It was tested in a clinical study in which 100 subjects were recruited for a period of one month. Nasal scraping was used for collecting samples and after the application of the May-Grünwald Giemsa standard technique, glass slides were analysed by using optical microscope with a 1000x oil immersion. A control group constituted of ten people was recruited as control and this group was administered with physiological solution (saline solution). The comparison of results obtained before and after the application of nasal spray showed a total reduction of eosinophils granulocytes and mast cells; clinical data were confirmed by improvement of clinical pictures of patients. The lemon-based nasal spray was a good alternative to conventional medicine for the treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic and vasomotor rhinopathy.

Viral Spanish in uenza has been reported that h could have the similar in ammatory mechanism that we can observe in COVID-19 patients 16). We tested this theory on a 55-year-old male patient, Sars-COV-2 positive. Case presentation: We treated our patient using clinical data and therapeutic approaches from a team of Chinese researchers, established during the beginning of the epidemic in December 2019. The new member of the human coronavirus, o cially called SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) is a new RNA virus strain that has not been previously identi ed in humans (1). This patient showed a Sars Cov-2 infection and was treated early with glucocorticoids. The patient immediately showed a regression of fever and an improvement of symptoms. Conclusions: We hypothesize that the initial stages of the infection can be treated with glucocorticoid therapy.

Polyps arise from chronic inflammation due to asthma, recurrent infections, allergies, drug sensitivity or immune disorders. They can obstruct the nasal cavities and thus cause respiratory problems, a reduction in the sense of smell and susceptibility to infections. Furthermore, nasal polyps can recur. Hence the importance of using valid diagnostic methods. In this work, the diagnostic investigation carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nasal cytology led, for the first time, to the identification of a mycoplasma superinfection on nasal polyposis.

The lemon pulp extract was obtained using an innovative solid -liquid extraction technolog y using a Naviglio Extractor or a Rapid SolidLiquid Dynamic Extractor (RSLDE) that extracts vegetable matrices from different species by using different types of solvents. Due to the pressurising and depressurising of this technique and using water as a s olvent,

Relieving laryngopharingeral reflux (RELIEF) survey in otolaryngology - the viewpoint of the otorhinolaryngologist

This reflux involves respiratory structures other than, or in addition to, the oesophagus. A new medical device for the treatment of gastric reflux, including LPR, has been launched in Italy: Marial®. Therefore, the aim of the present survey was to analyse the prescriptive behaviour both considering the past or current treatments and clinical features during a specialist routine visit. The current survey was conducted in 86 Otorhinolaryngological centers, distributed in all of Italy. Globally, 4.418 subjects [47% males and 53% females, 50.1 (14.5) years-of-age] were visited. The visits included laryngoscopy, Reflux Finding Score (RFS) and Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) questionnaires. The total RSI median score was 15 (12-19) and the total median RFS value was 10 (8-12). Interestingly, a significant change in the new drug prescription was observed (p<0.0001): over two-third of patients (67%) ...

The Reflux Finding Score (RFS) assesses the laryngeal signs through laryngoscopy. The Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) scores the LPR symptoms. The objective of this real-world study was to compare RFS with RSI in a cohort of Italian LPR patients. Globally, 3932 patients with LPR were evaluated and RFS and RSI were assessed in all subjects. A moderate correlation was found between RSI and RFS (r=0.484, p<0.0001). In conclusion, the RSI and RFS can easily be included in the LPR work-up as objective and consistent parameters, with low cost and high practicality. Based on these clinical outcomes, the specialist can easily use these tests in clinical practice.

It is responsible for pathologies inherent in the CNS, the cornea , the skin, especially in immunocompromised subjects. An adult subject of 70 years old, suffering from acute pharyngitis, was subjected to a cytological sampling of the pharyngeal mucosa by means of the modified Ayre spatula type A from Armone Caruso, to perform either a coloring method according to the May-Grunwald-Giemsa, and observed under the microscope optical with oil immersion at 100 x of fifty fields, that a preparation for observation under the SEM.(Scanning Electron Microscope,). In both observations it was highlighted in the form of trophozoite some rare Acanthamoeba. The subject was observed without that have appeared due to protozoan diseases: in practice it was a casual observation. The clinical case, described occasionally, it shows how the distribution in the environment of these amoebae is very extensive and mainly related to water and become of interest about the health, for the human use of the latter for purposes such as hygiene care, bathing, medical and health applications. The objective of this paper is to provide a starting point to discuss the potential pathogenicity associated with the presence of Acanthamoeba in the water ecosystems. This is for raise the awareness the scientific community and promote environmental control initiatives of this pathogen in both outdoor and indoor environments.

It is obtained by deacetylating chitin and has many versatile uses because of its solubility in weak acids; it can be used to produce biodegradable adhesive films, fibers of different thicknesses obtained by means of electrospinning, functional hydrogels, nanoemulsions and nanoparticles for functions such as the packaging of active substances for controlled release administration, and other derivatives with great potential, in addition to its use in mineral complexing. The range of possible applications is very broad, from food to the environment, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, medical products, textiles, and cosmetics, and it is used not only for its chemical and physical characteristics but also for its antimicrobial, antibacterial, wound-healing, lipid-lowering, anti-inflammatory, antiatherosclerosis, and anticancer properties. Its nontoxicity allows chitosan to be used long term as a soluble dietary fiber to improve digestion and aid the development of intestinal microflora with significant benefits to the health of the organism.

Hydrogen peroxide is produced physiologically by oral bacteria and plays a significant role in the balance of oral microecology since it is an important antimicrobial agent. In the epithelial cells, the enzyme superoxide dismutase catalyzes a reaction leading from hydrogen peroxide to the ion superoxide. The induced oxidative stress stimulates a local innate response via activation of the toll-like receptors and the NF-κB. Those kinds of reactions are also activated by viral infections. Virus-induced oxidative stress plays an important role in the regulation of the host immune system and the specific oxidant-sensitive pathway is one of the effective strategies against viral infections. Therefore, nose/mouth/throat washing with hydrogen peroxide may enhance those local innate responses to viral infections and help protect against the current coronavirus pandemic. We strongly encourage the rapid development of randomized controlled trials in both SARS-CoV-2 positive and negative subjects to test the preliminary findings from the in-vitro and in-vivo observational studies that we identified.

Adverse health effects due to occupational exposures are a global public health concern and have been studied for many years. Ceramic workers are occupationally exposed to a wide range of toxic substances as they manage clay (silico-aluminous feldspar mixed with sodium, potassium salts and iron oxide). The objective of this study was to assess the presence of any in ammation or alteration of the nasal mucosa of ceramic workers by nasal cytology. Materials and methods. Ceramic workers from Caltagirone (Italy) were enrolled. Nasal symptoms, atopy, health habits and workplace features were assessed by a special questionnaire, and nasal mucosa health was evaluated by nasal cytology. Results. The cytological study of the nasal mucosa showed the constant presence of abundant, thick and lamentous mucus, as well as a reorganization of the nasal cellularity with a prevalence of muciparous metaplasia and almost total absence of hair cells, for almost all of the subjects. Conclusions. A signi cant proportion of ceramic workers showed chronic in ammatory rhinitis on nasal cytology, with a remodelling of the nasal mucosa and thick mucus. Nasal cytology may be a helpful tool for the screening of any pathology of the upper airways.
