A utilização desta ferramenta permite a elaboração de um plano de ação proporcionando qualidade na gestão de serviços em bibliotecas públicas, evidenciando ainda o modelo das Bibliotecas Parque, tendo a Biblioteca Parque da Rocinha como laboratório deste estudo. Enfatizar que a biblioteca pública é uma instituição aberta, dinâmica, que através de seus serviços, atividades, funções, contribuem para o desenvolvimento educacional, cultural e social do individuo.

This paper presents an application of an information technology (IT) evaluation method in three r... more This paper presents an application of an information technology (IT) evaluation method in three ranches in the American (United States) cattle chain. This method was built on some information systems (IS), IT, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) evaluation models, according to its focus (RFID technical aspects). Some IT is used to trace products from their source until their destination. Traceability systems are more general than identification systems, which are the central focus, RFID being the paradigm example. Although some ranchers have used RFID tags to help monitor animal health and quality, they frequently supplement RFID with plastic ear tags to reduce cost. Taking a qualitative approach, the results of this study are derived from case studies with interviews.

The qualitative approach and the case study method were adopted in this research. The case studies were carried out in the United States, and were performed between December 2008 and March 2009. The results indicated some RFID advantages and disadvantages, and a lack of an ICT evaluation (its costs and benefits) by some of these companies. As a consequence, they could undervalue or overvalue IT assets by top executives.

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an identification technology that traces products from their origin to their destination. This work includes literature review on evaluation models in technology, information technology, information systems, and RFID. The field research described in this paper was carried out at four Brazilian slaughterhouses. Some methods used were qualitative approach, case study, and interviews to show results. Although RFID has some advantages in traceability systems, it has been used by these companies in other activities such as warehousing and stocking. Because of this, in the Brazilian cattle chain barcode has been used to trace products.

A área de compras, recentemente, recebeu um grande avanço em termos de pesquisa, dentro do mundo ... more A área de compras, recentemente, recebeu um grande avanço em termos de pesquisa, dentro do mundo acadêmico, pois o número de publicações referente ao tema aumentou significativamente. No contexto empresarial, "compras" deixou de ter apenas uma motivação operacional, assumindo agora uma importância estratégica. Como conseqüência, muitas empresas vêm desenvolvendo a sua área de compras. O objetivo desse artigo é o de analisar o processo atual de compras de uma empresa da indústria de Petróleo para itens não estratégicos. Nesse sentido, foram aplicados 18 questionários em entrevistas estruturadas com funcionários envolvidos com o processo de compras da empresa, número que englobou 50% do total de funcionários do processo de compras. Como resultado, verificou-se uma aderência entre o planejamento desse processo na empresa com a literatura acadêmica. Porém, a execução e a operação do que foi planejado necessita de melhorias, pois está, em alguns aspectos, atuando sob antigos paradigmas. Nesse sentido, o presente artigo contribui com propostas de melhorias.

Collection was developed using the electronic databases PUBMED, SCIELO, LILACS and WEB OF SCIENCE. Search on the online databases was conducted using the following terms as MeSH: Patient safety, anticoagulants and orthopedics. The inclusion criteria were to opt for publications with complete texts using English, Portuguese and Spanish languages and dated on the last 5 years. After reading, selecting and excluding, 48 scientific productions were obtained. The material selected through the electronic databases was organized through direct observation and originated recovery of data about the subject and its discussion. It is expected that the results of this study stimulate initiatives by healthcare professionals, searching to promote the healthcare assistance quality and orthopedics patient safety binomial.

This study addresses the adverse reactions associated with the use of anticoagulants occurring in... more This study addresses the adverse reactions associated with the use of anticoagulants occurring in an orthopedic hospital in Rio de Janeiro. This is an observational descriptive series of case studies. The data from 20 adult patients were analyzed who have adverse drug reaction (ADR) in the year 2012. The prevalence of adverse reactions was 10%. Regarding the causality of ADR and the use of anticoagulants, 50% were considered possible, regarding the severity, 62.16% were classified as moderate and, in terms of predictability, 100% could have been avoided. It is believed that health professionals are not trained to detect ADRs and thereby minimize risks/damages to patients. Healthcare institutions must invest in management strategies for quality of healthcare and patient safety as a way of minimizing inherent risks in drug therapy, therefore, decreasing expenses and hospital providing a safer and more economical hospital practice.
The principal objectives of this paper are to develop a conceptual and theoretical framework to e... more The principal objectives of this paper are to develop a conceptual and theoretical framework to evaluate the cost of protectionism in the Brazilian automobile industry, and present a scheme to compare different studies. A standard partial equilibrium model was developed, and applied to the sub-compact vehicle segment of the Brazilian automobile industry. Two important aspects were analyzed: (1) economic indicators, and (2) supply and demand curves. Four economic indicators were used: (1) domestic consumption, (2) domestic production, (3) domestic prices, and (4) world prices. A supply and demand sketch was generated to determine price elasticity, using values obtained from a multiple regression model. The subcompact vehicle segment was chosen because it represents more than 70% of the Brazilian domestic market. 2000 was chosen as the year to examine because this was when an import tariff of 35% was imposed on the automobile industry. This trade barrier provided an interesting case study for the cost of protectionism model. The paper concludes that the model clearly demonstrates protectionist polices' adverse effects on the Brazilian economy, which experienced a welfare loss borne by consumers, producers and the government.

Iran is the biggest pistachio producer in the world. Nowadays, the supply chain of this nut is encountering some supply problems. The first problem is that some major consumer countries have banned the import of pistachios because of the high level of “Aflatoxin” toxicity. Aflatoxin is a toxin which can be produced by fungi in pistachios under some special circumstances. The second issue is the increasingly high costs of producing pistachios. This paper analyzes the pistachio‟s supply chain and processing methods utilized in Iran. As one of the possible solutions for decreasing processing costs is mechanization, the level of mechanization in processing pistachios in Iran will be studied. Moreover, the supply chain stages that affect the level of Aflatoxin will be identified.

RFID é uma TI que tem sido usada em alguns países para rastrear carne bovina. Na cadeia de carne bovina brasileira os frigoríficos não a usam, mas sim o código de barras. Neste artigo, dois casos em frigoríficos foram usados para demonstrar suas avaliações obre TIs no sistema de rastreabilidade em suas cadeias de suprimentos. O custo da RFID e as vantagens do código de barras não permitem que estas empresas troquem suas TIs. Palavras-Chaves: Avaliação, tecnologia de informação, cadeia de suprimentos e carne bovina.

The global markets, mainly the European and Chinese markets, demand traceability to control quality and food safety. For operations, as production and processing, RFID has been used in some countries. This research uses a qualitative method based on documents, scientific papers, and secondary data from those countries. Nowadays, another problem appears: the privacy of the consumer. This issue represents a big problem to the companies and countries that use RFID, which have to do some laws and discuss a lot about this issue and evaluate its costs and benefits.
