parameters except color, texture, taste and overall acceptability declined significantly during storage period (eight months). Based on the overall acceptability kinnow – aonla blended beverages such as RTS and squash the ginger added treatments was the most acceptable, but was slightly costlier as compared to cardamom based treatments.

It was laid out in Randomized Block Design with 3 replications. It was observed that 9904 genotype was found superior in term of seed yield per plant. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the traits. Heritability in broad sense was noticed high for all the traits except test weight (1000seeds) higher genetic advance was observed for plant height. High genetic advance as percent of mean was found in number of seeds per umbel. The traits like plant height, primary branches per plant, number of umbels per plant, number of umbellates per umbel, umbel diameter, number of seeds per umbel and test weight (1000-seeds) showed positive significant correlation with seed yield per plant at phenotypic and genotypic level. Number of seeds per umbel exhibited the highest positive direct effect at genotypic level.

The investigation was laid out in RBD with three replications. There were 20 genotypes wide variation was observed among the genotypes for all traits. Results revealed that the genotype cv. Agrifound Dark Red resulted in higher yield, better size of Bulb and stand promising for cultivation under agro-economic condition of Uttar Pradesh. The maximum heritability percent was reported for Length of Leaves and Diameter of Bulb (0.96) followed by Plant Height (0.96). High genetic advance was reported for Dry Weight of Bulb (22.77) followed by Fresh Weight of Bulb (22.65), however the maximum genetic advance as percent of mean was reported for Diameter of Bulb (49.87) and Dry Weight of Bulb (40.50). High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for fresh weight and dry weight. Bulb have positive significant correlation with fresh weight and dry weight both phenotypic and genotypic level. There for these characters should be given priority cheekily during selection for genetic improvement of onion. Maximum yield of onion, gross return, net return and cost: benefit ratio (1:10.76) were obtained in the Agri Found Light Red.

The in crease in TSS and juice pH and phys i o log i cal loss in weight of fruit was noticed in stor age pe riod ir re spec tive of post har vest treat ment and room tem per a ture. All the treat ments were found better in re spect of TSS & ascor bic acid con tent over con trol. This study aimed at formulation of Kinnow and aonla mix beverage with three levels of each cardamom and ginger as herbal additives. All the herbal treatments were found better in respect of TSS, pH, acidity and ascorbic acid content over control. Highest mean TSS (15.13°Brix), pH (3.50) and ascorbic acid content (19.4%) were observed in T5 (ginger extract 1%), all the sensory parameters were as based on the overall acceptability based on colour, texture and taste were recorded highest (7.78 score) in T5. Precisely, on the basis of results obtained it may be concluded that treatment T5 can be used in commercialization of Kinnow-aonla RTS. The studies on compositional changes in value-added Kinnow-aonla RTS revealed that there was increase in the level of TSS and pH during the storage period (six months).

To estimate the combining ability, fourteen tomato genotypes were crossed in Line ×Tester fashion... more To estimate the combining ability, fourteen tomato genotypes were crossed in Line ×Tester fashion to develop 33 hybrids, which along with their parents and check were evaluated for earliness, fruit yield and quality of tomato to know extent of combining ability for the same. The lines P-7 (-4.990) and P-8 (-2.990) were found to be the best general combiner with significant highest GCA (General Combining Ability) in desirable direction for days to 50% flowering while P-4, for days to first ripening (-6.47) and P-6 (170.80) for number of fruits per plant was best general combiner. Line P-3 exhibited significant GCA in desirable positive direction for average ten fruit weight (11.08), total soluble solid (0.60) and fruit texture (0.76). In case of yield per plant the lines P-10 (0.61) and P-11 (0.43) showed positive significant GCA while, P-5 for flesh thickness and to be consider as good general combiner. The tester P-13 (mutant) was a best general combiner for traits like days to first ripening (-4.77), numbers of fruits per plant (127.60) and Total soluble solid (0.27), whereas, P-12 was found best general combiner for numbers of fruits per plant (126.15) and fruit texture (0.14). Among the crosses, cross P3 x P12 (-5.10) showed the maximum desired negative SCA followed by P1 x P14 (-4.01) for days to 50% flowering. In the respect of days to first ripening the cross P4 x P13 was noted as desired negative significant SCA (-3.32). The crosses viz., P-4 × P-14 (9.74), P-1 × P-14 (6.71) and P-7 × P-12 (6.52) were found to be superior specific combiners for fruit yield per plant. Cross P-8 × P-14 was a superior specific combiner for fruit quality traits like flesh thickness (0.75), total soluble solid (1.06) and texture (0.28). On the basis of superior GCA and SCA for earliness, yield and quality of the crop, suitable genotypes may be identified which can be used in further breeding programs.

The parameters like TSS, acidity, pH, ascorbic acid and optical density were analyzed before the segment impregnation into sugar, so that after product preparation the values may be evaluated as the impact of variety, honey and storage duration. Cultivars yielded significant results with the parameters studied. This was further influenced when prepared aonla candy were coated with honey. Amongst varieties NA-6 proved much better with respect quality parameter studied. There was increase in the level of total soluble solids, acidity and browning and decrease in pH, ascorbic acid, and organoleptic taste during storage. The highest TSS was recorded in NA-6 (76.7%) and the lowest value was (75.9%) in Kanchan at 90 days of storage. Acidity was recorded highest in Kanchan (0.68%) and the lowest (0.58%) in NA-6 after 90 days of candy storage. The maximum pH (4.28) was observed in Krishna, while the minimum (4.23) was NA-6. The highest ascorbic acid (102.15 mg/100 g) was recorded in NA-6 and the lowest was (90.10 mg/100 g) with Kanchan. The highest browning was found (0.14 OD) in Kanchan and the same OD value (0.13 OD) was recorded in NA-6, NA-7 and Krishna. The organoleptic quality was best (7.19 score) in NA-6 at 90 days of storage. All the qualitative parameters were significantly superior with honey coated candy as compared to cane sugar prepared candy.

The studies on compositional changes in value-added aonla products such as aonla jam revealed that there was increase in the level of TSS and ascorbic acid during the storage period (eight months). The design was used CRD with ten treatment combations. The NA-7 cultivar was purposively selected for the study because it has higher recovery with ease in availability of commerce. Fully developed sound aonla fruits were selected. Small pieces of cashew at 100 gram were mix in aonla jam. Three levels each of tulsi, cardamom and ginger were used as herbal additives. All the herbal treatments were found to be better in respect of TSS and ascorbic acid content over control. Highest mean TSS (69.26%) and ascorbic acid content (102.65%) were observed in T 9 (ginger powder a 150 gram). All the sensory parameters were based on the overall acceptability which was depended on color, texture, flavor and taste was recorded highest (8.33 score) in T 8 (ginger powder at 100 gram), Precisely, on the basis of results obtained it may be concluded that treatment T 8 (ginger powder at 100 gram) can be used in commercialization of aonla herbal jam with granulated particles of cashew preparation. This recipe may also be advocated for safe storage at ambient temperature upto 8 months.
