Ditemukan tujuh jenis hiu dengan total produksi mencapai 335.261 ton.Hiu selendang biru (Prionace glauca) mendominasi hasil tangkapan dengan produksi hampir 300 ton atau sekitar 86,4%. Purse seine was introduced at 1972 in Bali Strait and since then Bali sardine fish (Sardinella le... more Purse seine was introduced at 1972 in Bali Strait and since then Bali sardine fish (Sardinella lemuru) are the most widely exploited by fishermen in these waters. One of the largest landing site of Bali Strait purse seiner is in Muncar, East Java. This study aims to estimate population parameters of Bali Strait oil sardine that were caught by purse seine in Muncar. Data were collected from August 2010 to December 2011, and were analyzed using FISAT II (version 1.1.3). The results showed growth parameters were L∞ = 20.75 cmFL; K=1.20 year-1 and t0=0.1456 year. The results of Z=6.39 year-1; M=1.78 year-1; F=4.61 year-1; and E=0.65. The exploitation rate in this study was greater than the optimum exploitation (Eopt), indicating an overfishing had occurred. The recruitment pattern of Bali sardine had two peaks a year, in February and July, where the recruitment in July was greater than February.

The aim of this study is to determine the spatial and temporal distribution of YFT in the Eastern Indian Ocean. Scientific observers on commercial tuna longline conducted data collection, mainly based in Benoa, Palabuhan Ratu and Bungus from August 2005 to November 2013. Total of 2,250 YFT were caught and as many as 2,227 of them measured in length. Distribution of YFT caught by Indonesia tuna longline scattered from 0-34°S and 76-133°E where hook rates around Mentawai Islands and along Eastern Java to West Nusa Tenggara tend to be high (> 0.12 fish/100 hooks). A total of 1.282 goldstripe sardinella were measured in total length (TL), fork length (FL), and standard length (SL)) and weighed during the study. The aims of this research were to provide length frequency distribution and population parameters of kawakawa caught by purse seine in the Indian Ocean. The data is the time series data from the research before. Data collection was conducted during a period of July 2012 to December 2013. The result showed that from 4,225 fish were collected with ranged from 23.5 – 61.5 cm, the Von Bertalanffy growth function estimates were L∞ = 64.58 cm, K = 1 year -1 and t0 = -0.12872 years. The annual instantaneous rate of total mortality (Z) was 6.47 year -1 , the natural mortality (M) was 1.44 year -1 and the fishing mortality (F) was 5.03 year -1 . The exploitation rate (E = 0.78) is almost same with the predicted value (Emax = 0.799) indicating that Euthynnus affinis was fully exploited in the Indian Ocean.

Although the noticeable decline mainly occurred in the western part of the Indian Ocean, uncertainty lingers on how this phenomenon will affect the opposite leg. The study aimed to investigate the dynamics of stock through monitoring several indicators by utilizing logbooks, scientific port sampling, and observer data available. The result showed that both relative abundance and estimated catch trend are declining in recent years, a sign that the negative global inclination also influences Indonesian tuna longline fisheries. Further studies are needed to understand whether this phenomenon also impacts other gears. Hence, mitigation on conserving the resource by reducing the catch and strengthening the data collection should be the priority to maintain the livelihood and welfare of many coastal communities.

The yellowfin tuna reproductive biology in the eastern Indian Ocean was studied by analyzing some essential characteristics: size at maturity, the spawning season, frequency of spawning, egg diameter, and batch fecundity. From 2018 to 2020, 206 female yellowfin tuna were sampled (23-170 cmFL). They were using histological and morphological analysis, resulting in the size at maturity (Lm50) of yellowfin tuna being 92.73 cmFL. The spawning season of yellowfin tuna occurred between September and May, spawning every 1.55 days within the spawning period. The oocytes size ranged between 27.1 – 570.5 μm, and the mean size of oocytes (mean ± standard deviation) was 189.5±129.4 μm. In reality, there are many by-catch species, including blue sharks. This study aims to provide integrated information on blue shark species as by-catch species in Indonesian industrial tuna longline fisheries, including nominal and standardized CPUE and biomass of blue shark exploited by Indonesian longliners in the eastern Indian Ocean. This research is expected to become a reference point in shark management in the Indian Ocean. The scientific observer collected 2951 set-by-set longline fishing data based on Research Institute For Tuna Fisheries (RITF) from January 2006 to December 2018, on which the present analysis was made. The result indicated that there were eighteen shark species caught by Indonesian longliner were dominated by a blue shark (Prionace glauca) (60%) followed by crocodile shark (Pseudcarcharias kamoharai) (23.84%), bigeye thresher shark (Alopias superciliosus) (3%) and other species (<3%). Nominal CPUE was fluctuating and needed to be standardized in GLM analysis. The results of CPUE standardization can then be used as a reference in calculating the biomass blue sharks exploited by Indonesian Longliners. By considering several aspects, including the average of hook/set/fleet, an average of size (length and weight), the total number of set/year, reported the number of vessels, it is obtained that the estimated catch of blue sharks ranges from 366.3-2,616 tons per year with an average of about 1,282 tons.

Ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758) yang tersebar luas di Samudra Hindia selatan Ja... more Ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758) yang tersebar luas di Samudra Hindia selatan Jawa, Bali dan Nusa Tenggara telah dieksploitasi secara terus menerus dengan berbagai alat tangkap. Pengelolaannya saat ini belum rasional karena masih diasumsikan sebagai unit stok tunggal tanpa adanya bukti ilmiah sehingga rentan mengalami lebih tangkap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengindentifikasi struktur stok ikan cakalang dengan teknik analisis bentuk otolith. Sampel otolith (sagittae) dikumpulkan pada bulan April, Agustus, dan September tahun 2016 di 4 lokasi, yaitu: Binuangeun, Sadeng, Prigi, dan Labuhan Lombok. Rekonstruksi bentuk otolith dilakukan dengan pendekatan outline analysis menggunakan teknik transformasi discrete wavelet. Uji statistik multivariate dengan kluster analisis menggunakan canonical analysis of principal (CAP) dan uji ANOVA-like permutation juga diterapkan untuk menentukan signifikansi antar populasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa analisis bentuk otolith dapat digunakan sebagai penanda yang akurat untuk mengidentifikasi struktur stok. Bentuk otolith ikan cakalang bervariasi khususnya pada bagian rostrum, namun tidak berbeda nyata antar populasi (p>0,001). Hal tersebut berarti struktur stok ikan cakalang di Samudra Hindia (WPP NRI 573) terdiri dari 1 populasi yang bergerak mengikuti pola perubahan lingkungan perairan di sepanjang Samudra Hindia.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan panjang-bobot dan faktor kondisi tuna sirip kuning untuk melengkapi informasi biologi yang diharapkan dapat mendukung pengelolaan perikanan tuna sirip kuning secara bertanggung jawab. Sampel tuna sirip kuning diperoleh dari Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara Prigi, Jawa Timur, pada bulan Januari hingga Desember 2018. The aim of this study is to determine the spatial and temporal distribution of YFT in the Eastern Indian Ocean. Scientific observers on commercial tuna longline conducted data collection, mainly based in Benoa, Palabuhan Ratu and Bungus from August 2005 to November 2013. Total of 2,250 YFT were caught and as many as 2,227 of them measured in length. Distribution of YFT caught by Indonesia tuna longline scattered from 0-34°S and 76-133°E where hook rates around Mentawai Islands and along Eastern Java to West Nusa Tenggara tend to be high (> 0.12 fish/100 hooks). The aims of this study were to reveal the morphoregression characteristics and the first size of maturity for Sardinella gibbosa in Bali Strait waters. A total of 1.282 goldstripe sardinella were measured in total length (TL), fork length (FL), and standard length (SL)) and weighed during the study. Kawakawa is an Indo-West Pacific species, found in warm waters including oceanic islands and arch... more Kawakawa is an Indo-West Pacific species, found in warm waters including oceanic islands and archipelagos. The aims of this research were to provide length frequency distribution and population parameters of kawakawa caught by purse seine in the Indian Ocean. The data is the time series data from the research before. Data collection was conducted during a period of July 2012 to December 2013. The result showed that from 4,225 fish were collected with ranged from 23.5 – 61.5 cm, the Von Bertalanffy growth function estimates were L∞ = 64.58 cm, K = 1 year -1 and t0 = -0.12872 years. The annual instantaneous rate of total mortality (Z) was 6.47 year -1 , the natural mortality (M) was 1.44 year -1 and the fishing mortality (F) was 5.03 year -1 . The exploitation rate (E = 0.78) is almost same with the predicted value (Emax = 0.799) indicating that Euthynnus affinis was fully exploited in the Indian Ocean.

