Awareness and Perception of certified librarians of Nigeria towards the use of robotic technologies in the libraries

The study adopted the social survey technique and the population of the study comprised 452 certi... more The study adopted the social survey technique and the population of the study comprised 452 certified librarians of Nigeria libraries that were certified by the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) on November, 24th, 2021. The librarians who took part in the survey were chosen using a random sampling method. One out of every three librarians being admitted on the day was given the questionnaire. The researcher used Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS version 20.0) application software with simple percentages chosen for easier analysis and interpretation. The findings of this study revealed that certified librarians are averagely aware of the existence of robotic technologies usage for library services and the anxiety of employee retrenchment is the major anxiety, despite they are aware that, the innovative apparatuses will increase global recognition and enhance library services. It shows that certified librarians are faced challenges towards the use of robotic technologies such as potential job loss, inadequate funding and epileptic among others. The study recommended that certified librarians should keep up with modern trends in information dissemination by learning fundamental skills that are technologically compatible among others

A descriptive survey design was adopted. Five objectives and five research questions were formulated to guide the study. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select one thousand four hundred and three (1,403) respondents across the two colleges for the study whereas 84% were retrieved. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency, percentage and means. In carrying out this study three research questions were posed. A social survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised librarians and para-professional staff working in the special libraries. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data using frequency counts, tables and percentages. The findings showed that the libraries face diverse problems in the acquisition of library materials. These include lack of acquisition policy, inadequate funds, high cost of foreign materials, poor quality of locally published materials, poor communication services, poor bibliographic control and poor management of funds. Purpose: The study examined photocopying practice and copyright law in Nigeria libraries. Design/... more Purpose: The study examined photocopying practice and copyright law in Nigeria libraries. Design/Methodology/Approach: A social survey method of research was adopted for the study. Five objectives and five research questions were formulated to guide the study. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select one hundred and fifty seven (157) respondents for the study whereas 91% were retrieved. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistical tools such as, bar chart, percentages and mean. Findings: The outcome of the study revealed that libraries need to play a prominent role in the issue of copyright law. The results also discovered that there is no limit to photocopies being made from textbooks and other libraries materials, more so, user's awareness of copyright law does not influence their photocopying practice. Implication: The paper emphasised that there should be adequate awareness of the issues of copyright law by librarians for effective and efficiency services delivery. Originality/Value: The paper value can be situated in its appropriate recommendations that libraries should derive a better means of effecting copyright law in Nigeria libraries and Ethics should be applied in the use of copyrighted library materials. Furthermore, laws about 'fair use' of peoples works should not be abused in term of photocopying materials in the library and copyright law offenders should face criminal charges among others.

The descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The population for the study comprised 85,526 registered undergraduate student (2018/2019) academic session in the federal and state universities in Southwest Nigeria. The sample for the study was 398. Proportionate sampling techniques were used to draw the sample. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection from the respondents based on a four-point scale rating. The findings revealed high cost of access, power outage, information overload, lack of proper maintenance, funding of library services, among others. Based on the findings, the study recommended provision of alternative sources of funds, constant maintenance of e-resources, and first year students should be introduced to computer training, among others.

A social survey method of research was adopted for the study and the questionnaire as a research instrument was used. A systematic random sampling technique was used to determine respondents in the survey. The result revealed that availability and accessibility of e- resources are yet to be available and accessible to some libraries in Nigeria despite the fact that 56% of the respondents attested that e- resources are very much available and accessible in their libraries. The quantitative and evaluative research design was adopted for this study. The census sampling technique was used in selecting most affected local governments in Borno camps. Simple random technique was used in selecting most affected five local governments out of 20 local government’s utmost affected by insurgency in Borno State, Nigeria. Findings of the study reveal that majority of the postgraduate students in the University of Nigeria Nsukka made use of their mobile phones for research. The descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The census sampling technique was adopted for this study. Four objectives were set for the study and the interview was used to elicit information from respondents. As of the time of collecting data for this study, there were 936 prisoners in the four selected prisons. Findings showed that 95% were male while 5% were female. Findings also reveal that the information needs of prisoners covered health conditions, financial (99%), spiritual and moral (88%), life after prison/ information on legal issues (86%), family/friends (68%), literacy education (65%), skill acquisition (63%), right in prison (42%), prison rules (34%), and others information needs (26%). Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection from the respondents based on a four-point scale rating. The findings revealed high cost of access, power outage, information overload, lack of proper maintenance, funding of library services, among others. Based on the findings, the study recommended provision of alternative sources of funds, constant maintenance of e-resources, and first year students should be introduced to computer training, among others.

A social survey method of research was adopted for the study and the questionnaire as a research instrument was used. A systematic random sampling technique was used to determine respondents in the survey. The result revealed that availability and accessibility of e- resources are yet to be available and accessible to some libraries in Nigeria despite the fact that 56% of the respondents attested that e- resources are very much available and accessible in their libraries. Simple random technique was used in selecting most affected five local governments out of 20 local government’s utmost affected by insurgency in Borno State, Nigeria. Four objectives were set for the study and the interview was used for gathering data from respondents. The descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The census sampling technique was adopted for this study. Four objectives were set for the study and the interview was used to elicit information from respondents. As of the time of collecting data for this study, there were 936 prisoners in the four selected prisons. Findings showed that 95% were male while 5% were female. Findings also reveal that the information needs of prisoners covered health conditions, financial (99%), spiritual and moral (88%), life after prison/ information on legal issues (86%), family/friends (68%), literacy education (65%), skill acquisition (63%), right in prison (42%), prison rules (34%), and others information needs (26%).