Although the noticeable decline mainly occurred in the western part of the Indian Ocean, uncertainty lingers on how this phenomenon will affect the opposite leg. The study aimed to investigate the dynamics of stock through monitoring several indicators by utilizing logbooks, scientific port sampling, and observer data available. The result showed that both relative abundance and estimated catch trend are declining in recent years, a sign that the negative global inclination also influences Indonesian tuna longline fisheries. Further studies are needed to understand whether this phenomenon also impacts other gears. Hence, mitigation on conserving the resource by reducing the catch and strengthening the data collection should be the priority to maintain the livelihood and welfare of many coastal communities.

The yellowfin tuna reproductive biology in the eastern Indian Ocean was studied by analyzing some essential characteristics: size at maturity, the spawning season, frequency of spawning, egg diameter, and batch fecundity. From 2018 to 2020, 206 female yellowfin tuna were sampled (23-170 cmFL). They were using histological and morphological analysis, resulting in the size at maturity (Lm50) of yellowfin tuna being 92.73 cmFL. The spawning season of yellowfin tuna occurred between September and May, spawning every 1.55 days within the spawning period. The oocytes size ranged between 27.1 – 570.5 μm, and the mean size of oocytes (mean ± standard deviation) was 189.5±129.4 μm. In reality, there are many by-catch species, including blue sharks. This study aims to provide integrated information on blue shark species as by-catch species in Indonesian industrial tuna longline fisheries, including nominal and standardized CPUE and biomass of blue shark exploited by Indonesian longliners in the eastern Indian Ocean. This research is expected to become a reference point in shark management in the Indian Ocean. The scientific observer collected 2951 set-by-set longline fishing data based on Research Institute For Tuna Fisheries (RITF) from January 2006 to December 2018, on which the present analysis was made. The result indicated that there were eighteen shark species caught by Indonesian longliner were dominated by a blue shark (Prionace glauca) (60%) followed by crocodile shark (Pseudcarcharias kamoharai) (23.84%), bigeye thresher shark (Alopias superciliosus) (3%) and other species (<3%). Nominal CPUE was fluctuating and needed to be standardized in GLM analysis. The results of CPUE standardization can then be used as a reference in calculating the biomass blue sharks exploited by Indonesian Longliners. By considering several aspects, including the average of hook/set/fleet, an average of size (length and weight), the total number of set/year, reported the number of vessels, it is obtained that the estimated catch of blue sharks ranges from 366.3-2,616 tons per year with an average of about 1,282 tons.

Ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758) yang tersebar luas di Samudra Hindia selatan Ja... more Ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis Linnaeus, 1758) yang tersebar luas di Samudra Hindia selatan Jawa, Bali dan Nusa Tenggara telah dieksploitasi secara terus menerus dengan berbagai alat tangkap. Pengelolaannya saat ini belum rasional karena masih diasumsikan sebagai unit stok tunggal tanpa adanya bukti ilmiah sehingga rentan mengalami lebih tangkap. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengindentifikasi struktur stok ikan cakalang dengan teknik analisis bentuk otolith. Sampel otolith (sagittae) dikumpulkan pada bulan April, Agustus, dan September tahun 2016 di 4 lokasi, yaitu: Binuangeun, Sadeng, Prigi, dan Labuhan Lombok. Rekonstruksi bentuk otolith dilakukan dengan pendekatan outline analysis menggunakan teknik transformasi discrete wavelet. Uji statistik multivariate dengan kluster analisis menggunakan canonical analysis of principal (CAP) dan uji ANOVA-like permutation juga diterapkan untuk menentukan signifikansi antar populasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa analisis bentuk otolith dapat digunakan sebagai penanda yang akurat untuk mengidentifikasi struktur stok. Bentuk otolith ikan cakalang bervariasi khususnya pada bagian rostrum, namun tidak berbeda nyata antar populasi (p>0,001). Hal tersebut berarti struktur stok ikan cakalang di Samudra Hindia (WPP NRI 573) terdiri dari 1 populasi yang bergerak mengikuti pola perubahan lingkungan perairan di sepanjang Samudra Hindia.

This study aims to examine growth patterns and factor conditions of yellowfin tuna in the Eastern Indian Ocean. The number of fish samples measured in length and weight is 7,550 with length range from 76-176 cm (average: 129.03 cm) and mode at 150 cm. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh fase bulan terhadap waktu mulai tebar pancing dan laju tangkap madidihang pada armada rawai tuna. Pengumpulan data dilakukan oleh pemantau ilmiah pada armada rawai tuna yang sebagian besar berbasis di Pelabuhan Benoa, Bali mulai Agustus 2005 hingga Juni 2014. Daerah penangkapan ikan dari armada rawai tuna yang diambil datanya berada di lokasi (lintang dan bujur) 9°-16° LS hingga 109°-120° BT.
